  1. Sounds like you had a good time. Florida overall is a beautiful state that has lots to offer for the outdoorsman. I highly recommend you visit the east coast of South Florida for some peacock bass fishing, these fish are a blast to catch. Also some offshore saltwater fishing if you have enough time during your vacation.
  2. I catch several big bass every single month that I fish for bass.It helps that I live in South Florida where the fishing overall is spectacular and the fact that I often fish +8 hours at a time, rain or shine.
  3. I do extremely well with the Zoom horny toad so I am looking towards to this new Zoom frog. Looks good, I will probably get a couple packets.
  4. The heat index was 110 degrees this past Saturday where I was fishing in South Florida, I made it through by drinking lots of water and fishing under the shade of trees. The fishing was even hotter and I caught lots of big peacock bass and quality sized largemouths, so it was worth taking the high heat and extreme humidity.
  5. Welcome to the forum. September is a great time for bass fishing in South Florida and you should have a great time. Almost any freshwater canal system in Miami Dade County- West Palm Beach should offer good fishing. The C-4 canal offers good largemouth bass fishing, with a good chance at catching peacock bass. The Kendall/Homestead region is well known for peacock bass, I suggest you do some research on this area since its loaded with big peacock bass. Some good lures to bring for largemouth bass are hollow belly frogs, poppers, zoom horny toads, swimbaits, flukes, spinnerbaits, and senkos. Some good lures to bring for peacock bass are jerkbaits, crankbaits, and poppers. Don't be afraid to use live bait if your goal is to catch a trophy peacock bass or trophy largemouth bass, since in the end of the day a +8 pound largemouth or +5 pound peacock bass is more impressive to catch than a sub 8 pound largemouth or sub 5 pound peacock bass.
  6. A 33'' channel catfish is a beauty by most if not every catfisherman's standards. They rarely get that big where I live ( Miami Dade County, Florida), but I have caught some monster channel catfish in South Florida. Biggest one I caught was a little over 34 inches long and 22 pounds on a digital scale.A 25 inch and above channel catfish is enough to earn you a channel catfish fishing citation in the state of Florida, so my 34 incher is one of my favorite freshwater catches.
  7. Nice bass
  8. Lots of people have caught largemouth bass over 26 inches and channel catfish over 32 inches, I am one of them.I do not plan on ever submitting a length record and rather submit a weight record as long as I can release the fish and not kill it. You are right, they catch +20 pound channel catfish up north all the time. These are trophy channel catfish for sure, but nowhere near world record size.

  10. Nice bearded dragon you have on your avatar
  11. Congratulations on catching your first muskie and welcome to the muskie club.

  13. Sorry for not responding sooner, I haven't logged in for a couple days. The water in the canals can have decreased water visibility for many reasons, such as increased water flow from recent heavy rains, increased sediment in water from all the extra water moving in the canals, increased algae in water from nutrient rich water and warm weather, etc. High water levels does not mean bad fishing, there are plenty of people doing extremely well these past 2 months, so the bass are still biting well across South Florida. I have lost count of all the 18-22 inch largemouth bass I have caught as bycatch these past 2 months while targeting peacock bass and bullseye snakehead and I am certain I could of caught much bigger bass if I where to specifically be targeting largemouth bass. I tend to fish around sunrise, sunset, cloudy/rainy conditions, at night ,etc during this time of year and avoid fishing in late morning/early afternoon.
  14. Beautiful pictures.Thank you for posting the article.
  15. The bass are still biting well across South Florida, you just have to try different techniques until you find the right one that works on a particular day.
  16. I have done quite well catching large number of bass(+ 100 bass in a day) with jerkbaits, both hard plastic and soft plastic varieties. Spinnerbaits, poppers, and hollow belly frogs are also good for catching large numbers of bass in my part of the country.
  17. Hope the killer rots in jail for life

  21. Sounds like you are going to have a good time fishing this weekend. Try snook fishing in our canal systems when you get a chance after your Punta Gorda fishing trip. There's plenty of big snook in the canals and these snook can be caught throughout the year.
  22. 6'0''-7'0'' heavy action rod that can handle a large amount of abuse from bank fishing to offshore fishing for dolphin.
  23. buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, hollow belly frogs, and texas rigged soft plastics are good lures to use in low visibility water.
  24. What species will you be targeting? There's some good tarpon, snook , and redfish fishing in that area of the state. I plan on scouting for lobster since the lobster season is approaching soon. Might harvest some reef fish in the process of scouting my lobster spots.
