  1. Are you thinking what I'm thinking...? Can you say bass call...! ICAST 2019!
  2. I have these from Amazon. They are compound side cutters which easily cut thicker hooks. They are made from regular steel so I keep them in an oiled cloth in it's own Plano stowaway waterproof utility box of the appropriate size. https://www.amazon.com/Titan-Tools-11412-Compound-Diagonal/dp/B000PRWJ52/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1533838379&sr=8-1&keywords=compound+side+cutters
  3. I would suggest finding a presentation that no one else is using. Fly fishing rod and reel? (This would make even catching bluegill fun on the right set up.) Ultra finesse fishing? Carolina rig the smallest most natural worm you can find and dead stick it. Float and fly? Just trying to think outside the box for you...
  4. I've never been so glad we don't have curtain rods.
  5. Heat up a straightened paper clip with a lighter and melt a channel as deep as you want the nail. If you can push it all the way into the head I have been experimenting with lighting the tip of the worm and let it burn for a second or two. It will melt the hole closed.
  6. I keep mine on a lanyard around my neck along with the Boomerang tool etc... https://www.amazon.com/UEETEK-Fishing-Hook-Sharpener-Accessory/dp/B01HB7AXKQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1533248093&sr=8-4&keywords=fish+hook+sharpener
  7. You sent a check to his father. Can you send a letter asking what's going on? Asking him to call you? Send it registered so you know for sure he received it and when.
  8. Tell us what conditions you will be fishing. What color water? Rocks? Brush? Grass? Pads? How deep? Pond? Lake? River? Anything else you can think of....
  9. If it's just surface rust you can clean and paint. If they are truly rusted through and trash you might be able to make something out of pvc.
  10. This is from the Bassmaster website article that explains the circumstances. By Bryan Brasher Back when I was fishing bass tournaments on a regular basis, I couldn’t have imagined running 150 miles by boat. Granted, I wasn’t fishing for $100,000 or representing a long list of sponsors. But even if I had been, I don’t know if I would have had the mental fortitude to run that far, fish for a little while, then turn around and make the run back again. I never considered it seriously enough for the dangers involved to enter my mind. But as Jacob Wheeler proved during last week’s Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Elite at Sabine River presented by Econo Lodge, there are plenty of dangers involved with such a run. Wheeler was making the 150-mile run through Galveston Bay to the Houston area when his boat became lodged on a sandbar. He trimmed the motor up, gave it plenty of gas and tried to get himself moving again, but it didn’t work. Then he got out of the boat himself and tried to push it off the sandbar. It still wouldn’t budge. So finally, he asked his marshal to get out of the boat as well. That did the trick, but it also put Wheeler in violation of Rule C13 that says “Marshals are not allowed to help the pro in any way.” Wheeler self-reported the violation and had his day’s catch disqualified. I think he did the right thing — twice. When I talked with him right after the incident, he said, “Hey, I knew the dangers of making that kind of run — 150 miles through saltwater in an area I’ve never ran before. When you do that, there’s always a chance something like that can happen.” That’s called acceptance. Still, I’ve heard criticism of Wheeler for asking his marshal to exit the boat when he knew it was illegal. But what was he supposed to do? If he had been stuck 10 miles away from the launch site, he could have easily called for help and gone right on fishing. But since he was stuck 110 miles away, he basically had two choices — make the boat lighter or live there. Since he just built a new house in Tennessee, he figured he didn’t want to live on a sandbar in Galveston Bay. I’m guessing his marshal didn’t either. So they made the only decision they could make. Then Wheeler called B.A.S.S. officials and turned himself in. Again, he made the right decision on a day when he needed a good limit to make the cut and earn a check — even though he knew it would probably lead to the disqualification of that day’s catch. The griping hasn’t been reserved for Wheeler. B.A.S.S. has also been criticized for the enforcement of the rule that led to the DQ. Before I get into things like that, I always like to remind people that those kinds of decisions are made inside rooms I’m not even allowed into. B.A.S.S. officials don’t ask for my opinion — and when the decisions are made, I usually find out a day or two before you do. But for the record, I agree wholeheartedly with the rule. I think it should be illegal for a marshal to help an angler — period. If you write that rule vaguely — if you say it’s illegal for a marshal to help an angler in most situations — you’d have some sort of dispute at every event. Think about all of the ways that could be interpreted. Plus, marshals come in all shapes and sizes. Some are 25-year-old marathon runners, while others are 70-year-old guys who limp down the ramp and need help getting in the boat. It’s not ethical or fair for anglers to ask those folks for help — unless you’re stuck on a sandbar and it just can’t be avoided. It’s also not fair to criticize Jacob Wheeler for simply doing the right thing.
  11. You sound exactly like me. Only I'm 51. I've had four back surgeries to alleviate numbness in my left leg from hurt discs. I can sit forever but standing and I'm just like you... fidgeting etc. After the last of my surgeries I was referred to a rehab facility. They personalized a program to help strengthen my core muscles. Along with stretching it really helps. Maybe there is someplace near you. I pay a monthly fee like a gym but there's none of the hassle and posing like at standard gyms. I'm probably the youngest person there lol. If you can't do this find exercises on the internet and do them (with your doctors blessing). My prayers for you.
  12. I've wondered this myself about many leftover spools. This will only work if you have two of the exact same bait casters that are empty. Put all the braid left on the reel you aren't going to use. Then fill it the rest of the way with "backer" only now it's "fronter". Then run it from the first reel to the second and wala... filled to perfection.
  13. @Darren. Thank you for mentioning the issue with not fitting in rod holders. I used this exact item years and years ago and forgot about that aspect of it.

  15. Is J. Francho the next Googan?
  16. Ahhhhh. Got it. That's one of the top three answers on this site... "Did you put backing on before..."
  17. Thanks for posting. Will you please go over the part about "the line being tied too loosely"? What does that mean? Although I am not planning on buying the Curado DC (yet) the information might help others on the forum.
  18. I just bought the Lew's Ned specific rod from Tackle Warehouse (Lew's TP-1 Speed Stick IM8 Spin Rod 6'7" Med Lt). It lists $99.95 but with the 4th of July sale it is $84.99. No tax. Free shipping. Actually almost everything qualifies for the sale so you can get another rod if desired. As I have not received it yet I cannot comment on it but maybe someone else here can.
  19. Heat a paper clip wire and slide it in to make a channel for the weight. I believe you still need super glue but I suppose it depends on the weight.
  20. I think you might be right. I'll try it this weekend.
  21. Interesting idea. Has anyone fished the Neko naked? Heh... at least without an o ring of any kind but fully clothed?
  22. I don't know if Johnson's are the same but to start my "83 Murcury I can choke the motor by pushing the key up or towards the ignition unit. I hear a "chunk" as the solenoid engages the choke then I turn the key to start. I can advance the throttle without putting it into gear by pushing a button at the base of the handle axis. I can then give it more or less gas by moving the handle forward or backward independent of the gears as I'm trying to start. Once warmed up I can move the handle back to idle speed and it will reset the button and put it into gear. Again... I don't know if it is the same on Johnson but maybe someone else can confirm this.
  23. Yes! No elaztech was wasted here...
  24. So it turns out rubber doesn't react well with Elaztech. I made up some Neko rigs for a fishing trip and let them sit for a week before I could use them. I kept throwing off the worm and didn't understand why. When I examined the baits I noticed the o-ring was eating the elaztech. So I found an alternate. I used #5 split rings. Run the hook about half way thru the worm when you slide it under the split ring otherwise dinks can steal the worm.
  25. Try a true penetrating oil and let it sit as long as you can.
