  1. Mexico was nice for both fishing and diving.
  2. Your lake sounds similar to the lakes I fish down here. What state are you located in?
  3. Nice looking pond.
  4. Hard to go wrong with a Shimano spinning reel.
  5. Congratulations on your new PB!Hard to tell from a picture but she looks to be around 6-7 pounds.
  6. Doesn't surprise me,bass can be strange animals at times. There is one lake that I have caught decent sized bass on hotdogs when fishing for channel catfish.
  7. That's a impressive catch on a small fishing rod.Was she purposely fishing for striped bass?
  8. You know where she lives so you can always go back to the general area and try to catch her at a later time. She sounds to be at least 26-28" long if you can stick 2 fist in its mouth with extra space.
  9. Lots of good advice given.Having fun should be the #1 priority when someone is fishing. Don't stress over days that you don't catch fish,it happens to all of us.Have an open mind and be willing to use techniques that you haven't tried yet or haven't given enough time to learn well.
  10. Went fishing earlier today and was able to catch a couple decent bass in a short amount of time.It was raining heavily with wind gust of +30 mph.Beats being at home watching the news.
  11. It's just a old, worn down Ugly rod that's proven itself to be reliable in landing 100's if not 1000's of fish for me in the past +2 decades. It has been stepped on several times, thrown on contrete floor, high sticked on BIG fish ,yet somehow hasn't broken yet.
  12. Is that the rod you used to land the bass in your avatar? Those little barbie and spiderman rods have caught some big fish for people who know how to fish light tackle well. There's even a video on YouTube of someone using one of these tiny rods to catch a decent shark.
  13. Went for a quick fishing trip earlier today and caught a bunch of bass along with several other species of fish. Will go fishing again tommorow after the hurricane passes for good.Guess these fish in my area didn't get the memo that a big hurricane is coming this way.
  14. The spinnerbait is one of the best lures a bass fisherman can use.You can fish it where it breaks the surface, just below the surface, mid water level, and slow roll it near the bottom.
  15. I have caught sharks in excess of 100 pounds on this +20 year old rod and bigger bass than most people have caught on $$$ rods...Have flipped several +5 pound fish of various species and the fishing rod has yet to show signs that it will break.Have used this same rod with big saltwater plugs and caught fish that absolutely outclass largemouth bass in every aspect of fighting ability. As far as line ,I use anywhere from 8 pound test to 30 pound test line on this rod.A expensive rod that can't take a beating is worth nothing to me,but a rod that can meet my high expectations is worth purchasing.
  16. Those who went through Hurricane Andrew in South Florida already know what to expect and are very prepared for this hurricane.Probably going fishing later this night, or after the hurricane passes my area.
  17. Might be a good idea to use a shad imitating lure, such as a shad swimbait.
  18. One of my closest friends had a 125 gallon freshwater aquarium where he kept a bass he called Hank. Hank would eat from his fingertips and he even ate a piece of turkey meat on Thanksgiving.
  19. Those bass are so well conditioned to being fed that they will eat any lure thrown in the tank. They even feed them dead baitfish in the BPS by my house which is surprising since bass usually only eat a live animal or a lure imitating one.
  20. Looks like I might have to get my gear ready soon for some spillway fishing.
  21. Big bluegills are a good bait for freshwater tarpon.
  22. A pet bass will eat anything that it's owner puts in front of its face.
  23. I agree with you that a person's choice in fishing rod selection is subjective.I personally wouldn't waste a single penny on a rod that can't take a beating for several years,if not decades of hard fishing. I like fishing rods that can take a beating, that are strong, and that are sensitive enough for me to detect bites.
  24. My #1 fishing rod is over 20 years old,has caught me many bass over 8lbs,and cost me less than $60 when I bought it way back then.I also use this rod for inshore fishing and it handles large, powerful saltwater fish very well. The exact model of my rod is still available for less than $60.
  25. Wow,I have never had a rod break like that, especially on a relatively small fish like a largemouth bass.Goes to show you that a expensive rod isn't necessary better than a rod under $60.
