bait monkey tried to kill me this weekend. he forced me to pick up a Tatula Type R 8.1.1, 7'6" Vendetta H/F, the Ned rig, paca chunks, and a couple other small things like this custom foiled 6" slow sink bull shad
in theory a weightless fluke that is a similar colour to the topwater would be best it imitates the same thing and if you just let it dead stick i can't see why they wouldn't see it as a stunned fish that they just missed
they're actually a nice bait for the price. i was also fishing the line thru but i felt it was a little to subtle since the water has a little colour to it
ok so even though the season isn't officially open yet i couldn't resist throwing some big baits at my favourite lake. saturday morning around 9:10 i was throwing a 7" saveage gear 3d trout and felt something i didn't expect, after a nice fight and a couple above the water head shakes i land a large female weighted in at 5.05 and she was definitely full of eggs so i let her go before i stressed her out anymore. the next day i was throwing a lucky craft real gill 150 and feel a similar bite again after a decent fight i land my second swimbait fish ever another female weighing in at 4.56.
now i'm hooked on big baits and can't wait for the season to officially open
i definitely don't mind fishing with friends i'm trying to get some friends into fishing so i try to teach a bit. most of the time i am alone though since i mainly bank fish or fish at a family cottage
much better to do it this way i was never a fan of the direct connection to the jig head.
i have tied a couple myself i actually took an old strike king swim jig and connected the blade by tying it with 65# braid it worked well though it took a lot or tinkering
