  1. I have the predecessor to it the Powell Max 683 matched up with a Diawa Tatula 6.3-1. Man that is the most versatile rod I own. I got it to pitch jigs around docks. I usually have 12 rods under my deck (not always the same 12 depending on the type of waters I am going to fish) but somehow that rig always ends up on the top deck.
  2. What is that rod a Powell Max3D? It looks good on it.
  3. Have you looked at the Irod Genesis II line of spinning rods? Also Powell has some really nice light rods as well in both the Powell Max3d as well as the Inferno line. I have had all 3 in my hand at a local shop. I own one of the Powell casting rods as well as 2 Irods. I paired the heavier Irod Genesis II spinning rod with a Shimano Symetre reel and youu can not even believe how light that combo is.
  4. My statement about zeroing the magnetic brake first was if it is set too high initially it can affect the correct spool tension setting As you said you adjust the spool tension knob for the correct drop speed of the lure. If the tension knob is set to just remove side play in the spool then the break is adjusted correctly maximum distance can be achieved.
  5. Are you feeling like the kid in a candy store yet?
  6. Check your mail Also the boat looks pretty decent and I agree just expect things like batteries and electronics will get replaced if not now soon. When you get to test run it try everything check gauges, switches, check the anchor and front lights, livewell pumps this checks for wiring problems. Remove the plug or install it yourself then after running the boat pull it and check there is no water coming out. This checks for both hull and plumbing hose leaks. Often it could be just a split or dry rotted hose or could be more serious like hull issues.
  7. I used to run a proCraft 20 foot fish and ski. It had a deep vee and once you run a full windshield boat you get real comfortable that way. If there is an Alumacraft dealer anywhere near you check them out as well. Lund is probably the Cadillac of these type boat though.
  8. If the braid won't hold up *(and it does here on the Susquehanna River that is all rock) then try my other suggestion either PLine CXX which is terribly strong or go to the Halo 17 pound test. That is almost impossible to cut through.
  9. Check you e-mail I sent you a direct message
  10. The poster above me has the right idea. Before you do a lot remove the line going from your fuel tank to the primer ball. Get a couple of gallons of fresh fuel. Add a 1/2 of a can of SeaFoam liquid (also comes in a spray can) fuel treatment to the gas can. run your water hose up to the engine with ear muffs and start the engine while running from the gas can. Your engine is like my 75hp 2 stroke. I always need to go into fast idle and choke it a bit. For my throttle control box I push in the center of my throttle lever push up on the handle lever and push if forwards. other control boxes have a lever you pull up on to advance the idle up. Do not rev the engine high as it can hurt the motor while running on a garden hose. i advance it till it runs about 1500 although you may need to push it a bit while the motor coughs and smokes. Run a good bit of the fuel out of the can. Shut ti down and pour the rest into the gas tank. Add the rest of the SeaFoam to the tank in fact I would run a second can also. There are some good videos on Youtube about this. Now the fuel lines should be replaced as the ethanol fuel is damaging the old style lines. Get the new line from your nearest dealer. I would also replace the fuel ball due to age. I would replace it with either a Merc of Johnson factory model. Some aftermarket ones are not working out well. I would do that first since you will need to disconnect the line anyway.
  11. I would try it if it does not wok try P Line CXX in moss green in 6 or 8 pound test. Just after you spool it drop the spool in hot water for a bit. It seems to help the line get set to the spool. Helps avoid line issues. Cxx is really tough line. In tests 10 pound usually breaks around 20 pounds.
  12. Your reel and my Diawas ( 5 Tatula and Tatula Type rs) work with the same system basically. Zero out you Mag force magnetic break on the side( an important first step) Now loosen the cast control knob until the spool can be moved side to side. Now slowly tighten that knob until the spool no longer has side to side play. Start with the break system on full and cast your bait. Next back it off a bit at a time. You will quickly determine how loose that cast control can be by the line, if it starts to backlash tighten slightly. From there just thebreaks will be changed when lures are changed.
  13. The problem is your line choice on the main line. Fish braid as a main line. Something like Power Pro in 30 or 40 pound test. The diameter is very thin 30 pound is the same diameter as 8 pound mono. Now for a leader go to PLine CXX moss green in 10 pound or 12 pound. Keep in mind CXX is extremely strong. Iin tests 10 pound CXX moss green breaks closer to 20 pounds. The fish will not care about the braid and it will hold up. Another option is to go to P Line Halo in 17 pound test, but I would use the braid.
  14. Pull the battery and go to Battery Warehouse, AutoZone etc. They will check it free. Just be sure to replace it with a marine starting battery. Those are built differently so absorb the shock of marine use.
  15. Did you check battery voltage? If you have access to a battery tester try it and see if maybe a cell has gone bad. The noise may have come from the starter because of low battery current available. If no teter is available the hook up a volt ohm meter to the battery. Watch the meter when you try to crank the motor. If it drops below 12 volts then look at replacing the battery. Your charger should not be plugged in all of the time (sorry I did not understand if that is what you meant when you said the batteries were connected the entire time) Mine are always wired to it but I only occasionally plug it in during the off season, and always recharge the batteries upon returning from boating. If a cell had gone bad in your starting battery no jump starting charger will make a difference since the internal connections from one cell to another are compromised. On board chargers rarely cause the problem. If the battery is bad closely check the others.
  16. That Tatula will work really nice on that Veritas. I was really impressed by my 7 foot Mh Veritas paired with the 8-1 Tatula R. The T wing is no gimmick. When it drops down the line has a much wider opening to go thru so there is less friction and it results in nice long casts. Now all you need is tie on a frog!! Good Luck and let us know how it works out.
