  1. I use them, but only with certain baits or until I find the color they like that hr lol. I've talked to a cpl pros about them, and one example has stuck with me. While fishing a lipless in a school of fish he would catch a cpl and the fish would shut down, he would throw on another color and first cast with a new color he was hooked up. He repeated this with 3 colors and then went from a 1/2oz bait to a 1/4oz. It enabled him to catch many more fish, if he would of stopped to retie every time the school would of most likely calmed down too much and not continued to bite the other baits. The whole changing colors is a great way to keep em biting, works great w hardbaits and plastics.
  2. U just won the quote of the day with that one man, lmao! I can out fish your Banjo Minnow 600 to 1 with my Helicopter Lure! Yeah Buddy lol
  3. Have u tried the #2 sz hook? I'm fishing 5" Robos and Zoom Finesse worms. Thanks for the info Tom. I do tie my Palomar exactly how you explained. I have the Owner 5133 in 1/0, and when I rig the worm straight and skin hook it it's so tight the worm that is that it takes a lot of pressure to push the worm down and expose the hook? Are the Iovino worms good for LM also as that's all I fish for? But we have tons of Gizzard and Threadfin shad in Fork. Any suggestions on which colors would match those shad best? I'm color blind so it's not easy matching the hatch lol.
  4. I use the Aaron Martens gammy hook it's a traditional dropshot hook. So unfortunately I can't use them to T-rig but that's ok lol. All part of learning. I love those hooks they r insanely sharp, I always stick myself when pulling my Palomar knot tight lol. And the hook doesn't have that beak to it, it's straight which makes nose hooking baits like Aaron dose really nice as its parallel with the bait and gives it great action. Far more than the baits the guys r T-rigging. I don't care for the Palomar knot though as I have problems keeping the hook in line w the line. Anyone using a different knot than the Palomar? Also was considering trying these new Trapper dropshot hooks in a sz 2 or 4. And the Skinny Bear dropshot hooks have one of the highest ratings on TW. We use to use #18 hooks for 8lb Steelhead so not sure why I was afraid to go smaller than the 2/0 for bass but anxious to try the new sz in this Thursday's tourney.
  5. The guys that are successful in our club all fish sz 1 and 2 EWG style hooks. Most the gammy g-lock hook. And of course Texas rig their 5" worms.
  6. I fish a 5" Roboworm lol. So the hook being too big might be what's causing me to lose fish? And I nose hook the worm like Aaron Marten. Should I got to a sz 1 or 2? Thanks man! Yes I'm using a 2/0 sz. I have the Owner hooks you mentioned as I'm a big Owner fan. I'm only fishing a 5" Roboworm and I do nose hook it like Aaron Marten. I think I feel I need a hook that sz too hook the fish in the corner or outside of its mouth. And need the hook gap that wide to work, where I guess you hook them inside the mouth yes?
  7. Any thoughts of way I may have lost 8 or more fish?
  8. Yes believe it or not I just recently started dropshot fishing. It has placed me in the money in my last 3 club tournaments as a co-angler. But I'm going through the evolution of hooks lol. Now every angler in our club that fishes a dropshot uses an EWG style hook on Fork and of course Texas rigs their bait. I on the other hand use a traditional dropshot hook and nose hook my worms as I feel I get more action out of it. I also don't seem to get snagged anymore then they do. I'm currently using a 2/0 Aaron Martens gammy dropshot hook. Now yesterday after my 5th fish I lost about 8 or 9 fish in a row. At that point my leader was too short so I picked up my NRX 852 casting rod loaded with 8lb Sunline line and started catching them again. I actually loved that rod combined with a Aldebaran 51HG. So the only thought as to why I started losing fish is that if I remember correctly is that i got snagged and maybe messed up the hook? I did check the hook and it was still sticky sharp and did not seem to be rolled over or anything. I also can't understand how a hook that sharp with that much pressure being applied could lose fish. I reel set the fish and keep as much pressure as I can on that loaded up 822S-DSR spinning rod that I feel I can without breaking 6lb line. I did land 2 or 3 fish before losing them in deep water 20 to 26ft but it was in that water depth that all these fish were lost. I used the same hook on the 852 but was also able to really put it to them with the 8lb line. If my leader would of still been long enough on the 822 I would of put a new hook on and would now no the answer to my question. I also used that same hook on my casting rod. The line on my 822 is 16lb Sunline TX1 to a 6 or 7ft Tatsu 6lb leader. So does anyone have any thoughts on this? Do any of you also use that hook and if so have you had any similar problems with it? And out of curiosity what hook are you using? Thanks
