  1. WOW what a terrific job you are doing. Looks look it is going to have a brand new like. I know I shared my friend Ed's progress on his project. He has finished it up except some more cosmetics which he will finish in the spring. It is completely solid and dry, no leaks and the framing and decks are done. He has been using it since mid August. Check out his latest pics http://www.*/bass-fishing-forum/index.php?topic=130307.100 By spring you will have her all ready and you and dad can get some big ones. Thanks for posting some updates. When you are all done do not forget to throw a backyard party. You need to treat dad and your neighbor to some nice steaks, roll up some potatoes in foil and add a few ears pieces of fresh corn on the cob. The trick is to start the potatoes early then throw on the steaks. Wrap the ears of corn in aluminum foil with some real butter and some Old Bay Seasoning. I know you may not use that seasoning but you need to get some authentic McCormick Seasoning's Old Bay. If you need me to I will ship you some from here. I lay the potatoes and corn on my top rack and cook all of it with the lid closed. When you turn the steaks (about every 5 to 20 minutes roll the corn over. When it is done you are in for a superb dinner treat. You will not want to boil corn again. To spice it up throw on some skewers of shrimp, peppers and onion pieces. Enjoy!!!! By the way I had more surgery on my toe a few weeks ago and am hoping to go back to work soon. My wife had pulled a promo sticker off a UTZ brand bag of Chips. There was a number and promo website on the rear. They were running a promo with the Baltimore Ravens, our football team. They were giving away Ravens merchandise. We did not win the backpacks or drink holders etc. Instead we won airfare for two on Southwest Airlines, 2 nights hotel accommodations at the Dallas Fort Worth Embassy Suites, tickets for a special tailgate party and two tickets to the football game between the Ravens and the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas the weekend before Thanksgiving. We could not believe it when they called. We were two of 12 winners, it sooo cool.
  2. Over the years I have been lucky to meet other anglers that shared their knowledge and experience with me. I enjoy doing the same. One thing about rods and reels is specs only go so far. It is a hands on thing really. You have to cast a few to decide what you like and what they will do for you. My arsenal has changed and morphed over 45 years, if I can help someone key in on what they like. I can help them not make the mistakes we all make to begin with. My wife and I have been addicted to this hobby for decades, and yes the bait monkey and his cousin the equipment monkey have regularly stopped by. I own some $300 G Loomis spinning rods which are fantastic, and then right next to them are some very sensitive rods I fish with just as often and they cost less than 1/4 of that price. There are lots of good rods at reasonable costs, but you need someone to help you weed through the junk sometimes. I find most equipment is like that. In this case, we happen to be located close enough to get together. I would rather be taking him out on my boat and we could accomplish the task even easier, with a few interruptions of course. It is fall striper feeding time here on the Chesapeake Bay. Unfortunately, I am recovering from some foot issues, so casting will have to do. Darn, those interruptions taste so good! LOL
  3. I have a Bass Pro Extreme 6 foot medium light, moderate action baitcaster that I love. The specs on it said as 1/16 to 1/2. I use it with a Daiwa Tatula CT. Its main purpose for me is to throw weightless as well as lightly weighted (belly weighted) swimbait hooks with Reaction Innovation Skinny Dippers and the smaller size Little Dippers. That rig is amazing in and around docks. With no weight the fish act sorta like they do with a weightless Senco. They just come up and eat them. I have it spooled up with Sufix 832 braid in 10 pound test and use a short 2 foot leader made either of P Line CXX in 8 pound or the same size of AbrazX. That stuff has handled some big bass and rough surfaces like pilings, rebar. concrete etc.
  4. Hello CrustMono. Here is a pic of what i think you have. They supply most of their batteries with dual posts. You should be able to install the ring end terminals onto the threaded posts on the battery. If they are not the right size go to your local auto parts store and purchase some that will fit both your wire coming from the trolling motor and the battery post. You can cut off the old ones and crimp on the new ones. Another option is this battery terminal adapter. It makes it easy to wire extra things to your battery neatly. .
