  1. I also forgot to include the Powell Max 3D 683 or 684C. I remember reading that the Powell rods were designed by the same person responsible for the Dobyns, so are the Champions lighter and more sensitive than the Powell and Tatula?
  2. Isn't the DX over $300? Would the sale be 15% off? My budget is $200, so I don't think I can afford a new Dobyns Champion DX.
  3. Hey guys, I have a Daiwa Tatula 6'10" casting rod that I use as an all purpose rod, but I've been thinking about getting a Dobyns Champion as well, especially the 683C or 684C, as another all purpose but shorter rod. For those who have tried these rods, do you think the Dobyns are worth the extra $80? I know sensitivity is subjective, but what are your thoughts or experience in this aspect? I fish a lot of jigs and Texas rigged craws, so sensitive is huge for me. Thanks
  4. Caught 3 bass today on my new Aldebaran and finesse jigs. I never imagined I would be fishing at this time of the year in Boston
  5. My first $50+ purchase in baits at TW, and my first Shimano reel ever that I got as a gift. I will probably try out finesse jigs with it.
  6. Correct, but you should double check about parking. Not sure if it's only for residents in that area. Once you go down the ramp, just walk in the opposite direction of the Esplanade.
  7. My PB crappie so far 1.43lb caught on a tube
  8. It was less than a week ago. I actually went again 2 days ago and caught a new PB crappie (1.43lb) and over 10 other crappies. I also caught a decent bass. Every time I go, I see someone catching carps. About parking, I just walk there, but you could try parking on Beacon St, close to Mass Ave. I've always caught a fish at this confluence, there is always something there.
  9. I've been fishing at the Charles River in the Boston area where the Muddy River connects to it. Been catching bunch of crappies, few bass, and even a perch. Tubes worked the best, and other people were catching bunch of carps using corn. Today I caught my PB crappie (1.2lbs). Hope this helps to anyone who decides to fish in the Boston area.
  10. I noticed it was very easy to walk the Livetarget mouse, but I never got a bass to bite it. I caught a huge frog though
  11. Couldn't resist it lol. Just placed an order
  12. Freshwater dorado. I have yet to catch one of them
  13. Flukes... I just can't seem to make it work. If you had asked this question in October, I would have included Senkos. Only caught 3 bass on them since then.
  14. I would recommend the Tatula rod as well. You can get the Tatula 6ft10in MH for $95 free shipping at Red's gear after using the code "RED10DEAL" or the 7ft2in H for around $110. I ordered mine a few days ago, so I'm still waiting on it.
  15. Jigs 2 months ago
  16. I went to the DSG in Saugus, MA. I saw a few Abu Garcia Veritas rods for $75, Trokar hooks for $5.99, and a few lures here and there. I was expecting to see more fishing stuff on sale.
  17. I'd recommend Siebert Outdoors and NorthStar for jigs. I've caught my top 2 PB with their jigs.
  18. The Patagonia is actually far from where I live, so I've never had the chance to fly fish. The whole area is really nice, and I heard it's great for fly fishing as well.
  19. The boga grip scale showed 7kg. I think the fish looks bigger because my friend took the pictures with his gopro (wide setting I would assume).
  20. Well unfortunately, my friends could only go fishing to places around the city, so we went to Río de la Plata with a guide. We only used live baits (eels) looking for dorados and patí (sort of catfish). We had several bites of the latter, and we managed to bring one to the boat. It was my first patí ever, and it weighted 15.5lbs. My friend had a Dorado bite at one point, but he missed it. We will definitely go for dorados when I go back to Argentina, but for now, I will have to get used to this crazy winter.
  21. Here are some pics. The first one is from the Laguna El Burro. The next 5 from Hopliass, and the last one from Kakel Huincul.
  22. Hey guys, not sure if this should be posted here or in "other fish species" since I'm not fishing for bass. Feel free to move this post to where it corresponds. Anyway, I'm currently in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I've had the opportunity to go fishing 3 times so far. For now, my buddy and I have been targeting this fish called "tararira" aka "tarucha" or hoplias malabaricus. I've read on a few notes from Argentina that the "tararira" is pretty similar to bass in terms of fishing, so I had prepared some bass lures beforehand to try them out. During our first trip, we went to this lake called "Laguna El Burro" where people were catching many tarariras. Unfortunately, they weren't taking any lures. After using multiple soft baits and frogs for many hours, I switched to live baits like my friend. At around 2:30pm, he got his first bite. His bobber went down, and he set the hook. I could see how this fish was taking some line as it was making a run, but unfortunately, it got off. Literally 5 minutes later, he got another bite. Set the hook, and this time, he managed to bring it next to the boat. It was easily a 3-4lb fish, but after thrashing around, it got off as well. His next 2 bites were 2 catfish, which we used as bait. Finally, I got a bite, but the bobber wasn't sinking... this fish had the bait in its mouth and was just moving around. When it decided to go between some vegetations, I set the hook and got our first tararira. After this, we had no more bites, so we went home. On our second trip, we went to a small body of water owned by "Hopliass Piscicultura Intensiva", an organization that's trying to help this species out. They breed this species and stock different lakes where the number of this species has been decimated due to ilegal fishing and other issues, and by paying the entrance fee, you are helping them out as well. If you are interested in it, you can look it up on Facebook since they post many pictures about their work. Anyway, I started off with a soft body toad while my buddy, with a topwater Hula Popper. This pond has a LOT of vegetation, so you can only use weedless lures. After a few minutes, I caught a solid tararira. I was hopping the toad on top of all the vegetation, and when it dropped in a clear area, BAM! I saw the fish pop out out of nowhere and grab the bait. It just sat there for a few seconds, so I set the hook and got the fish. The next one was caught using a Havoc Pit Boss sightseeing. The water was clear, so we could spot a few of them. My friend caught 2 using a Brush Hog. The last fish was caught like the first one, and it weighted 1.4kg (3.08lb). On my most recent trip, I went to the "Laguna Kakel Huincul" with my parents. We only stayed for 2 hours, but I got a fish on the toad using the same method as before and missed another bite using the Pit Boss. Funny thing is that my mom was messing around with a chatterbait when she got a bite. She got so scared that she almost threw my rod+reel lol. Thankfully she didn't, but of course, she lost the fish... Sorry about the long post lol. Next time, we might target "dorados" as well, so I will let you know how that goes. If anyone has experience fishing these 2 species, any tip would be appreciated.
  23. Just checked my email and noticed that Biospawn has a 35% off sale. I've never tried their products, but just a heads up if someone else is interested.
  24. I grew up using 2 piece rods, and I recently started using a 1 piece casting rod. I haven't noticed any difference in performance, but I always double check the connecting point of my 2 piece rods just in case. I still prefer the 2 piece rods since they are more comfortable to carry around.
  25. You are so lucky lol. I just stopped by Walmart but no deals...
