  1. welcome!
  2. Driving a big jig hook into a bass' mouth requires tough, stretch resistant line. fluoro doesn' stretch that much compared to mono, but braid has ZERO, meaning a harder hook set. This'll help to drive the hook in.
  3. whatever you do, order them soon! the labor day sale is going on NOW! I saved like fifteen bucks!
  4. don't buy just for variation. Buy the rod that feels the most comfortable and fitting to your purposes.
  5. paca craws are good. I use the paca chunk, which is designed to be a trailer. it works great on a swim jig.
  6. BRAID!!!!!! It'll make a much firmer hook set. also, it's possible the bass didn't like something about your presentation if this all happened in one day. If it happens again, try switching up size/colors and maybe the bass'll want it more and hit harder instead of just poking at it.
  7. unbelievable. my thoughts go out to you, man. I've never lost a rod but I was with my dad when he dropped his off the side of the boat and it really killed the day.
  8. they are very similar looking. The biggest giveaway is that bright blue pattern on the mouth area of the face.
  9. No, unless they maybe reflect light like bowhunter63 said. Either way, I love swim jigs!
  10. ATTENTION EVERYONE!!! THE SALE HAS STARTED!!!!!
  11. great milestone to set for yourself, good luck!
  12. Just from looking, I've noticed that there is a lot of those animated smiley face emoticons on this site, and a lot of them are pretty, um, interesting. So who wants to play a game? All you gotta do is post a single emoticon, the weirdest one you can find. Maybe we can get some laughs. I'll go first with this gem right here:
  13. All my good catches have been from shore this year. I haven't had a great year, but I've gotten a 4.5, a 3.5, a couple threes, a bunch of 1s and 2s. I don't get to get out too much since I'm not driving. The key for me has been jigs (mostly swim jigs), as well as topwater (buzzbait and hollow body). if you're having trouble, try fishing finesse. Throw an unweighted senko or a finesse jig, maybe a small shakey head and just work 'em real slow. That should get you bites. Also, try to get out at dawn and dusk, especially because you're stuck on shore. I'm from the south shore by the way. Tight lines!
  14. for my tank build, if it ever happens, I was thinking of trying yellow perch. nice and small, yet very communal fish and some nice colors, as well.
  15. doing trout right could get expensive. They recommend a chiller, as trout like cold water, and good current as well as some slack water. You also have to watch pH levels more closely. Trout are a beautiful fish, but they are very delicate and can be hard to take care of. I've never done it myself, but that is what I've gathered from all of my research. This'll all cost a lot, by the way. A cheap chiller is ballpark 400 bucks. Bass and sunfish are good tank options because they are much tougher than some species.
  16. wow that little dude in the pic was HUNGRY!
  17. welcome!
  18. what exactly is it?
  19. how much do those go for?
  20. I like to match, especially with swim jigs.
  21. I'm grabbing one in my TW order, should I do 1/8 or 1/4?
  22. nice!
  23. WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. I'm also curious about this... when do you choose a rat over a frog?
