  1. I had green LED's put around the entire perimeter of my boat. They face downward toward the water. They are fantastic! It's like the whole boat is glowing from underneath. Very calming actually. Lures are easy to see when you are reeling them in. They attract bait fish. Bass have struck within feet of the boat so I know they are not scaring the bass at all. In the heat of the summer I'll sometimes drag a Texas rigged worm behind the boat with the trolling motor on low and catch them. Best of all... EVERYONE can see me on the lake. I get questioned all the time about them.
  2. Check that there isn't a a loop in the line hanging off the spool or anything sticking up that would stop line from coming off the spool cleanly.
  3. Thanks for everyone's posts. Interesting and entertaining!
  4. Please describe exactly what your thumb is doing and why while casting a baitcaster. Follow up question. When you want more distance do you loosen the spool tension, brakes or both?
  5. http://www.outdoorlife.com/blogs/wringer/tackle-test-2015-best-spinning-and-baitcasting-reels No personal insight on any of these but they rate the Lew’s Tournament Pro TP300HP Spinning Reel a best buy.
  6. oops. I want my money back from the Evelyn Wood speed reading course I took... sorry guys.
  7. So think about the definition of a bearing.... Notice it doesn't say 18 BALL bearings..... bushings are also bearings.
  8. Thanks offsidewing. Good observations. I didn't know which model to call out. iabass8 I believe you are taking about the older VBS system vs the newer SVS Infinity braking system. Does anyone have a side by side casting comparison from the new Casitas vs Chronarch CI4+ or any first gen SVS vs second gen SVS?
  9. I have two CI4+ Chronarchs and a Curado I. They all seem to have the same SVS Infinity braking system. I know I am supposed to oil the brake cone occasionally to keep them working properly. A pain but ok. They sure sound terrible when they dry out. I have noticed that 2016 Shimano offerings have a different colored brake blocks (white instead of red). Does anyone know why they changed them? Do they eliminate the oiling problem? Can or should they be changed? Thanks for any information and advice.
  10. I have an older fiberglass boat that doesn't have a ladder or step to help me get back in if I fall out. The only solution I have come up with is attaching a "swim stirrup" to the boat inside above the transom. The rope can remain coiled up by the outboard but I can still reach it from in the water. Does anyone have any other ideas?

  12. Storm Arashi (silent or rattling) Square 3 and Square 5
  13. Release your thumb earlier. It will feel like your lure is going to go straight up.... but it won't. Side arm a decent cast then put a small strip of electrical tape on the spool. This will prevent back lashes from going deep into the spool. Start casting easy. When you cast consistently to the tape pull out a few more yards and replace the tape.
  14. Catt... I'm very sorry but I just can't resist.... Did you have to pry his (insert your brand of reel here.... Lews, Shimano... etc...) from his cold ...... hand? That's how they are gonna find me anyway....
  15. Question related to JDM reel purchases. Can you have them serviced or even warranty repaired at Shimano USA even though they are a JDM product?
  16. Does anyone bend down the barb on their fishing hooks when Bass fishing? Especially worm fishing. Why or why not?
  17. I've caught two pink Princess fishing poles. One had a weightless senko rigged wacky... kids these days.... I also caught the elastic waist band of some BVD's. No one was in them thank goodness...
  18. If you like Shimano look on ebay for a Chronarch in left handed (if that's what you want) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shimano-CHRONARCH-151-Ci4-CH151CI4-151Ci4-Left-Handed-Baitcasting-Reel-6-2-1-/182045040355?hash=item2a62badee3:g:xksAAOSwMmBVxFs3 I've bought two from this seller and they have been fantastic! He is easily recognizable by the red felt background on all his photos. A Chronarch for the retail price of a Curado... Can't beat that.
  19. Next time out ask to switch rods with him. That way you could both feel what the differences are between rods, lines etc without having to guess as much. Love to hear the results.
  20. I think what IowaBass15 is saying he will have total confidence with the same brand lineup. I think that's great that he recognizes this. I'd rather have total confidence that my cane pole will catch Bass every time vs a $200 rod that I'm just not quite sure about....
  21. ... and Darcizzle Offshore... wooo hoooo!
  22. I never laughed so hard when at the end of his video on catching two ten pound bass at one time he toasted his "pre rap" (music) Wigglewart with a flame thrower and then caught the boat on fire. Most of the video was slapstick but the end was pure hilarity.
  23. Thank you Glenn. BTW... shouldn't this post be in "Rods reels and line" ... gotcha... heh...
