  1. I would go with pro speed lews on sale at tackle speed for 199. Absolute best for new baitcast learners. I got one and it's amazing.
  2. I was just shocked how thin it was for a medium. To be honest for it not to snap into two pieces, requires some sort of faith.
  3. Just got the new 2016 Legend Elites and I searched all over Google to find a review on these before I bought it but to no avail. So I decided to start a topic on it to see how it is and maybe a few of you guys might appreciate it. I just unwrapped it and one thing I notice about this 7ft MF is that it's super super light and thin. To be honest I feel like I can snap it in half and wonder how it'll hold up a fish. Another thing are the new torzite guides. They are extremely small and thin. Read micro. These are the next rings from Fuji that are supposed to be smoother, stronger, and lighter (35%) than previous sic guides. It looks like it can handle braid well. The stick balances very well with my reel and and does not seem to be too tip heavy this time. Also if you're wondering this blank now completely matches the legend extremes and from what St Croix has told me, surpasses the current legend extremes because of the new guides, until the next generation extremes come out. That is why I decided to go with these. Anyways next week I will be able to test this thing out in the water and report on the sensitivity. Currently takclewarehouse sent me a defective reel so I have a rod with no reel. I have to wait till I send it back to them and get it back. I'm still wondering if I should just go to cabelas and pick up a new lews reel because I'm dying to trying this rod out. Anyways tight lines and I'll keep you guys posted. If anyone else has the same 2016 rod feel free to chime in.
  4. Nope. Still won't move =(
  5. Yea. OK I guess I got a defect.thanks for affirming.
  6. Hey I just got my lews bait casting reel and when I turn the reel, the line guide in the front won't move. Is there something I'm missing? No line on it yet.
  7. If you guys have a 1 piece 7ft rod and don't have a sedan like a honda accord, does it fit if you put the seat in the trunk down? How do you guys carry your rods around in a sedan or hatchback?
  8. I'm glad that I picked the medium fast then. Thank you for all your advice. I hope that I will be able to maintain it like some of you guys UT seeing that I have a small car, I will have to bend it while travelling. It sounds like none of you would do that from your comments lol. I will let you guys know how the rod pans out soon.
  9. Thank you all for these awesome suggestions. And many of you are right, I will try to baby it a little bit, but I realize that in the real world, its hard to always use your fishing equipment gently. This is probably why I stayed with ugly stiks for so long, cuz they really can take all the abuse i throw at them. Also had a chuckle to poisonokie comment that it will be like night and tomato difference lol. I can't wait to receive the new rods. I've always wondered what anglers meant when they could feel every blade and leaf in the water. Hopefully these new st croix rods will live up to their advertisement. I have yet to read a single review on these yet. Do you think 7' MF is pretty versatile setup? Or should I have gone with MH? I read that st croix, M are like MH compared to other rods. Any experiences?
  10. Thanks! Hopefully it is worth the money.
  11. Hi guys, After years of fishing with only Ugly Stiks and never spending more than 50 bucks on a reel, i decided to go crazy and get a new fishing rod and reel. So I got the New St Croix 7ft Medium Fast 2016 Legend Elite Casting Rod with a Lews Team Pro Speed Spool Casting Reel as kind of a versatile all-rounder. My question is, do I need to be careful on how I treat these things? Coming from a Ugly Stik, you can imagine me throwing it around and yanking it if the line gets stuck. Will the St Croix snap if I treat it the same way (more about the yanking if the line gets stuck, i doubt i'll toss it around)? Also I just like to use the rod to bring the fish out of the water all the way up to my feet (3-5 lb bass) . Is this a no no for these rods? I know a lot of you have premium sticks in here so just wanted to see if I have to treat it like a baby or how much I needed to be careful. Thank you. (do u think i made a good choice btw? These rods are so new, i haven't found a single review on them)
  12. Im looking at the 2 piece Gen 2 for *** blacks as well but pairing it with the new lews magnesium reel. I think that would be an amazing combo. The gen 2 are now available for order! The other option was the touranment lite speed spool as well. And yes they are amazing reels that hasn't been talked about as much.
  13. Hi guys, I have a question that you guys can help me with. I have stumbled on a fortunate event that allows me to spend about 370 on a reel and rod. I am looking for new generation stuff MH and 7 feet but as far as the reels, I am not sure. I am looking for the lightest baitcasting combination by the way. So what do you think I should get? *** *** Black 2 (The new one and maybe a 2 piece) and a real high end reel the Team Lews Pro Magnesium Speed (I like the lightness of this reel) or E6X G Loomis and a Lews Tournament LITE Speed Series (Also light) I know these are very new rods and reels, so maybe some won't have experiences with it but I thought i'd still ask. Another option is to find the best combo at about 350, anything you guys suggest, I will look into. Thanks!
