  1. What brand/models are those 6 footers?
  2. Switch up the third rod depending on where you go. Either H/F frog rod, M/M crankbait rod or M/F casting rod.
  3. Wow that's a great deal! I wish they had Academy up here. I visited on in Texas once. Was so jealous of the selection and prices.
  4. This is a brilliant idea!
  5. I have the same rod for trout fishing. Got it for $30 at Dick's. (Same company as Field and Stream.) Works great for trout. I've even caught a few small (1-2 lb) bass on it and it's held up well. Very comfortable and has good action. https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/okuma-celilo-trout-spinning-rod-15okuucll5ft6l2pcrod/15okuucll5ft6l2pcrod?recid=Product_PageElement_product_rr_1_9073_&rrec=true Another option is a Berkley Cherrywood 5'6" light rod. $25 at Walmart. Dick's has it with a BlackMax spinning reel for $40. https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/berkley-cherrywood-hd-black-max-spinning-combo-17bkyuchrrywd105fcom/17bkyuchrrywd105fcom
  6. Thanks Jaime! I like the mods you made. I subscribed to your channel a while ago. Glad to hear that your back is better!
  7. I just wanted to update that I did an exchange and the external brake dial on the new one is super smooth and much easier to turn. The first one must have been bad. Thanks to everyone for the line recommendations. I think I will go with 15lb invisix and use on a mh rod for jigs. Can't wait for ice out.
  8. Sorry to hear you had to have back surgery. I hope you heal soon. Which kayak do you have that is 30lbs? With my bad back I need something light like that to put on my 4runner.
  9. Forgot to mention that Perception makes scupper plugs for their kayaks that fit perfectly. https://www.perceptionkayaks.com/us/scupper-hole-plugs You can find them cheaper on amazon, just search for "Harmony Scupper Plugs." Harmony is the parent company of Wilderness Systems and Perception. No doubt 12 footers are the sweet spot. I bought the 10 for slightly lower weight as I have a bad back and every pound counts when I have to hoist a kayak on top of my 4runner. I wish the places I fish had room to park with a trailer. I wound up getting a Thule Outrigger to help. I think I am ready for something lighter. Can anyone recommend a light 12 foot sit on top with a lawn chair style seat?
  10. I have the same kayak. Its actually 10’6”. I bought it after renting the 12” many times. (I had an unlimited summer pass at a local lake.) I also debated getting the 10 vs 12. I think the 10 tracks really well. I fish mostly small ponds and wanted something easier to load on the roof that had a comfortable lawn chair seat. Also both sizes are terrible for standing. If you want to stand you need something bigger but it will weigh more. As James mentioned the rod holders are totally useless. I fact I lost a rod one time when I was renting the 12. It was a cheap spinning combo, but still a bummer. (On the upside it gave me an excuse to get something nicer. ?) I got a crate and a 3 rod holder and zip tied it to the outside of the crate. Added some paracord with carabiners to clip the rods in place so I don’t lose another rod. Definitely need scupper plugs especially under the seat as it doesn’t drain well and water will pool under your seat. I haven’t done any mods. I also don’t like the built in handles. I would like to add some handles but haven’t decided whether to put them on the side or the top. Feel free to ask any questions.
  11. I've had the same thing happen with Dick's. One end of the box was open. I was surprised the rod even made it here. They also sent me the wrong model of rod. I returned it to my local store. I have ordered reels, baits and terminal tackle from Dick's without any problems, but I will never order a rod from them again.
  12. Another vote for the Sienna 1000.
  13. I bought the same kayak, 2 years ago, at REI for 15% off during their annual Memorial Day sale. I believe they also have them 15% off for Presidents Day. I've seen similar sales at Austin Kayak. Also look for local kayak demo days. They often have similar specials. Don't forgot a PFD!
  14. Acme Kastmaster in silver
  15. I got tired of hooks sliding around too so I leave them in the original pack and keep them in an open Plano with no dividers.
  16. I use Keitech tungsten jigs. Black and blue is my favorite color. They have them at Dick's. Of course you can get them cheaper online.
  17. I use a google doc spreadsheet I can access on my phone.
  18. Sorry. I misunderstood.
  19. I get it. I hate spending money too. I always try to figure out how to save money by using what I already have. I was just worried about paddle flex if you did the extension thing. Paddle flex saps a lot of power from your paddle stroke. Wide kayaks are already slow enough to begin with. Just my 2 cents. Let us know how it goes and post pics if you do the extension project. J Francho is right. You can get lots of paddles in the size you want. I started with a 96 inch (243 CM) paddle I bought online from for $33 from Walmart. Kind of heavy but it worked. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Propel-Paddle-Gear-Kayak-Paddle-Yellow-Feather-Blade-2-Piece/49398410
  20. I think the extender would add a lot of extra flex to the paddle. If you are a happy with the $60 paddle why not just buy another one in the 250 length you want (if it's available) instead of sacrificing the 220 one too?
  21. A drop of oil on the spool shaft should take care of the noise.
  22. Do you guys have problems with turning the external brake adjustment dial on the curado 70/71? I find it very hard to turn the dial. Maybe I just got a bad one?
  23. Cabela's has some G.Loomis rods at 25% off. I just ordered a GLX 783c MBR for $311
