  1. Story of my life.....LOL.....Follow up story... Virginia News: Older than middle aged man takes long walk off short pier:)
  2. They were mostly these..... Thanks but all is well. I hope the person who has them has better luck with them than I did....LOL I will definitely do this.... Thanks all for support...this will one day make good fishing story.......I have to admit if I found the box, I would have brought to the little marina next store and asked to put in lost and found.
  3. Yesterday on lunch went to local fishing pier to play around with new reel, I had my tackle box in Jeep but just took small plano box with all my spinner/buzz baits with me along with rod. Left tackle box in jeep. Got to pier, made about 5 casts and started talking to some guy who was there. We spoke about 20 minutes and then I needed to get back to work. I picked up rod and left and didn't realize until 9 at night I left plano box on pier. Went back today and its gone. On the negative side I need to replace about $100 in lures, on the positive side I get to go shopping......
  4. How long do you stay with a set-up before deciding to switch to another?
  5. Good questions, I wait the responses also.....
  6. I have been married for 26 years, as newly weds I used to tell my wife "I cannot be your sole source of entertainment"....I think it is healthy and important for couples to have "space". I would seriously talk to her about this, it will not get better....only worse.
  7. How many times do you pitch or flip to a specific target before moving on to next one?
  8. I also got skunked today, a lot of rain so ponds were very dark muddy and flooded. Temps dropped as well. How do you guys fish rain swollen muddy water? Threw frogs tonight and swim jogs - slow!
  9. Thanks for correction.....
  10. I have three Dobyns, a 634cb, 684cb and a 735C. The 735c is a med/heavy but really fishes like a heavy, it is my dedicated frog rod. All my Dobyns are great rods. I too am just starting to look at a rod I can throw Spinnerbaits, Chattterbaits, and buzzbaits I can throw a country mile on...and considering the 735CB. I don't think you will go wrong with either rod you are looking at. My 634cb and 684cb have Lew’s Team Lite Speed Spool reels on them and the 735c has Curato 200HG.
  11. Last year I bought a JB Customs Rods Frog n Rat rod at fishing expo, recently upper rod guide separated from tip top sleeve. I emailed JB and left several messages but clearly service after sale is not important to them, I was going to buy a second rod from them but will pass due to poor customer service. What is best way to fix rod tip, do I try to JB Weld rod guide back on or replace guide/tip combo. How do I get old rod tip off? I heard you heat it then pull off but not sure if correct. Thanks in advance.
  12. Thanks all, I didn't buy kayak yet but last night I jumped the gun and bought Rhino rack universal loader, Boonedox loading wheels w/ pro angler extension and the BerleyPro Lowrance total image transducer protector for Pro angler. I figure I should have all this within two weeks when I will have time to go buy kayak. As you can see I am in all likelyhood getting the Hobie Pro Angler 12. I will test at shop putting on Jeep and if I can do it without breaking back I will get. I have not settled on Simrad or Lowarance, SI or not, and 5 or 7". But I want to decide and get before I pick up kayak so I can put on right away. My thoughts are to get SI and 7" since there may be times I would want it so better to have than not. Any idea's on what battery I should get for this or does it come with own?
  13. I am shore guy and really have come to despise it. In the ponds & small lakes I fish the algae, scum and weeds around edges and even on middle are so bad I barely fished last year because it gets too frustrating, add fighting the trees and shrubs and it can get even more frustrating. You can fight through it but it gets very old. Last year I bought waders and it helps to walk out several to quite a few feet but still not perfect. This year I may actually get a kayak, narrowing down now, last year almost got canoe but my anal overthinking wrecked wasted too much time. This spring I will not overthink.
