  1. Walmarts have Berkley Lighting Shock rods. Maybe you can check there. On the deal thread someone reported that their local Walmart had started their annual pre-spring clearance and picked one up for $9. They are normally $40.
  2. Gamakatsu Finesse Wide Gap Hooks # 230411 size 1/0
  3. The bait monkey has been telling me it's time to stock up on low speed reels before they are history.
  4. I use a small Norman Speed Clip. Also use this for crankbaits. I remove any split ring that came with the bait.
  5. I have a 6'6" Medium Veritas 2.0 casting rod. I sometimes use it for senkos which are 3/8 oz. I mostly use it for 1/4 Keitech jig with a paca chunk, which is probably 1/2 oz total. Works well for both baits for me. I haven't tried anything lighter.
  6. I am really happy with the NRS Chinook Fishing PFD. It's $110. Very comfortable and designed for kayak fishing. It has a high back, several pockets, a tool retractor, and a knife lash tab. (I also have the NRS co-pilot knife.) Also has rod holder loops and a d-ring on the back for a net in case you want to use if while fly/river fishing. More d-rings on the front. Check it out here: https://www.nrs.com/product/40009.03/nrs-chinook-fishing-pfd
  7. I know you want to be able to move it between your boat and kayak, but your kayak also has a recessed transducer mount on the bottom. Have you thought about buying another transducer?
  8. I usually fish from my kayak and only bring one spinning and one baitcaster. If it's a quick trip maybe only one spinning rod. I have 10 combo's but don't like to bring too much stuff. I like to focus on one or two techniques and will bring the appropriate setup. I'm still learning, so maybe this will change as I learn more.
  9. It's felt pretty cold the last 2 days. What are you wearing while kayaking?
  10. Do you remember which seller you bought it from?
  11. Thanks for all the great ideas guys! Can't wait for ice out to try these out.
  12. Thanks for all the replies! I'm thinking I'll try this rod for 1/4 oz topwaters, like Pop-R's, when the ice melts. I have a Shimano Chronarch 50e. What line would you recommend?
  13. A few years back I bought a Shimano Clarus casting rod on sale and I've never been sure what would technique it would be good for. Model: CSC68MB Length: 6' 8" Lures: 1/8 - 1/4 Line: 6- 12 Power: Medium Action: Fast It's labeled Jig and Worm but it's pretty soft and the lure range is really light. Looking for suggestions on what technique this rod would be good for? Thanks!
  14. Wow! Nice fish! I love that you are wearing a Lakers hat while catching Lake Trout.
  15. Moneyball and Repo Man.
  16. It works pretty well but takes a long time to screw down.
  17. Yes and I wear a pfd at all times. Please go ahead and take swimming lessons and wear your pfd. I have a family friend who did not wear a pfd and couldn't swim. He fell out of a canoe last summer on a small pond and drowned in 8 feet of water. He got trapped in milfoil. The divers had a tough time finding his body. Such a shame. He was only 65 and had just retired and loved fishing everyday.
  18. That looks nice. Where did you buy that and how much?
  19. 20. Kayak most of the time and occasionally from the shore.
  21. Merry Christmas! Waltham. Where are you?
  22. I fish from a kayak so mostly 6' to 6'6" for me, spinning and casting. I had an old 5'6" pistol grip rod in my youth and miss that. Wish they still made those.
  23. I like the Strike King KVD Caffeine Shad with an EWG.
