I dont think that it matters for some things like Flipping, but on my drop shot rod I have 4lb test and having a reel with 50lb pound max drag wouldnt mean anything if it was not smooth. If the drag is not smooth it would be jerky letting out line and with lighter lines that I like to use would cause a lot of problems. I agree with you about the wives tale too, I dont mean to call out Revos but they do it the best. Having a reel with 24lb drag is good, but in reality most guys probably only use around 6-10lbs of drag when regularly bass fishing.

The greatest part is that any Med Heavy or Heavy rod can throw them and I have caught fish from 9in all the way up to 5 and 6lbrs on them I have the sexy swimmer also and was not too impressed with the build of it compared to the sebile. With the joints made of what seems to be only plastic I can see them breaking on a big fish.

He was prob referring to the 08' Classic, Alton Jones took a bunch of Booyah jigheads to the Buckeye factory and had the Mop Jig skirts put on. I work them like a regular jig, just a lot slower. If you cannot feel every little rock that it is crawling over, then you are moving it too fast. Although there are those crazy times where I have caught fish swimming one.

If you put most topwater lures in a pool and swim under them and look up most of them look black or really dark against the sky anyway. So I think color on a topwater does not matter as much as in other techniques. Especially with all the great color patterns out there, most of the bellys on them are white, and I believe that the majority of cool colors are to catch fisherman. However there must be an exception, and I would say with lures that are clear or semi transparent this may not be as much the case. Also with finicky fish that nose up and suck them down I would place an importance on color.
