  1. I've heard some guys using meat tenderizer hammers....also, adding a few drops of glycerin to a jar.....but I never tried it.
  2. "I was drunk, the day my Mom got out of prison.....and I went to pick her up in the rain. But before I could make it to the station in my pick-up truck, she got run over by a d**n old train."
  3. Who said anything about cold water? I fish them year 'round including dog days of summer. The only reason they were thought to be a cold water bait is because the early plastics were inflexible in cold water whereas pork was more supple. This is no longer the case so pork has fallen by the wayside and plastics are now king. Most folks don't want to deal with dried out pork so they don't. But there are any number of methods to keep this from happening.
  4. Like this one? http://fishingtackleretailer.com/end-of-an-era-uncle-josh-to-discontinue-pork-products/
  5. I do, alot. I found this out about two weeks ago. Been stocking up where I can find them in the colors I like. There's a post under tacklemaking by a guy who makes his own. Luckily, with a little care, they last a long time. $15 to $20 a jar on EvilBay now
  6. Winner, Winner!! Used ones are listed for $50 on Ebay....NIB are over $100.
  7. I still have a couple Billy Westmoreland Signature spinning rods.
  8. There are several listed on Amazon. Here's one: http://www.amazon.com/Kids-Gone-Fishin-Freshwater-Angler/dp/0865731292/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1452135196&sr=1-7&keywords=kids+fishing
  9. I don't know about where you live, but every time I go to my favorite lake it cost's me $20 to launch. I can buy a lot of gear for $20. I contacted the city hall and was told I could buy an annual pass for $120. I average probably 30 launches a year there so the math even makes sense to me.
  10. I was in the same situation 20 years ago. I found the transition was much easier by going with left handed casting reels.
  11. Found them in a drawer...from the late '70's. They are fished like a Silver Minnow. And yes, that is a nylon skirt.
  12. Every spring, I pay particular attention to what's happening around the area. I live next to a wetland and every year there is one day, sometimes in February sometimes March, when every frog starts croaking....like somebody threw a switch. Then the ***** willows come out, then the cherry trees bloom. When the dogwoods flower they're on the beds. All these "happenings" tip me off to what phase the fish are in. I'm sure you know the importance of water temp so I won't mention that. In the fall, first frost tells me the smallmouth will be stocking up. In my area....dark fish are on rocks, light colored fish are on weeds. Good luck
  13. This is quite timely, after Uncle Josh's announcement that they will no longer produce pork rind products. Thanks for the recipe!
  14. I would rate my year a good solid ....incomplete. First year of retirement, getting back into fishing after 15 year hiatus, didn't pick up a boat until late August, only got out 3 times. I did manage to catch a few keepers on the old gear. 2016 will be a different story. I just have to get the old touch back.
  15. Mary Anne.....Roland Martin's wifes name.
  16. Talk about your 8 second ride. https://www.facebook.com/671078782982137/videos/892327400857273/?fref=nf
  17. Yes, by all means go to a range that not only sells guns but rents them also. Try the basics...380,9mm, 40S&W, and 45ACP, in several different semi auto brands that are in your budget. I would also try a couple of revolvers in .38 Special and 357 Magnum. Ask yourself, will this gun be strictly for home defense or will I want the option of a concealed carry weapon. Also, if this will be strictly a home defense weapon..don't rule out a shotgun. Good luck, I applaud your decision to take charge of your family's safety.
  18. Lure makers spend millions trying to get their bait to appear and taste like real meat to a bass. What could taste more like meat than, well.....meat. Those of you who don't use it..........thank you.
  19. http://www.onthewater.com/after-93-years-uncle-josh-to-stop-producing-pork-rinds/ I may have to go pig hunting.
  20. I have a couple of Zebco Cardinal 4's from late 70's I use every time I'm out.
  21. A broken back Rebel minnow in natural perch pattern (no longer avail) is my #1 go to bait 75% of the year. I have caught around 50 6 lb+ bass in my life and probably 30 of them have been on this bait. Most strikes occur when fished topwater. If not topwater then on the slow erratic retrieve. Fav size is J20 but I go to J30 in big fish water. Next best patterns are baby bass, and rainbow. Good luck
  22. At first blush......looks great!!! However, looks like I need a new avatar.
  23. I like tandem Colorado blades....deep cup, hammered copper (getting hard to find), usually 6 and a 3 or 4.
  24. Some people hate them....I love all of mine. Glock 21.