  9. Love it, will be my next reel when LH becomes available. Will also be my first Daiwa.
  10. First thing I would do is get on the Internet and research the lakes your going to be fishing. Read the current fishing reports to get an idea of what stage the fish are in the color and temp of water ect. Obviously the water info u will research the days before fishing. But find out what lures and lure colors are the dominant ones on the lakes. As I co-angler I only take 5 to 6 rods. I use to take more and it's just too much, for me anyway. Besides a spinning rod for a dropshot take casting rods that can double in techniques. I'm fishing in a tournament today actually and I'm taking 6 rods although I don't like taking that many. 1 Spinning rod for my dropshot. 1 MH-MF CBR for chatterbaits. And 4 casting rods 1 M-F for Tx rigs or Shakyheads 1 M-F for wacky rig 1 MH-XF for weightless Senkos 1 MH-F for a Splitshot rigs. The CBR will have a 6.4 reel and the other will be 7.1 and 8. something gear ratios. I could go on and on but need to get my stuff ready as I'm leaving in 2.5 hrs hope this helps.
  11. Yes water temp plays a huge roll in how fast or slow a bait will sink/suspend ect. I have a subscription and watch many of the pros talk about hook selection on video. And the majority of them fish round bends and ewg hooks at different times of yr. That being hot vs cold time of yr. Which relates to the fish eating or swiping at the bait and there mouths being harder in the cold water and softer and easier to tear in warm water. So most of them use round bend in winter/cold water months and EWG in summer/warmer months of the yr. Hope this helps with some questions.
  12. What's your go to bait on a Shakyhead or a Swinging Jighead if you fish that more? Is there a certain depth you normally don't fish it over ex 15ft or less? And what weight if it's not windy? Curious of the last 2 questions if you want to answer them but if not mostly interested in which you fish more the standard or swinging and the bait you use most. Thanks guys.
  13. Since I've only been hardcore bass fishing for 5 yrs there are a lot of baits that I don't have much experience with. RI Sweet Beaver, how do you fish it mostly or catch the most fish with it? When you Tx-Rig it do you just fish it like a Tx-Rigged worm? Same question for the Missile D-Bomb and Destroyer? Thanks guys.
  14. Anyone have any experience with one, own one or even held one? They look nice and the specs on them seem like something I would like to try out.
  15. Can't this trip but yea would love that. I have family in the two locations I'm going.
  16. Yea I won't be back by the 4th. Think we talked about u goin to Fork? Thanks for the info I really appreciate it.
  17. Looking to fish while down here really bad! Will be in Jacksonville not sure exactly where but close to the river. Then in New Port Richey area. Lookin to fish anything lol, ponds the river or lakes. Hit me up and next time your in Tx I will take ya out on Fork.
  18. I didn't read all the responses but I catch as many fish, if not more, on my $40 rods as my buddy does on $300 rods. No way I'm spending more than $70-$80 on a rod; ever. Thanks for lettin us know lol. Sorry man just messin w ya, I couldn't resist.
  19. Had a friend from over there, and know I can't think of where he's from. But it's one of the football teams over there. Just thought u might of found it funny hearing someone from the states say that. And the sz of those perch are insane. Do people eat them over there or more so just for sport?
  20. I'm pretty sure that's the biggest perch I've ever seen, wow lol! Do u know what the record for perch is over there? Oh yea, Up the Blades!
  21. I wish they made that Curado in the 5 gear for lefties err! I need some deep cranking reels. Looks like I'm gonna have to go w the ABU Revo 3 Winch. I'm a die hard Shimano guy but I haven't fished a new Steez yet lol.
  22. $220! Man I never come across stuff like that. I would of bought 10 of them lol. So Field & Stream have brick and mortar stores? Did you have many different models to choose from? Let me know when u want to sell the 843C.
  23. After I buy one and talk about how awesome they are you won't be able to stop the bait monkey and he will seal the deal lol. Actually really looking forward to seeing it as in to see what components they used on it. I'm sure they will keep the blank the same color as the fly rod, what do u think? If so that's already going in the right direction for me. And now that they did away with the old GLX crankbait rods which I really like they only offer 3 I think in the E6X and then the older style ones. Do you think there gonna come out with a new line of crankbait rods soon if not at ICast?
  24. We already know they should of just hired me. I already said that? And before any Loomis fans which I have been for almost 27yrs get your panties in a bunch, I'm just repeating what they told the retailer's. And that was that the GLX hasn't been doing what they expected in sales, (WHAT THEY SAID NOT ME) blah blah blah it's all in my first post. The hiring part, ugh yea it's called a joke. Sorry if it upset you for whatever reason. Or maybe your on the board at Shimano idk but my OP certainly shouldn't upset anyone? And if it did once again I'm sorry and also jealous as I wish I only had such a simple life. I hope so lol. And also hoping and it should be the same color as the fly rod.