  17. Again you did not mention a budget but one person suggested a Falcon Buccoo. For an inexpensive option WalMart often sells the Falcon Buccoo trapmaster which is a 7 foot Medium moderate rod that spec 1/4 to 3/4. Tackle Warehouse sells that rod for $109. I got mine at Wal Mart for about $40 on sale two years ago. I fish rattle traps, small to mid sized crankbaits and it could easily handle some spinnerbaits or chatterbaits.
  18. Just so you know (as I found out) all of the Veritas rods run heavier than the rod calls for it to do. What I mean is if it say it is Medium it runs closer to Med-mh, a MH really runs closer to a hvy. Now the lure ratings seem to be correct. Be aware also some of my friends have had to replace a few guides on their Veritas as sometimes the rings pop out. I have fished mine hard and that has not happened to me. I like my choice of the 7 foot MH as my frog rod. I do own several of the Powells for other techniques and they make a really nice lite rod with good components, and for $150 also check out Irod Genesis II rods. I own several of those and they have a Fred's Magic stick which might be perfect for you as well. All of those are available at Tackle Warehouse. I am lucky though, a new tackle store opened up here in MD and carries all of these as well ass Dobyns and others. I have two friends fishing Fred's Magic stick and love em.
  19. i own two original series Veritas rods. I bought the 7 foot heavy first intending to use it for frogs. It was a bit too stiff but makes a great deep jig rod. Next I picked up the 7 foot MH which I am really pleased with for frogs. I matched it up with a Diawa Tatula Type R in 8-1. I got both of these from Dicks when the Veritas 2 were coming out. They blew the originals out for $25.00. The rod you ask about is a 7'6" medium heavy fast action. It is rated for 12 to25 #line and lures 3/8 to 11/4. They make a Veritas frog rod that is also 7'6" rated for 3/8 to 11/4 and 12 to 25 #line. Thar rod says medium heavy medium action and its description says it has a soft tip for throwing the frog a good distance. I think either one will work, but it tells me Abu thought a slower action was better when frogging. Having said that my 7 footMH almost specs the same as the non frog rod so it is personal preference. For that kind of money have you looked at a Powell Inferno 725 or a Powell Max3D 736. They are both really nice rods and could handle both the frogs and big jigs.
  20. iabass the 190 would be nice set up as we both have said. Tracker says a 190 with the 4 stroke 115 will do 45 which if fast enough. Interesting though they list speeds for that boat with a 9.9, 25 a 90 and for the boat with a 115, all 4 strokes. However they do not list the speed the boat will do with the standard engine the 2 stroke 115 pro xs.
  21. Ido not trust the hull on the 195. That is a newer model and they have had some transom cracking, so I would avoid it, although I am sure they will work out the bugs. The hull on the 195 is the same length just wider both the top and bottom. The bottom is 6 inches wider, top is 9 inches. For 25 extra horses and $5000 no thanks. There are tons of 190s out there and they have proven to be bulletproof . My choice would be to get the 190 with the 4 stroke 115, upgrade the electronics at both front and console, have them networked together and upgrade the trolling motor to a 24 volt system. I would add the on board charger as well. These are upgrades that will give you a real nice capable fishing machine. I did all of those things to my Lowe before I purchased it. I also added a few more items but keep in mind it was our 11th boat so I know what I like. If it were me I might give up the cell phone holder area and see if they could mount a water pressure gauge there. I think it would be worth it. I think it is important to monitor that. Otherwise, I could catch a lot of fish on that boat. During our trip to Dale Hollow we fished out of our guides 20 foot Stratos for a day . It had a 225 Evinrude and could run in the mid 70's. There was a tournament going on and one of his best friends was fishing in it. At one point we were both fishing down along a 3 mile stretch of grass flat. We outfished his buddy 12 fish to 3 along that area. The fact we could go faster than his buddy meant nothing to these results. They both know the lake well also. The difference was we had 2 HDS8 fishfinders with side and down imaging. We could stay 40 feet off the expected fish holding areas putting along at 4 mph and watch for fish on the side image. We would scan along, mark fish and make a waypoint on them. Next we would turn off the big engine and using the trolling motor quietly go back and catch them. Here is where the networking thing come into play. When Bobby made a waypoint at the console it automatically made it on the unit up front as well. Right now I have one Lowrance and one Hummingbird. My console unit I sold (it was a Humminbird 5 inch unit) I determined it was too small so I replaced it with what is now a Lowrance Hook7. To get chirp, side imaging and down imaging you had to go to the HDS units. Now the 7 Elite TI is available and so when the budget allows me I will move my Elite7 to the front deck then add an Elite7TI to the console and network them..Also I will add the external gps antenna so things will work a little nicer. For the rest of that week I suffered without the eyes Bobby had. We caught some great fish in fact my average size smallie was 5 pounds. But I had to do like Bobby's buddy and fish the entire grass flats in and out from shore out to the 30 foot drop areas. It took lots of time compared to putting along and watching the screen. Obviously if money was no object i would run two HDS12s but I live in the real world. Good Luck getting a new boat is fun.
  22. I think it would be best to find someone who works on reels professionally. Have it gone through. Check with a quality local tackle shop often they know someone locally and you would not have to ship it out.
  23. The veritas are that way all across the line. That is not true of the Ike series rods. That series is a group of 15 different technique specific length and actions. What they say they are they are.
  24. The Nitro Z-18 is a fine bot. I got to test run one of the Phoenix 618''s with a 150 ProXS on Dale Hollow back in April. That boat has the softest ride and basically from the front deck back to the drivers area is the same as their larger 19's. Take a very close look at them. A 618 is in your budget and it runs really well.