  14. Looking at fish finder for kayak, can't decide on 5" or 7" size (I am not getting sidescan). For a kayak is one size better than other - my uses are in ponds small - medium lakes, narrow rivers. If it matters I am looking a Simrad Go XSE (5 or 7") and competing Lowrance Elite Ti models. Is 5 or 7" overkill? Would 4" suffice??? Also I would like to pick up trolling motor that supports Xi5 or Autopilot capability? Thanks
  15. Fishnkamp, thank you for thoughtful reply, I do bank bass fishing on small ponds/lakes in Richmond area. I am tired of the bank, so the idea is to get a boat I can use as bass boat plus other uses I mentioned. Last year I didn't fish as much as I normally do partly because of getting bored with fishing from bank or wading in a few feet. I plan to use it mostly on James, Rappahannock, Appomadox rivers and creeks along with lakes in Central Va, plus tow around further including SE Florida. I was thinking this size might be a little small for Chesapeake, it's bigger brother the 222 or 246 would be much better but on calm days this could hit some striper runs. Plus as you mentioned ths would open up opportunites for more species in rivers/tidal waters. I started looking at pure bass boats, but to satisfy all family members I though this was better fit. Maybe not best in any one category, but overall pretty good in many. PS, I did see the link you provided. Thanks
  16. I am looking at a Robalo 206 Caymen bay boat w/ 150 Yamaha, although not a bass boat it looks like it really can double as one in most situations. This boat is family friendly, has 10" draft, large casting deck up front and decent in rear. Benefit is I can us a family sports boat, cruise with wife, bay and shallow water boat, near shore on real nice days BUT also use as bass boat. I was looking at bass boats but they really are one purpose machines. Anyone doing this or have thoughts?
  17. You need to use a special frog trailer hook, the from has two hooks parrell to each other, and the trailer hook is "V'ed" to attach to double frog hooks.
  18. I think I'll give it a try, mid-day sun out and hot. I usually don' fish these conditions but my ponds have a lot of weeds and scum this time of year so maybe I have been missing something.
  19. They do not push to side at all, the hook is pointed up so when frog hits from bottom or rear I get nice hook in center of throat or lip. The trailer hook as increased my hookups a lot. The trailer hook can get snagged occasionally on some scum or if dragging thru plants but since it sits point up in middle behind frog its minimal. It also helps with short strikes, alot of time fish will short strike the frog, maybe scaring it or chasing it away or just missing it, but the trailer hook will land some of these. I highly recommend. I posted a couple days ago about a 3.9LB 18" LMB that blew up on my frog, let it go, I let it sit a few seconds and than it hit the frog with an explosive second blow up wherre he inhaled frog. When I landed it the frog was deep in mouth, neither frog hook was snagged but trailer hook was hooked very deep in throat. I also use scent on frogs as I do think it helps fish hold onto frog a little longer before trying to eject.
  20. Nothing wrong with worm and bobber. In my local ponds I can be struggling with all my expensive gear to catch a fish but the 8 y.o's with bobbers and worms on a Zebco rod/reel do well. Your right in seeing that bobber go under is huge rush. For me I like the challenge of selecting the right lure, working it, adjusting and adapting to situation and constant motion of artificial. Watching bobbers just gets boring, even if fish are biting. The same goes for minnows, they work great here but I find it to slow type fishing for me, but people that use them kill it. I rarely fish when too hot due to slow down so I usually limits self to early am and dusk.
  21. I prefer early morning and towards dusk, I use trailer hook which really helped hook-ups. My favorite method is along edge of pads or scum, or throwing on them and walking them off. Open water between pads or scum is really good but I never had much luck in pure open water. Blowups 12" in front of me in the pond scum are not uncommon at all:)
  22. Went to local pond last night with daughter for only an hour, only second time putting line in water since early April due to life:) I have been avoiding forum so as not to be reminded of what I am missing. We only fished for an hour but using frogs on first cast had blowup walking it over pond scum. 15 minutes later cast it over open water to more pond scum and as I was retrieving off scum got big blowup but bass let go, I let it sit for few seconds and BAM second monster blow up, splash was so loud two anglers quite a ways away looked over, bass took frog under and when I felt a good tug I set hook. Was rewarded with a 18" 3.9lb LM, which is big fish in my local ponds. The bass inhaled my frog and was hooked by trailer hook deep in throat, I was also using scent on frog. Man have I missed this. Daughter did real well casting and retrieving her frog as well, she really liked it.
  23. I was going to go fishing yesterday morning, but the weather stunk and very cold heavy wind blowing so decided to go the VA Fly Fishing and Wine Expo instead. I didn't care about the Wine part, but gotta say was rather disappointed compared to the Fishing Expo at same venue in January. I went looking for specific things and was expecting some expo discounts, WRONG! Paid my twenty bucks to get in and it was smaller than I expected. Also the flyrod choices were extremely limited, but they did have some beautiful bamboo rods if one was interested. I did get a pair of Simms waders I was looking for but no one had waders on any discount at all, I paid retail....stupid me but I didn't want to wait any longer. When I went to the January fishing expo there were deals all around and I came away with quite a few nice new toys. I can't figure out why this show had none. There were three positives, one was some decent seminars especially for beginners, two - a lot of nice locally tied flies and three - vendors were super nice. Most likely won't ever go back again, just no real need to.
