  1. Straight braid, and it may be unnecessary, but I always super glue my palomar knot in place with braid.
  2. Just so everyone knows, the IRS only uses the mail to contact you, they don't call.
  3. If you're decently coordinated you can pick it up quickly. Having someone show you how to cast makes a big difference.
  4. Great advice-if you like the baitcaster, it certainly will not be your last. I have a couple of Silver Max reels (essentially the same thing, just a little nicer) and I really like them. A reel like that will easily last you until you get started in your career and have the $$$ to toss at better equipment. I would be more than surprised if you wore out a Black Max reel. ***The same could be said for any of the lower end name brand reels. Bass pro and Cabela's house brands included.
  5. Somehow my 1987 Master Catalog managed to avoid the trashcan. I found it in a box of books about a year or so ago. It averages a mullet per page.
  6. To each his own, I'd rather have someone walk into my office smelling like vapor than a cigarette. (I quit cigs 5+ years ago-never again)
  7. I keep a 5'6" pistol grip boron BPS rod with a Rattle trap tied on in my car ar all times. It's nice to hop out of the car and get in a few casts on a stressful day.
  8. Why revive a damaged brand name? Makes no sense to me, especially with the way the brand gets trashed around here-if you guys are any indication, they will be losing some money in a big way.
  9. How about Bama not scheduling UAB in the hopes of destroying their program by not paying them to lose? Good old Jim Tressel at least scheduled patsies in the state of Ohio to keep the money at Ohio institutions and give more kids the chance to play in the Horseshoe.
  10. I'm a Buckeye as well, and I doubt the SEC cheats in recruiting any more than our beloved Urban does-with a few possible isolated exceptions. My biggest SEC gripe is that out of conference game they play in Oct-November. If Bama played Ole Miss this year in that game rather than Charleston Southern, we may have had a different playoff. I also don't understand the SEC chant. I hate it when *ichigan or Wisconsin wins, period.
  11. My $$$ Fenwicks from 1993-95 are still excellent. Granted, I take really good care of my stuff and try to buy top shelf, but I hope to use them for a long time to come.
  12. Not a Star Wars guy, just came here to say that the movie was "spoiled" for folks on the "View New Content" page. The post preview had some pertinent information about the movie. (Not that I care, I'll watch it in three years on FX anyway)
  13. No more Uncle Josh? Uggh. One more thing to tell the women in my life to look for at garage sales.
  14. Happy Silver Thread user of over 20 years-I have no complaints.
  15. Disclaimer:I'm a Buckeye fan, just so you know where my allegiances lie. I think Clemson gets beat by Alabama here. Shaq Lawson needs to play for Clemson in order for them to keep it close. Lots of respect for the Tigers, but I think Henry breaks a few runs in the fourth to seal this one.
  16. They fit in the trunk of my car, so I always have one with a lip less crank bait with me. They don't go into the boat though. Mine are early 80s BPS boron rods, 5'6".
  17. If rust isn't an issue, I'd keep it. Registration and insurance (at least in my state) really kill you on new vehicles. There's still guys who will buy a used Toyota with 225+. If you go a year without making a payment, it's saving you roughly 5-6000-at 400 to 450 a month. Granted, that isn't factoring in repairs, but even at a savings of 3500 in one year (which doesn't take into account insurance/reg.) I think it's worth keeping. Besides, what can a new one do that your truck can't?
  18. When you come up here we can drop shot all day.
  19. LOL at "Clouds, bro"
  20. Another vote for Sirius/XM or IHeartRadio/TuneIn radio apps. Tune in has at least one country classic station, IHeart allows you to create your own stations, and Sirius/XM is truly amazing. I started looking for alternatives when my favorite rock station-WFNX out of Boston-closed down a few years back. All of the local radio (Top 40/Garbage New country/assorted crap/Boston sports talk) is so bad it's worth the cost.
  21. I think vaping is ok, because it doesn't affect me. As I said, I smoked for a solid 15 years, and I can honestly say that the smell is revolting to me now. (I've heard it's worse to former smokers than to non-smokers, btw.) I hate to think that I smelled like that all those years. I really don't care what people do to themselves, but when I stink because of someone else's smoke it bothers me. I had a couple in the office this week that obviously chained a few down before they came in...I could smell it hours later. I wish that a few of my loved ones would switch over to vaping. A lot of my friends do it, and it's comical to watch.
  22. Good luck on your journey to being tobacco free. I've been there, and will thankfully never smoke again. Hope it goes well for you.
  23. You asked about buzzbaits-I always have mine on the fastest reel I own. It's really the only time I ever noticed gear ratio-I don't do much with crankbaits.
  24. I have spare spools ready to go for my spinning reels. Three of my reels are the same model Daiwa, which helps. I label each spool with a Sharpie "6F or 8M" for 6lb fluoro or 8lb mono. I don't carry spare baitcasters, although I probably could.
