  1. an mtb or ltb gift subscription is definitely a good way to go. He'll love it!
  2. Lots of companies make buzzbaits, Booyah Strike King an Wareagle to name a few. Don't worry about all the clacker and double-propped ones. Just go with your regular single-prop for now. Heddon has the torpedo, a solid propbait, and they have a couple variations of the spook.
  3. I get that finesse fishing is a great bass fishing technique in a variety of situations, but I there anything about a finesse jig that gives it a more finesse action than a flipping jig? For finesse fishing, could you throw lighter flipping jigs and expect similar results, or is there something about a finesse jig that makes it better for this type of fishing?
  4. if any of y'all could throw up and update on this topic if/when the discount starts, that'd be appreciated.
  5. then I must be a nobody. Trout magnets are one of the most popular trout lures between me and many others in and around Massachusetts, as far as spinning gear goes. Like I said, there are situations where they are good and where they are not. Perhaps you have only fished them when they are not. I use spinners and spoons all the time and they do have a special place in my trout box, they catch fish, too. But when i'm fishing little river pockets or want a smaller presentation, my magnets do what I want them to.
  6. doesn't matter how big, getting your new PB's the best feeling out there. Congrats!

    hilarious! good stuff dude!
  8. Rest in Peace and prayers to him and everyone who has been through the ordeal.
  9. id go with 8 just because keeping tension on the hook is, in my opinion, maybe the most important aspect of frog fishing, so slack should be avoided in any way possible.
  10. I like this whole thought process and agree with it. I imagine most intermediate-level-and-up bass fishermen kind of automatically apply this, but this is probably something that would make a difference with beginners who don't know where to find bass as well as some of us with more experience.
  11. Wow, people. Some real ground-breaking stuff here!
  12. slower rod should do the trick...
  13. and his name is Lake... he is destined for greatness!
  14. Either get him some 200 dollar swim bait or a cool vintage lure that you could make a little mount for and give to him.
  15. maybe just have trout, carp, saltwater, and esox (pike and muskie) topic sections branching off from other species. That wouldn't be too confusing. I do get that this is BASSresource and not troutresource or carpresource, but having individual species sections would be extremely convenient yet would not take away from the whole idea of it being a bass forum. Are you out there Glenn? We need your input!
  16. biggins!
  17. when should I expect it to start, over the weekend maybe?
  18. They're basically little jig heads with a split-tail grub trailer. They are very small, coming in 1/64 oz size and I think a 1/80 0z size as well. You can either jig them with very slight twitches of your rod, or "deadly drift" them, which is when you throw on a bobber or float however far away from the jig you want. You can either cast and slowly retrieve with this or cast it upstream if you are at a river and let the current move it a lot like fly fishing. The jigging method gets better results but the deadly drifting method is easier and works well, too. The jigs are cheap, too. I would definitely recommend looking into them.
  19. I'd like to take advantage of TW's labor day sale, but how do you get the discount? It said be subscribed to the mailing list, which I am, but I cannot figure out how to add in the discount.
  20. it has a lot less line stretch and better knot strength but still sinks and is invisible underwater.
  21. well what "style" of lure do you like to fish the most? Base your new combo off that.
