  1. Thanks for all the replies!
  2. Do you recommend taking out the spool for a Calcutta 200d and rinsing as shown after every saltwater use?
  3. Just found this video from Shimano on reel maintenance. Never thought to wash reels this deeply. What do you guys do?
  4. That's a pretty sweet setup @Crow Horse!
  5. @Eric 26Thanks for heads up! I'll check out @bulldog1935 posts.
  6. @Eric 26Funny. I was looking for recommendations for 2 piece 6'6" casting and spinning rods when I saw you tag me. Also looking for padded and divided rod tubes to keep them in the trunk. I do have a three piece Daiwa Ardito in casting rod in medium power. Overall, it's great. Fit and finish are above the price and the case is great as it has dividers for all three pieces. Only downsides to me are it's a bit heavy in weight and the power of the medium is more like a MH to me. I also prefer 6'6" rods. I'm probably just being picky, but you can never have too much fishing gear. 😁
  7. Spyderco Delica 4 PlainEdge and a Swiss Army Classic SD on my keychain
  8. Which Knipex model do you guys have?
  9. I wound up going with a Shimano Spheros SW. Almost all my reels are Shimano and this one feels familiar to me. Thanks for all the recs!
  10. Thanks for the recommendations!
  11. Anyone have saltwater spinning reel recommendations? Planning to fish Southern California beaches for perch, corbina and halibut. Planning on using a carolina rig or luckycraft 110’s using a 7 foot mf spinning rod. Trying to keeping it under $200. Thanks!
  12. I've never fished in VA so not sure if that will cover all your bases. No rule that you have to cover all bases either. That said, a medium fast spinning rod covers a lot. Your medium heavy casting rod does too. I think you will be set for a while. Plenty of time to go down the gear rabbit hole. Just don't visit the "show off your stuff" or "latest rods and reels purchase" threads. They are evil...There are bad people there that will tempt you.
  13. The rod selection basics post is awesome, however if you don’t fish treble baits you might not need a medium power medium action rod. I read that post as a beginner bass angler and became obsessed with finding the perfect rod for crankbaits. Problem was I later learned that my local fishing spots are so full of weeds in the summer, that crankbait fishing is really impractical because all I caught were weeds. (Maybe I was just doing something wrong and you guys can chime in.) The journey learning about crankbait equipment was still fun and I’m ready if I move again. LOL! My point is you also need to factor in where you fish . You don't say where you’re from. If you do, someone local to your area might chime in and give some advice. For me a medium heavy for jigs and texas rigs, plus a medium or medium light spinning rod for unweight plastics (like wacky worm) and light 1/4 ounce topwater poppers fit my needs. My casting rod is a GLoomis MBR medium heavy rod. It is made to be an all around versatile bass fishing rod. GLoomis makes the MBR model in several lines so you can get one that fits your budget. I have the glx, I got on sale when bass pro shops was liquidating my local cabelas inventory many years ago. At this point you I would say just get 6’6” to 7’ medium power fast action spinning rod to pair up with the sahara you have and just go try techniques with it. Meet and chat with local anglers to learn what techniques work best in your area. You’ll also find out what techniques you like fishing. I will also share that, when I started I bought many rods for different techniques. I wound up owning 13 rods. I recently moved cross country and used the opportunity to give everything away, except the two rods and one trout rod, to friends and neighbors. It’s really freeing not to overthink things anymore. I’m a bank/kayak angler so I don’t have space for many rods either. Maybe things would be different if I had a boat. Good luck and enjoy the journey!
  14. Wonderful news!
  15. Happy Birthday!
  16. The case is about 29 inches, so probably not going not fit in a suitcase. It's something you carry on the plane and put in the overhead bin.
  17. I use a Daiwa 3 piece Ardito casting rod. Comes with a rod tube. https://daiwa.us/products/ardito-tr-travel-rods
  18. Sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and his family.
  19. They have the NHS, so basic gear is covered. JDM is out of pocket.
  20. You can get a prescription to go fishing in the UK! https://www.instagram.com/reel/C0SrzbRry7G/?igshid=ZWI2YzEzYmMxYg==
  21. What is this retirement thing you speak of? 😂😂😂
  22. Alternate between 1) Panasonic electric 3 blade razor 2) Gillette Mach 3 3) Merkur mk34c with a Feather Japanese double edge blade
  23. Why not just get another ML XF Victory rod? You already like the one you have.
  24. I would just get a medium casting rod. I used to live in MA. When bank fishing, I liked to only carry one 6’6” spinning or casting rod. I was always walking through lots of trees around all the small ponds and lakes in MA so less gear was better. Spinning seemed to work better mostly because I was fishing from small gaps between all the trees when walking around ponds. Mostly fished wacky or Texas rigs with a 5” senko with this rod. Sometimes I would fish small topwaters or flukes too. I also fished from a kayak and would also carry both med casting and spinning rods and fish texas rig or small jigs with the casting rod. Over the years I bought lots of other rods but mostly used those two. I had a medium heavy casting rod for bigger jigs and a heavy casting rod for frogs but rarely used those as the fish just are not as big in MA as these other guys have in the south. Also had several crankbait casting rods, but eventually didn’t use those as much cause places I fished had lots of weeds and I didn’t have a boat. Lots of good trout fishing too, so get a light or medium light spinning rod too. good luck and welcome to BassResource!
