I've got an old Falcon and a couple original Speed Sticks, all 5'6".
They all have their place-as does my 7'10" fiberglass cranking rod. I do like the short ones best for working topwater baits, it's just easier for me.
I've used them for ages, in the 80s my father drilled holes in them and epoxied tiny split shot and bb's to make them suspend. They are great baits, especially as a backup when ypu are throwing topwater and they won't commit to an aggressive lure.
Dean's Beans out of Orange Massachusetts. Their "Roadhouse" has very low acidity which is easy on my 4:30 am empty stomach, and it's at my door two days after they roast it.
They also do a ton of great things for the farmers in third world countries where the beans are grown. I don't talk politics online, but I will always use companies who do the right thing.
Whichever jig head you pick, I highly recommend supergluing the TRD to it at home. The bait will last as long as the jig, and once it slides down the hook shank a bit, it is tough to get it back the way you want it.
Yes, that's been going on for quite some time. I remember Mark Aguirre and Cedric Ceballos (two well known NBA players at the time) being invited to play in the 92 Olympics for Mexico. Both had fathers born in Mexico.
I've switched over to braid to mono and have been very happy with it. I'm no longer concerned with knot strength and the difference in stretch (which never bothered me anyway) is very little over a 6' leader.
I'm fairly certain I saw you post this back in May, and wanted to thank you. I showed it to the Mrs and later that day she went from TJ Maxx specials to a new pair of Costas.
You're on the right track, more like 17 or 20 instead of 12/15 though. I used 17 lb and a 3/8 oz jig with pork for most of my life. Now I switch to braid when the grass really gets thick.
If you can find a used LL Bean backpack, those have excellent quality zippers and a ton of storage. I use two for all of my 3700 boxes, one when I'm in a smaller boat.
They certainly do work, I just haven't used one since I stopped riding a bike to go fishing. I've caught a lot of bass throwing Cicadas, which is part spoon, part silver buddy.
