  1. I will be at Lake Gaston next week, not staying on main lake. We will be back in one of the cuts, Great Creek. Anyone know what water clarity is or what bait colors work good there? Thanks,
  2. I have a few spots i target, parallel to shore, the lake i have been fishing lately has some good points i have been targeting
  3. So when you are cranking down on the rat? You get it swimming sub surface at a pretty good speed ? I have tried a few retrieves with the rat, have not let it sit. The shell cracker i have tried everything with no luck. the Gantarel i do mix up the speed and add a few pops and pauses. i have only tied off to the nose, does it work better at the other tie down? Dont get me wrong, I do love the Hudds, just looking to trying newbaits. The Hudd is probably why I feel like im lost. I had so much success with that right after i started using it, im expecting the same from these other baits.
  4. I have fallen into the trap of big swimbaits. I have had alot of luck with the Huddlestons. Although I like to fish fast, i tend to get bored creeping a Hudd. Recently I have bought the Gantaral Jr, Black Dog shell cracker, Spro BBZ rat. I have had ZERO luck. I dont know if im fishing them wrong, wrong placement or what. What kind of advice do you all have for retrieve methods and placement. Im using an Dobyns Fury with an Shimano Cardiff. Thanks
  5. Well I have received the Natives and the Oakley Prizms. I was definitely impressed with the Natives. For the price they are hard to beat. I really like that they come with an additional pair of lenses. The Oakley Prizms, not impressed at all. I shouldnt have to squint when in direct sunlight when wearing glasses. As bad as i thought Costas were they are far superior. I might go get some Smith and Maui Jims to try those.
  6. Well I ordered Natives and the Oakleys. I have to admit the Natives arent bad. They are obviously not top brand quality, but the lenses are great, and the glasses came with additional lenses that were a purplish pink color and they are amazing early in the morning. Oakleys should be here today
  7. Do you have the polarized Prizm glasses ? How are they on freshwater ?
  8. I have looked at Maui Jim, I had always sorda written them off. I always thought they were more of gimmicky brand. Had someone suggest them and they look good and functional.
  9. What is everyone using for Polarized glasses. Seems there has been alot of growth in the angler sunglasses market here over the last few months. I have been using Costas. Have two pairs with green lens and the other with smoke lens. Seems like the Costas quality has dropped off since they blew up as a business. Ive been suggested the oakley prizm and the Smith chromopop. Does anyone have any suggestions, dislikes for freshwater water fishing? THanks
  10. The weather for tomorrow is looking good, anyone that has a kayak headed out to fish?
  11. Anyone have any advice with this? Last Friday, weather had been good for a week plus, i saw the bass running the banks, blowing up on you water, overall highly active. Then midday Saturday a front moved through and the temp dropped, since then its like the fish have disappeared. I don't see them running the banks, or blowing up on top water since? The bite has slowed down tremendously, someone give me suggestions, I'm lost. Ive been trying to fish the break lines deeper but no luck!
  12. Your right, the costa fogging is major pain the ass for me. Ive tried several different models and seems to always be an issue. I use to be a huge oakley person, then to me they got way off base with trying design crazy glasses, but the Prizms, seemed like a good option.
  13. My Costa's are the 580G, I have the blue and gray lens. I bought a pair of cheap Calcuttas with a blue lens and felt like I could see alot more in the water, but the glasses were horribly uncomfortable. I have been curious of the Oakley Prizm or the Smith Optics Chromapop.
  14. I need some suggestions on what you all prefer for glasses. I do all of my fishing from the bank or kayak, and I am in somewhat clear water to murky water. Currently I have 2 pair of Costa's one pair with the blue lens and one pair with the gray lens. They're good but I feel there is something better. I would love to hear some ideas of what you all use, like and do not like. Thanks
  15. Need some advice, swivel snaps, are they good for crank baits or swim baits? Also, I have an Abu Garcia Revo Winch and Revo Rocket, which would you use each reel for ?