  5. Bluebasser86 you are a SUPER DAD!!!! I have a friend that grew up here in MD on Chesapeake Bay waterfront property. His dad and grandpa did the same with him. Now he is a dad and all summer long he has been taking his son out on longer and longer trips to fish for panfish, bass and snakeheads on the Potomac River. He has also been teaching him how to drive a 20 foot Ranger. Two weeks ago he brought him and another friend back to his old stomping grounds. Between the 3 of them they caught 120 stripers and his son out fished them both, at least that is what his son said. He refused to let dad do anything this time, he cast his rattle trap and he reeled in his fish. Bryan was one super proud papa!! These moments are priceless, no money can buy them Congrats , tcbass see what you have too look forward to. One thing ponds and bank fishing can do for you is allow you to make your early trips into some fishing, some ball play, a family pick nick etc. Nothing fancy, cook a dog on the grill or pick up a bucket of chicken and some good desserts, like his favorite flavored popsicle. Lots of fun and less risk of him falling in the water. No guarantee he won't jump in the water, but that is a different thing. Boys will be boys!
  6. Nice I like your custom rig! I have a friend that goes by Kris on here. He lives in Westminster. If you stop in the new Autozone ask for Ed some time. We are both fishing and amatuer radio buddies. Well I would meet you out there except, I have to admit there are two addicts that live in my house. I am sure glad it is legal to be a fishing addict! LOL Anyway i want to have my entire rod and reel selection at my disposal as we go over tackle. They will not all fit in my truck. Anyway i believe a good arsenal can be putt together with just 4 rods, but which four rods depends on what you favorite techniques and where you fish are. Anyway send me an e-mail so I can give you my cell number. We can do some casting right in my neighborhood, we happen to have a nice open grass field.
  7. What type of waters do you fish? Where do you live? First I have owned 11 boats and have made some of those changes do to what type of water I could fish. Obviously I would keep your current boat and not fish the little fela for about 4 years. Then I would start by finding a good pond to start out with. Ponds have good bluegill, perch, bass and catfish to teach him on first. River banks on small creeks and rivers are almost as good to learn on. When he gets that part down then I would consider if a Lund style boat would work for you. They handle rougher water and yes you benefit from the higher sides. Even Ranger, Skeeter, and others make boats they call walleye boats and that would have almost all of the benefits of your bass boat and yet not look like a ski boat. I have to admit though the nicest boat I have ever owned was my ProCraft 20 foot fish n ski boat. Also look at the new bass boat Lund brought out this year, I have heard good things about it. It does have the heart of a Lund and their innovations as well..
  8. Welcome to the site. My wife and I used to keep a camper down your way on Port Tobacco River. Whenever you want we can talk fishing down there and maybe get you to come join me fishing up here in Baltimore.
  9. Welcome again Mike. Love that part of PA. We need to talk PA and MD fishing some time.
  10. Send me an e-mail at fishnkamp@comcast.net . I am located just a few minutes from Martin State Airport and the Gunpowder State Park/ Dundee Creek Marina.
  11. Daiwa Tatulas and Tatula CTs are available for that money if you go to most online sources. I own a bunch of Daiwa Tatula, Tatula Type Rs and tatula CTs( the newest and smaller version) and I have paid between $100 and $130. They retail for $130 to $199 normally. They are just great workhorses. the T wing does help with casting distance and their drags are really smooth. Most of the gear ratios are available left an right handed in the different models..
  12. I fish both colors in murky tidal water and I fish them both in deep clear water. I do usually use a 4 foot leader on them in clear deep akes, otherwise I see no real difference. On spinning gear I love using the Berkley Fireline, both original and fused. i use it in their lime color, sometimes with and sometime without the leader. I use 10# P Line CXX for leares. I prefer to use Suffix 832 or Power Pro Spectra braid on baitcasters.
