  1. Sorry to revive this thread, but has anyone fish Ivins Reservoir? BTW, http://www.krakenbass.com/ has been invaluable for me. He goes all around Utah and slays bass.
  2. Hey all, quick question about rods for you guys. This morning I snapped my third graphite rod of the season. Each time it is has been user error, but my college budget can't handle a new $75-100 rod every four or five months. I'm thinking about going back to fiberglass and thusly don't want to spend $75-100 that I'd spend on a graphite. I'm just wondering if any of you have experience with the Ugly Stick GX2 rods? I know it's probably looked down on as a cheap, starter rod, but I'm hard on my stuff, so I want something cheap.
  3. Sounds like there's enough for me to get in line behind Evan! I can carry all of my tackle at once, so it's not a problem.
  4. I'm hoping to crush the bass on spinnerbaits, topwater frogs/poppers at Sand Hollow this weekend! One more day of work and college classes, then I'm gone!
  5. I carry a flashlight every day for my job (Streamlight 2AAA). It's become such a routine that I have it, my Leatherman, and a folding knife on me every day, even when fishing. The cylindrical shape of the flashlight makes it great to pull snags out!
  6. I can't quite visualize how this is supposed to work?
  7. I'm headed down to Sand Hollow to fish this coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  8. So if I'm fishing dawn/dusk and trying to hit the bass that are cruising the shallows, should I use a bit that can cover water quickly? Something like a spinnerbait or crankbait?
  9. I've only been using braid for a few days, but I was out fishing yesterday and the only fish I hooked into was straight braid. I had a FC leader tied on, but I had to cut my line after getting stuck. My FC spool was empty so I had to make do with just the braid. Didn't seem to affect much.
  10. I can't remember who I was watching on Youtube that said that bank fishermen have a better chance to get into fish if they move a lot. They will catch the "eager" fish right off the bat, then you know there are fish there and can break down the surrounding area?
  11. You're probably right about me switching too fast. I'm going to go down there again on Sunday, so I will take just the shaky head with a Chigger Craw and Pop-R. Both fish I've caught so far have been on a shaky head rig that I've slowly dragged along the bottom. At the lake I fished this morning, there is a rocky bottom (rocks from the size of baseballs up to the size of a 5 gallon bucket). I hooked into the one bass while doing the same dragging along the bottom. The thing is, the shaky head rig hits the sides of the rocks and it feels like a bite. The only reason I knew I had a bass on was because my line started to swim away.
  12. Once, I think. Just in the spring?
  13. Hey guys, got a quick question for ya'll. I started bass fishing about a month ago. I wasn't having much luck at all until a co-worker found out that I was trying to bass fish; turns out he is an avid bass fisherman himself. He took me out on Monday and I caught my very first bass (pictured in my profile pic). I went to the same area alone on Tuesday and got skunked. I wasn't able to get out Wednesday (yesterday) but I did make it out to a different lake this morning. It is one of my co-worker's favorite lakes and he suggested an area and some different rigs to use. I fished for two and half hours without a single bite. I threw everything I've got in my arsenal. Wacky rig, drop shot, Texas rig, weightless Texas, lipless crank, frog, Pop-R, waking crank, and a jig. I used tubes, senkos, straight tailed worms, ribbon tailed worms, etc. I finally got hooked up on one using a Chigger Craw rigged on a shaky head. The lake has some crawdads, but they are few and far in between. I figured that a craw would be a rare delicacy and it seemed to work. Unfortunately, the bass jumped and shook my hook out. I'm used to catfishing with circle hooks. You don't have to set the hook, just start reeling. Anyway, I threw the Chigger Craw for another thirty minutes or so without anything further excitement and then headed home. My question is, when do you decide to try a different presentation/rig or when do you move to a different spot? I'm a bank fisherman, so I don't have a ton of options as far as zooming around in a boat using a fish finder to read the bottom structure. Overall, I fished about 500 yards of shoreline this morning. I hooked up on that bass on my way back to my car, so it was a place I'd thrown other presentations that morning. So, when do you decide to change up the rig and when do you decide to find a different place entirely?
  14. Hmmm, I'm in college. I have class every morning, but none before 10. I work at night, but get off by 9 every night. Yup, I could fish every day if my gas budget would allow it. This free time won't last long though.
  15. Awesome! Figuring out a new technique is the best!
  16. I've heard the Omens are killer. I picked up a Fenwick Silverhawk last night. It is usually $100, but I got it on sale for $59.99 before tax. Won't be able to fish it until this weekend, but just looking it over, the construction looks way nicer than the other rods I've had in the same $75-125 price range.
  17. Nope, I didn't make it. This is the spirit-me.
  18. I've done more hours of research than I can count on my fingers in the last couple days on my first baitcaster. From what I gathered: In the $50 price range - Academy H2O Mettle In the $100 price range - Lots of good options, but the BPS Pro Qualifier gets an overwhelming amount of suggestions and good reviews In the $100+ price range - I didn't do any research in this range since it was out of my budget. But I did read a lot of suggestions towards the Abu Garcia Revo. In the end, I went with a Shimano Citica from a member here on the Flea Market.
  19. Thanks for the offer! I'm going to hit up Deer Creek tomorrow and Jordanelle this weekend.
  20. That's awesome! Chache Valley is a stunning place. I hear there is some good bass fishing in Idaho. Are there any good places that far north in Utah? I haven't heard of any bass fishing being done that far north in Utah. That bass hit my shaky rig about three feet from the end of my pole. Suprised the snot outta me. It peeled some drag too. I'm hooked!
  21. I just got back from fishing Salem Pond in central Utah. One of my co-workers got me into bass fishing about a month ago so I don't know jack ... Anyway, I went down there this morning and putzed around for a little bit. Ended up catching my first bass. Pulled him out with a shaky head rig.
  22. Hey, I see that you are in Utah. Where where you at? I was down at Salem Pond this morning and caught my first bass, so I guess it is my PB too! Crappy picture, but I was shaking from the adrenaline!
