Hey guys, I am wondering what kind of fishing combo should I make as the standard issue kind of thing for my middle school fishing club? I mostly got experienced members with their own tackle and going to their own youth tournaments, aka Anantha, but this year, I am recruiting non anglers. Currently, I am looking at Zebco 202 combos and a bunch of 1" grubs and jig heads. Too make room for as many field trips on the water as possible, I need to budget out things, especially since my school is full of outdoorsmen...... Do you know of any better beginner setups?

Life did seem to be more "Tom Sawyer" back then.

Anyone play those fishing games? Like the ones on Facebook. I find the game Let's Fish to be a bit fun, but nothing beats landing a real fish.

They are said to taste pretty bad. What's more, they have quite a dose of mercury in them.

Want do you use to nail the small snakeheads?

It seems that there are always people crowded along town lakes, while nobody goes to the remote reservoir. Even if fishing rates doubled, I think that those remote lakes rarely, if ever, see an angler.

The big 'uns aren't fooled by those stinky concoctions. They are predators, not scavengers. They using a live bait, or a spinner with a minnow attached.

I think new anglers, like my students, don't care about what they catch, only they catch something. It is disappointing to only catch a 10 pounder once a year, and no other fish at all, than to fill up the cooler with crappie.

If you got close it it, it could be a beaver warning this nest mates about a potential predator. Beavers slap the water with their tails to warn other beavers.

Ha ha! I used to have a kid like that go on environmentalist field trips even though he was more of a jock that texts in class than a guy interested in digging up turnips. When I showed the classes the list of seminar field trips I have, he signed up for a lot of them. Turns out he just sits inside the air conditional building texting.

Bassing in Maryland for Largies seem pretty good. The Dnr seems diligent in stocking the tributaries with Florida strain.

I have talked to a Dnr guy the other day and he remarked that Maryland was seeing record lows in fishing interest the past few years. I got a few ideas, but since you have been the hobby longer than I have, what do you think is the cause for the low interest in angling, bassing in particular?

Bowfin were around before we were. They really look interesting. Never understood the concept of "trash fish" either. There always should be variety in the lakes and ponds. Let's face - only hooking up bass even gets boring after a while. Always is nice to catch something different for a change.

I would ask them to make a self propelling battery powered crankbait with a hook as a propeller.

Hey guys! So, as some of you already know, I have started a fisheries sciences club at Clarksville Middle School, with angler and student Anantha Patel. I am the GT Research Teacher at the school, and I thought the CFS would be a good idea. The club is known as Clarksville Fisheries Sciences. We mainly target bass, although we still dabble into fly fishing and nothing beats pulling out some slab bluegill. The club used to be an unofficial thing Ananth pulled together by bring groups of his friends fishing and hanging posters around because he and his friends were in Green School. I will be using this thread as a sort of journal about the founding of a middle school club and will post updates about our operation. But I have a question about club operations. Are there any companies out there that would help by donating fishing combos instead of discounts? Thanks.

I hate ragweed pollen! That, along with the heat, makes me stay indoors a lot.

Sucks! But hey, do you have a video to PM me or something? There is this kid in my middle school club that never uses the net. He says it is "too bulky." He hauls up large after large without an net on the pier. It would also be nice to remind everyone in my club.