  13. MD Rookie where do you live? I am located in Baltimore MD. If you are interested, we could meet up and go through you equipment in person. You could get a chance to throw some of mine. Then we can see what you like or prefer and could better put together a plan to upgrade your arsenal. Perhaps some of yours reels can be brought back to life with a simple cleaning and lubing. If so there is a really good reel repair service located nearby. If your reels are serviceable, then perhaps you can pick a couple of other rods to pair them with to reshape your arsenal. And then we could better understand what type of a new rig would help you the most. I own some very expensive rods, but also regularly use some inexpensive rods as well. First I would definitely keep the two UL combos as is and use them for trout and panfish. The 6'6" spinning combo has a terrific reel on it. I would need to cast that rod to see how it plays. Not all rod makers spec their rods the same. If it plays more like a 6'6" medium it is perfect for lots of light weight plastics, and other goodies. If not, I have a couple of really inexpensive rod choices in mind to make that a major weapon in your line up. You will be able to throw some of those here as well. If the Black Max feels " okay" to me I would have it professionally serviced. Then it would go on either the Bionic Blade 6 MH or the 6 foot Synergy, The Okuma would go on the other. The Bionic would handle most single hook baits above 1/4 ounce like worms, jigs, creature baits, spinnerbaits, etc. The Synergy, since it is more of a medium slower action rod will serve better as a treble hook rod. Once we play with them, toss some actual baits etc, then we can identify what you like and decide what type of rod and reel makes the most sense to purchase to round out your arsenal. As for the left hand right hand reels that is normal. Heck I have come to use all of my spinning reels with the handle on the left, as most anglers do. All of my baitcaster that are used to chuck and wind lures. like crankbaits, spinnerbaits and rattle traps, are right handed and all of my baitcasters used for jerkbaits, topwaters, jigs, worms etc, just about anything you impart action yourself well they are all left handed. I have been fishing MD and PA waters for 40 years. Lets talk some fishing. have you ever fished any of the Columbia lakes, Black Hills regional Park ( down near Gaithersburg,) Centennial Lake (Howard CO) Piney Run Lake (Carroll CO.) or lakes like Tuckaho Lake on the Eastern Shore. Another favorite of my wife is Shad Landing (Pocomoke River) near Salisbury MD. All of these are great water to use your canoe and we have fished them from a canoe, several jons and some bass boats. There is a great stretch of the Susquehanna river we used to fish. It is perfect for your canoe, has a company that, for a small fee, will drive you up and dump you in and you paddle back to their campground. Lots of good wading areas along that run, along with good smallies.
  14. Last April I drove a brand new Phoenix, give them a ride they are really nice. I did get rides in a Nitro, Skeeter and Triton at a Bass Masters Elite Series event as well. Of those, the Skeeter seemed to ride best of those. Overall the Phoenix rode best to me, but I liked the SHO engine best
  15. Jackson T what is your budget
  16. I have a fantastic rod builder that i use and he is very reasonable. Check out Toms Custom Rods. He is located here in MD but has shipped all over as well. He will help you pick the right rod blank, wraps, guides, reel seat etc. Here is his website http://www.tomscustomrods.com/custom-rods-galley Check out some of these "Themed" custom rods He has built beautiful rods for friends of mine for over 30 years. For years I have loved G Loomis rods. I own a bunch. Because I broke one I had to accept a new on,e which is my first new rod from them in over 6 years. It is the first one since Shimano took over. I almost threw up. All cheap plastic on an IMX rod. The reel kept loosening up. Tom striped the garbage seat plastic hood and nut off, We made it a split grip choosing the new stylish Winn grips and installed a Comfort Grip reel seat from American Tackle. The rod looks, feels and fishes terrific. I liked it so much I had him redo another Loomis that still had the old components I liked. Here is the pics If you ever held rod with a Comfort spinning reel seat then you know the reel sorta melts in your hand and they become one. This spring I had just gotten this JR721 done and spent at least 6 hours a day fishing Ned Rigs on it while vacationing on Dale Hollow. The big females had just come off the beds and were in a real bad mood. Small jigs and Ned rigs were about all that worked for those fish. They were sitting in about 15 feet of water on main lake grass beds. Most averaged 6 pounds and were both smallies and largies.
