  1. I have a Evinrude FICHT 175hp outboard on my boat and I'm having a little problem with it idling. The engine sounds like it's loading up and starts running rough when in neutral or in gear at very low speed. It runs great coming out of the hole and top end. I've had it tuned up and checked out completely and still have the problem. Not a major problem, but it sure is annoying. If anyone has had a similar problem, please let me know what you did to solve it. Thanks, in advance.
  2. I agree with Way2slow. Looks like you have a tab lock type washer behind the prop nut. Bend the tabs back outwards and remove the nut. You may want to consider buying a new washer when you put the prop back on.
  3. I've been told that you can spray a canvas cover with the same weather protector that you use on decks. I've never tried it myself.
  4. I towed the same exact rig as you plan on towing with a 1988 Silvarado/350 4X4 and didn't have a single problem with it. A friend of mine tows with a 2003 and hasn't had any problems either. His has the smaller, new generation of small block. Just don't tow in overdrive. I tow with a Ford F150 now, but I believe that my next tow vehicle will be a 3/4 ton. I'm leaning toward a diesel because I started towing trailers heavier than my boat.
  5. At least you didn't know the rock was there! I nailed one that I knew was there, just under the surface, for nearly twenty years. I feel for ya too! Iboats would be a good place to look. My nephew has one on his river boat that is made out of 3/8th inch bar stock. It looks like a semi-cage in front of and around the prop. I don't know the brand, but it worked great. You need to have someone checkout the output shaft with a dial indicator to make sure the shaft is not bent. By the way, my brain hickup cost me $2300. Good Luck!
  6. My first choice would be a Ranger. I don't own one, but have rode in several. For your price range, try a Sprint 296 (discontinued) or any of the older heavier bass boats. A heavier boat with a deep vee will ride smoother than lighter rigs. I'll take the smooth ride over rocketship speed any day. I ain't never caught a fish going over three mph.
  7. In this day of "outsourcing" , I'm curious to know if the Johnson/Evinrude trolling motor is actually made by them or some other company. I've owned three of them over the years have found them to be reliable and fairly quiet. Like I said, just curious.
  8. GAMEOVER, you are exactly right with your comment about better reels out there for purchase. You can pay $400 or more for a reel. For those that can afford that, go for it! As far as your somewhat offensive comment about not understanding my complaint, anytime I pay over $130 plus shipping for a reel, I expect that reel to perform as advertised. These reels dropped in price to $80 plus shipping from Bass Pro. Too bad that was AFTER I had purchased mine. I assume that was when Quantum (Zebco) decided to stop production. I guess you thought I was buying the cheap stuff when you saw the name Zebco in my first post about my problems with them. Zebco. under the name of Quantum, markets some very good quality fishing equipment and well as low end stuff. I buy what I can afford and what I feel is good quality based upon experiece, advertisments and word of mouth. This is one of the best sites on the Internet for bass fishermen. Temper your sarcasm when you post in the future.
  9. I don't have a problem casting a baitcaster. I fall into the same catagory as another poster on this site that states, "I never met a baitcaster that I can't backlash". I got a good laugh out of that ! I don't know if I should list brand names on this forum, but her goes. About six years ago I decided to "upgrade" to a "better" quality reel. I dived right in a bought me six (6), Quantum (Zebco) Tour Edition 600 baitcasters. These babies were advertised as the "Cadillac" of the round type baitcaster. Six bearings and cast like a dream. NOT !!!!!! These things are nearly impossible to adjust for any weight lure. I have had enough "professional over runs" to last a lifetime. Yes, I did read the book about adjusting the internal spool speed control weights. I have sent them off to be adjusted and repaired with little sucess. Now, the ?yokes? are wearing out or whatever they are doing and I find that the reel has long been discountinued and parts are no longer available. Does anybody know of a reel shop that may have parts?
  10. I'm new to this site and it has to be the best I've found! Been fishing the C Rig for a long time with good results. It has produced some quality sized largemouths for me for the last ten years or so. I use 17 lbs. test Stren on a 5500C reel with a 14 lbs. test leader about 36 inches long. I use a 3.0 Owner hook at one end and a bass snap on the other. As for weight, I make up my own rig using 3/4 ounce brass weight, glass beads and stainless plastic coated cable. It's similar to a rig sold by Wally World, but I think better. They last forever. As for plastics, I tend to stick to lizzards, craws and 4 inch. French Fry. My rod is about as sensitive as a broomstick. In C Rig fishing, I kinda feel that the rod is just something to hold the reel. I've never been much of a finesse type fisherman. I would like to hear from anyone that has tried using any type of crankbaits with a C Rig. I'm thinking about buying a few small floating Rapalas and trying them. Before I start throwing $4.00 baits I would like to know if anyone has had any sucess with it. Great fishing to all !!
