  1. Since I can't go fishing that much, I might as well collect reels and maybe some rods from now on lol. My newest additions: 1. Daiwa SV103H. It matches perfectly with the Tatula rod (color wise). 2. Shimano 15 Metanium DC HG. This one will go to my grandfather when I visit him. 3. Daiwa Zillion J-Dream 7.9 RH. I won this one on an auction in Buyee for 23000 yen a few weeks ago. It's still in excellent conditon from how it looks like (no scratches at all). I might get a Megabass rod for the J-Dream. I was thinking of the Orochi XX DSR or Tour Versatile, but not sure yet.
  2. Since you are familiar with Abu Garcia's rod, the Veritas and Vendetta should be great options for you, and they are within your price range. https://www.amazon.com/Abu-Garcia-Veritas-Casting-6-Feet-9-Inch/dp/B00OM9N8T0 I had the 1st Gen Veritas, and it was more than sensitive enough. I think the Vendetta is available as a 2 piece rod in the 6'6" lenght, but j have no experience with it.
  3. How much are you willing to spend? What are you planning on using it for? I did some research for 2-piece casting rods before. Under $100, there is the Abu Garcia Veritas (I think 6'9" MH), but it felt too stiff for me. Above $100, you have Major Craft, Shimano Zodias. The one that Hogsticker recommended me before is the following and looks really nice: https://www.amazon.com/Major-Craft-MXC-692MH-piece-MODEL/dp/B00JLADW64/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1465927705&sr=8-1&keywords=Major+Craft+Ms-x Keep an eye on it if it's within your budget since I've seen the price drop all the way down to $220. Above $200 and at around $300, you have the new Poison Adrena available in 2 pieces.
  4. Yes, I did. Smoother, less issues with the thumb bar, but I still would get backlashes. I would have to sacrifice distance to prevent that. I love Abu Garcia's round reels however. I have the C3 6501 that I use in Argentina, and it's awesome.
  5. The Revo SX (3rd gen) was my first baitcaster. Like you, I had many backlashes, but that was understandable since I was a beginner. Once I got it down, I could cast well but not too far. A year later, I tried many reels like the Tatula type R, Lew's Pro G, Shimano Aldebaran, Metanium. I barely had backlashes (les than 5 between all of them), and I could cast really far. I came back to the Revo SX, and the backlashes came back. The thumb bar gets stuck a lot too, so from my personal experience, I stay away from Abu Garcia (except the round reels).
  6. We will leave early, but do you know any good spots to fish from shore? I read that the marina area is good, but I think it opens at 7AM. Any tips on fishing techniques would be greatly appreciated as well.
  7. Not sure, but the water color was pretty green. We were fishing from shore, next to some boat ramps/docks from 9-10:30AM. We had to leave because it was getting really hot, and my grandfather was already exhausted.
  8. I bought him a decent fishing combo and a watch with a large screen due to his poor vision instead. I will try looking for a guide though, we got skunked yesterday at Elsinore. Thanks, I gave then a call, and they recommended Eric Sanders. Hope he has time tomorrow or Saturday morning. Unfortunately, we are staying at my uncle's place, and he doesn't know anyone in that area... thanks for the suggestion though!
  9. I just took Jetblue yesterday, and they allowed me to take my 2-piece rod as a carry-on item. The lenght of the rod was around 42 inches, and it fit in the overhead. I think it's fine as long as it doesn't exceed 62 inches for Jetblue.
  10. Does the $5 off code still work for everyone at TW? I tried "FHABAQ214" and "FHABAQ216", but they don't work.
  11. I would recommend the Daiwa Tatula 6'10" MH casting rod. Very light (less than 4oz), sensitive, and great as an all around rod. You can find them for around $100 or less.
  12. Thanks a lot! Lake Perris seems like a better choice since it's closer to the house, but I'll ask if they rent boats.
  13. Hi, I just purchased my flight tickets to visit my grandparents in Riverside, CA since they came all the way from Argentina. My grandfather who introduced me to fishing wants to try bass fishing, but I know nothing about this area. What ponds/lakes would you guys recommend? I would prefer a small pond since my grandfather is 84 years old, so I do not want him to walk or stand all day... I would not mind renting a boat (this would be ideal). Also, if you could tell me what baits work well in Riverside, CA, I would really appreciate it. I owe my grandfather so much, so I want to provide him with the best experience possible. Of course, just hanging out with him is the best part, but I also want him to catch a bass. I want to get him a 15 Metanium DC as well, so he can try one of the most advanced reels (he loves technological stuff), but they just told me about their arrival a few days ago, so not much time left tbh. If anyone knows where I could get one to arrive within next week (Monday/Tuesday), that would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks in advance.
  14. Thanks, I looked at a few models, but I did not know much about Major Craft. There were a bunch of models too, so not sure which one is better either.
  15. I didn't know about how the Expride 2 piece rod was divided... that might be an issue since it's going to be longer than most 2 piece rods when separated.
  16. I have a 2 piece Zodias ML, which is a pretty nice rod, but I like to have different brands and models. I didn't know they had the Cronos in 2 piece rods, I will check those out. Thanks.
  17. Hey guys, I'm thinking about selling my NRX803C and Daiwa Tatula casting rods to get a 2 piece casting rod. It's much easier for me to travel around with a 2 piece rod, especially for a bank fisherman like me. I'm looking for an all round rod, mainly jigs and Texas rigs, so sensitivity is key. Also, if it weights less than 5oz, it would be awesome. In terms of lenght, anything from 6'8" to 7'3" is fine. So far, I was thinking about a *** *** Black 7'1" MH, Shimano Expride 7'3" MH, and Megabass Hyuga 6'11" MH. I would like to keep the price under $250, but if a rod like the Poison Adrena 2 pieces is worth the price, I might consider it. What 2 piece rods would you guys recommend? Feel free to recommend other rods besides the ones I mentioned. I'm open to other options as well. Thanks in advance.
  18. Thanks a lot! I will take a look at both hiking options and discuss them with my friends.
  19. Hey guys, My friends and I are trying to go hiking around Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Maine, but we would also like the area to have a pond, lake, or river where we can all fish. Do you guys know any place where this is feasible? Thanks in advance!
  20. Caught 2 smallies two days ago at the Charles River Esplanade. Another fisherman got 2 smallies as well, one being pretty decent. I also caught a few largemouth bass with bloody tail, which I guess it means they finished spawning.
  21. I went to Jamaica Pond today. There were a few beds, most of them empty. Only 3 had fish (males) and on 2 of them, there were female bass close by. I managed to hook one of the females, which weighted a little over 4.5lbs.
  22. It balances right where the hook keeper is. It was hard to balance it with my finger
  23. Right now, the Charles River Esplanade (storrow lagoons) is your best bet. I've been catching quality bass every time I went there for the past 5 days. JP is great during the Summer from my experience, and the Brookline Reservoir has quality bass, but you have to work hard for it. Even the Fenway Fens (Muddy River) has decent bass during the Summer.
  24. Just came back from the Charles River. I saw around 5 bass on their beds, there's a lot of activity going on
  25. I used it again yesterday and caught a 3lb bass. Even a crappie went for the Whopper Plopper