  17. What is your budget and would a similar Lowe or Alunacraft etc. work? I found 1 in your area it is a 2015. Look here http://centralmich.craigslist.org/boa/5800764449.html I found another in Chesterfield http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/boa/5789162357.html I have found several 17 foot Trackers look here http://toledo.craigslist.org/boa/5823718254.html or http://toledo.craigslist.org/boa/5823718254.html These I found in ten minutes on Craigslist. To find your boat you really gave to keep looking everyday for a while. Good Luck.
  18. I used to live near Duncannon Pa. I loved fishing in the fall. Since I shared my wife's so story I will give you a little idea for yours. Go over to Gander Mountain in York. They have some of the best prices on combos ( I compared Dicks, Cabelas. Bass Pro and a few online places as well ) I would recommend you pick out one of the Shakespeare Agility Spinning rod combos, either a 5 foot ultra light or a 6 foot medium. I own two, but they are older models we bought while on vacation, so put them in your hand and play with them. That will run you about $40 You could also go with the tried and true Zebco 33 or 202 combo.;The most popular rod and reels ever sold I bet was the Zebco 33 followed the Zebco 202 Mithell 300. .Make up a small tackle box that includes some bobbers, pinch on weights, a pack of small swivels and some decent hooks. Take her out to the closest ponds, small lake or river bank. Both of you try catching some good sized bluegill, crappie and bass. That is how you will get her interested in this hobby and maybe she will end up like my wife, addicted to it. The other thing that may happen is you may come home with dinner. Also do not be surprised if ole whiskers shows up. They are eating real good right now. Man enjoy yourself this is a great hobby. Oh yea, halla is right! The old standby, a Rapala gold with black back as well as a silver with black back floater/diver still catches a ton of fish. They trow best on spinning gear.
  19. Go check out the new rig and bring her home!
  20. I have tried alot of lines over the years. I keep going back to Berkley Original or fused Fireline and add either a fluoro or P lne cxx leader when needed.. Another line to try is P Line Halo, but that line has some memory so never go above 8 pound on a 3000 sized spinning reel. I have one suggestion. I drop my filler spool in hot water just before spooling my reel it seems to help. I also add line conditioner while spooling. Then just give it a night and it just seems to play real nice.
  21. Did you need the two piece rod?
  22. Go measure your garage opening carefully. My research says 91 inch width however go measure the boat. Most 28 to 19 footers are going to be at least 91 wide. I hope it works out they are reaaly nice rigs.
  23. Fishin' fool the brand does not matter except I do like the bigger bodied grubs like the Zoom fat albert and the Kalins. Kalin made a smoke salt & peper with red flake that my wife kills them on. It was discontinued so I had to search high and low to fill her supply up while I could get them. I now own almost 600 of the Kalins and an almost look alike from Yamamoto. They were scavenged from 9 different warehouses and online suppliers throughout the US including everything Uncle Josh could find for us. When we run out she is going to have me get them custom made. The sacrifices I make for my wife LOL Thanks to her we have owned 11 boats during our almost 40 years of fishing dating and marraige. I am a blessed man, thank god I got her addicted to smallies!!! Here is the ultimate and it is a true story, we dated all through high school and college and we have been married over 28 years. For our 20th anniversary I asked her if she would rather have a diamond necklace or another G Loomis rod. She still fishes her G Loomis SJR 721 rod and guess what rod she throws her grubs on.
  24. Another great lure to add to your stuff is a Kalins Lunker Grubs in the 5 inch. My wife and I fish in MD, PA, VA, TN, and KY and there is always a grub tied onto one of her rods. We like the 5 inch size and I would start out with the bluegill. watermellon seed red flake and white are good colors. And look at Bass Pro for their Perfect worm hook. We use these with the 1/8 to 1/4 weight and just match the size hook to the bait. She has caught tons of panfish, large and smallmouth as well as stripers and catfish, so almost everything likes them.
