  1. Fast Action does the trick. My ideal jig rod would probably be MH/F 7'1-7'3
  2. Did you leave the only review on TW? Lol
  3. Yeah me too, I'm interested in that 7'6 crankin' rod. Don't want to regret $140 though. If I don't get that I think I'll end up w/ the new St. Croix Mojo Bass Big Crankster. Tackle Tour said they should have a review up by spring time.
  4. So what'd everyone get on Black Friday!? Let's just say I got a free t-shirt from TW lol
  5. Izorline xxx, it's exceeded my expectations. I've used the 20lb test (a little too thick) and the 12lb test. 12 breaks around 18. I got some yo zuri hybrid in 6lb test for some finesse stuff and it was pretty stretchy so I think I'll stick with xxx.
  6. I use I izorline and I love it so far. Use it on my jig rod as well as my squarebill/trap rod. $16 for 1100 yards of awesome line, can't complain about that. It's reall abrasion resistant as well, a lot of pike in Wisconsin and it holds up well. It's also a lot more limp than I thought.
  7. Awesome, nice fish! what size were you using and was it the fat?
  8. I have two Helios Tcs reels (6.6/7.3:1) and they're my favorite reels. The breaking system can be a little cumbersome the first few times because you have to take off the faceplate but you get use to it. Other than that they cast extremely far, palm well, and they're really light.
  9. You can find Daiwa tatulas for $100 and get 15/20 off with a coupon.
  10. Green fish tackle has some nice finesse jigs. All their jigs are wire tied and have living rubber.
  11. Great info! my range of baits would be from 3xd-6xd size baits, would a 7'6 MH/moderate action be too much or too little rod those?
  12. Thanks for the input guys! I have a 6'9 MH/MF Okuma TCS rod that I use for almost everything like traps, squarebills, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits. I didn't even think about using this for medium divers, I figured it would be to short. Would that work? Money isn't necessarily the issue just space (and girlfriend lol) that's why I wanted to try and limit it to one all purpose setup to round out my collection. 6'9 MH/MF Casting - traps, squarebills, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits 7' M/F Spinning - Finesse (dropshot, shakey head, etc..) 7' M/F Casting - Topwater/Jerkbait 7'3 MH/F Casting - Jig, t-rigs 7'6 H/MF Casting - Frogs/ Flipping & Punching
  13. 7'6 MH/Moderate is what I would pick if I had to decide right now. I think the biggest thing I would throw is a 1oz 6xd or a DD22. I noticed a lot of deep cranking rods are Moderate-Fast, what's the reason you'd prefer that rather than a moderate?
  14. I just got really into fishing this past year and I don't have a dedicated crankbait rod. I would like to use it for Medium/Deep divers. What are some good specs for a rod that can handle both of these? (ex: Power, length, taper) Edit: Something that can accommodate 3xd-6xd, DD22, and alike
  15. I think it's just the fact you have limited space in a kayak and a long rod is just more cumbersome.
  16. I picked up some McSticks recently and was going to give jerkbaits a try for the first time. I just need to decide on what size line, I think I'm going with Sunline Super Natural. I'd like to use it for both jerkbaits and topwater. Recommendations?
  17. I plan on spending that much Black Friday on tackle warehouse. Every time I think of something I "need" I write it down in my phone. Been working a little overtime so I can buy my Christmas wish list haha
  18. This happens every time I'm fishing a frog. Then I instinctively whip the rod back too fast and miss the hook set
  19. I usually look on TW to see the retail price. Plus they usually have the lowest price. Then I head to a place like Amazon to get the really good deals. There's lots of resources online. You should always check for deals before pulling the trigger on something.
  20. The okuma 7' M+/MF Helios tcs might be up your alley. It's a crankbait/jerkbait rod. Plus you can find good deals on them, $159 retail but you can find them for $100. Edit: Actually the 6'9 MH/MF Helios tcs is what I use for all of these. It has a soft tip for the treble hooks but sturdy enough to rip traps And jerkbaits.
  21. I’ve been reading up on deep cranking rods as well. The consensus seems to be the longer the better. It’ll help cast those cranks far and it will keep them in the strike zone longer. The action on the other hand seems like personal preference. Most people like Medium-Heavy with a Mod to Mod-Fast action to prevent them from ripping the treble hooks out. Some pros like Dudley like a fast tip because it’s more sensitive.
  22. There's a thread about this like a page or 2 back.
  23. Boyd himself uses the 6'6 model. Straight from the horse's mouth. If you look up the article called 5 Simple Ways To Catch Fall Bass by *** Boyd mentions what rod he likes to use.
  24. My current set up is a 7' M/F micro magic w/ 15lb braid. I adjust the leader accordingly. 8-12lb test for shakey heads, senkos, etc straight braid for finesse jigs and then lighter line for drop shot. I use it for all the techniques you listed. I'd go with a medium rather than a MH for finesse stuff.
  25. Does the 4lb seem quite a bit stretchy? The 6lb does.
