  1. JKT23113, sounds good, once ice clears I'll post some dates people can get together. Remember, watch you nickels and dimes and your dollars will follow.
  2. I am in Richmond and everything iced up, do you think you will be looking at open water soon, what about water depths? Even before the cold spell the low water in mountain streams was making for tough trout fishing.
  3. I just got one recently and only used a few times before ice came in, but I paired with Dobyns champion XP795. I only used in 2-4.2 oz range and had no problem with far casts.
  4. Agree with Scarborough, once you know that you can look at rods and power/actions. You want something pretty stout with fast action. I use a med-heavy 5 power, (it fishes more a heavy) and extra fast action. I have heavy matts/vegetation so I need something to power them out, also use fast reel to get 'em in quick.
  5. A lot of big sales on them thanksgiving thru Christmas, I heard they are coming out with new model but not sure if true....it was on the internet and we know the internet is never wrong..LOL
  6. I do believe same diameter as power pole 3/4", with a after market pole, you will need to drill a hole above metal tip to put clevis through which is held in place by cotter pin, the cord goes through unit and hooks up with pole at this lower pin.
  7. I would email or call him, he may have answer, super nice guy.
  8. The pole is 8', I wish I could find a 10'.
  9. I only use in ponds/lakes but it does hold well, I think as good as micro power pole can. I could see either dragging on hard surface in strong enough current.
  10. I agree with flyfisher on size, I started with 5 and returned a week later and got the 7, it was a big difference. The power pole with all the necessary attachments runs over $1000, and downside is you need battery and since electric things can go wrong plus the whole setup is very heavy. I bought one and before putting it on brought it back because I found a mechanical one called Bernies River Stick: https://www.berniesriverstick.com All-in it was about $250 bucks with adapter for my yak, thats almost $800 less than micro power pole. I love it, it is easy to use, very light weight, needs no battery and barely anything that can go wrong. Downside is it is not as sexy as micro pole but works great.
  11. Yes get it. I have the Ellte 7 on yak and side scan really comes in handy...do you need it? NO. But if you can afford it i think it helps even in shallow water. Mine went back to Lowrance for service work under warranty and will be here tomorrow so just in time for weekend if water unfreezes:) They were excellent to work with.
  12. Congrats on new yak, I started fishing out of one last summer and loved it. As far as PDF, I would go to store and try several on to see what you like and trust, but definitely get one and use it. Its like a seatbelt, the more you use it the more automatic it becomes putting it on. As far as outfitting, I also think this is best to get out there, start fishing and through experience outfit your yak to what works for you. I fish mostly shallow water but a fish finder is still very helpful, although I use something different the Hook 4 is supposed to be a very good inexpensive one. However you do not need one but it does come in handy and help you read bottom. Alot of people use milk crates with fish holders attached to help carry multiple rods, tons of ideas on youtube.
  13. A couple years ago I used Captain Kitt Grunloh and was very happy with him. We went out of north end of toho in Orlando area.
  14. Nice....
  15. No way.......technology will keep advancing.....we don't even know what we don't know.......but I like your thoughts on nano technology....
  16. Thanks Sam, great info. I am super excited about the Stripers, for last 10 years I've worked on 18th floor in downtown Richmond overlooking the James and spent way too much time looking at the striper fishers below 95. This year I will be with them and can't wait. I will be at the Doswell Fishing show and will look for DGIF folk
  17. Absolutely, love to have you. I live halfway between you and Briery just off Hull Steet. Also, Daniel the moderator of the Central VA kayak meetup group fishes Briery most every Monday afternoon to evening (his day off). He posts the event for others who want to show up on the Central Virginia kayak page on meetup.com, Daniel and his friend Amy are super nice folk. Once the ice melts I will try to get out there on a weekend and will shoot you email. Plus I am off the 15th and if ice gone I would like to get out then. In early December in frigid weather I caught a 5.45lb'er jigging a Binkly Blade.
  18. OK, I guess we don't get outdoor channel, over $100 on cable a month and no Outdoor Channel:(
  19. What channel are you watching this on, the Discovery channel on Verizon Fios didn't show it today?
  20. I can but take appropriate precautions. Also, when wade fishing I only use waist waders as I think they they help me from making bad decision in deeper water.
  21. Gerald Swindle or Aaron Martins.
  22. Welcome, I am in Chesterfield. I kayak but don't do saltwater (or haven't) but will be trying for stripers this March/April next to I-95 bridge on James.
  23. Dang, had no idea that bamboo or even St. Croix's could go so high. I am looking to get a New Orvis Helios 3 setup, but I am waiting to take the Orvis 101 Fly casting class so I can get a 20% discount on the setup. I think it goes to show that no matter the product or service, there is always a market for the high and ultra-high end.
  24. I have 12 footer and think its pretty good compromise for all around size, I would think the 115 would be good for your needs.