  16. Sweet, thanks for the tips. I spent majority of the day Sunday fishing for puppy drum despite being in a Bass Tournament.
  17. I spent pretty much all day yesterday and good part of today at Lone Star Lakes. Yesterday I fished Butler Trac with ZERO luck and today I fished Crane Lake with Zero luck. I was fishing from my Kayak, and every where I have fished prior has been way different than this place. Having banks that go from 2ft to 30 ft deep in a matter of feet has completely thrown me off. This is like no place that I have ever fished. Someone help me out!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also I heard that Crane Lake had some puppy drum in it? Is this true? I saw a guy today snag some speckled trout, some reds would be fun!!!!
  18. Awesome, Yeah its a little over grown! I thought about going back their one morning early with a weed wacker, but I didn't want to make it so we aren't allowed to fish there..
  19. You could also check out, the lake beside Wawa on Woodlake, watch out for the homeless people, most of the time their cool. Every once in awhile you get one wasted at 9am who wants to be a jerk. Another spot Ive had some good luck at, is 2 little ponds in front of the hotel off Battlefield beside the new Kroger and Field and Stream store. They're next to where Kroger is putting there gas pumps in.
  20. Hey everyone, thanks for the invite LSHEP. Finally some local people to talk to. Im in Chesapeake and you name it Ive fished it. Like Va Hunter said the lakes around the mall are pretty decent. There was another guy on here I referred to Hooter by the mall. The next day he thanks me for his PB. He caught a (lb hawg i front of Hooters. There are a lot of small ponds that like you I have found on google maps some paid off. That round mouth I have in my profile pic was in a little pond off cedar rd. I love and hate bank fishing, there times I like finding a little spot nobody would ever fish and pulling out a 3 or 4 LBer, Like others have said your limited, Ive been shopping kayaks myself last few days and Im torn on what to get. Heres a list of my chesapeake spots. Oak Grove - high pressure, very hit or miss and a lot of junk in the water, Greenbrier Lakes - some big ole pigs there, just need to find the spots that aren't abused FBI Building - lake in middle of the business park off clearfield, off kempsville, new fbi building is there, i have fished there a lot recently and have done fairly well. Chesapeake city park - in the very back behind the dog park, i went there one evening bored, and first 6 cast caught 6 fish. Cedar rd- theres a farm fresh at cedar and 17, tiny pond behind it, they kill top water back there. If you'll ever out here and see a giant black suburban, thats me. Say hi and teach me something,, please
  21. So I recently started throwing paddle tail swim baits. I really like the Kietch Swing Impact fat. It looks amazing going through the water. Ive been using a Trokar 3/0, 1/8 ounce swim bait hook. My question is how should I retrieve this bait. Ive tried a slow steady retrieve, a reel and let it sink retrieve and no luck. I saw some good size Bass follow it but no bites. Any suggestions ? Thanks
  22. Ive been fishing a few new spots and they have heavy grass.. Any suggestions on lures to use. I have been using the t-rigged senko and wacky rig but all i get is grass. Any suggestions on lures or set ups ?
  23. I have boots, but just freaked out about accidentally finding one..
  24. So after roughly 15-20 of not Bass fishing, I have started hitting hard again in the last 10 months. Fishing atleast 3 times a week. Even during the dreaded winter months. Even though I wasn't catching anything I was learning a lot. Getting use to a bait caster again, how baits react and so on. So this leads me up now, my first summer in many years fishing again. Being a bank fisherman, i pond hop often. Ive been hitting a lot of places of the beaten path, places where theres over growth 10-20 ft from the shoreline. After seeing 2 snakes in different places, i am beyond freaked out about coming up on others. Any suggestions or tips to avoid Johnny no shoulders???
  25. Congrats, thats awesome. Now stop showing me up in my area. LOL kidding, looks like your in front of Hooters, looks like i need to get back over there. Ive been hitting the back of those lakes. No luck like that. Congrats again What were you throwing to snag that hawg? Seems over there lately all I've had luck with is pink senkos.
