  1. I would think one of a couple things are happening if not a combination of the two. I am no expert just trying to put some of that spoonplugging knowledge to work. 1) the increased temperature and lack of rain has dropped water levels as well as pushed the thermocline deeper in the water. This is causing the largemouth to go deeper and further off shore to be more comfortable. The breaks the largemouth are relating too happens to be the same that smallies are traditionally on. 2) the increased temperature has increased plant growth thus drawing more baitfish off shore and the largemouth follow, they still relate to structure in the area and find breaks on that structure which happen to be the same ones smallies are traditionally on.
  2. Couple pickups from this week. I've been searching for a nice finesse rod for a while so I finalally pulled the trigger on a dobyn's champion extreme 702 SF I found for $250. Then paired her up with a brand new tatula lt 2000 cannot wait for this weekend to test it out on some smallies
  3. once i rig her up i will post some more pics in the show off thread
  4. i wish im thinking about picking up a tatula lt
  5. pretty stoked about the deal i got today i've been looking at getting a nice drop shot rod for a while, looked at e6x's, zillions and a few others. Today I found a Dobyns Champion Extreme 702 SF for $250 at one of my local shops. I'm so stoked to get this thing rigged since I have a smallie trip this weekend but of course the bait monkey is telling me I need a nice reel to go on it.
  6. if you didnt apply tape to the spool before spooling the straight braid it could be slipping on the spool
  7. for me it depends on the crankbait style my squarebills and lipless are very similar just in a 3700 plano like so, most of the organization of squarebills is silent/rattling and colour but my mid and deep cranks are either in the plano crankbait medium or the crankbait large
  8. couple things i have picked up recently from trades, a local shop and a nice order from the rainforest. Megabass I-Slide 262t rainbow, Deps slide swimmer 175 rainbow and a spare skin from a deps silent killer AR Lures Big Swimbait pretty cool looking bait they are hand made wooden baits. this one is a multi jointed swimbait that is 7 1/2" and 2oz actually a pretty sick looking bait and i was able to pick it up at a local shop for $25 another AR Lures Wake Bait 7" 2oz" that i picked up for $10 and my beautiful new hudd rod an okuma guide select 7'11" xh. likely going to be paired with my shimano cardiff 400
  9. i fish spro rats 50 size, johnny rat, abt dirty donkey 2, 5" punker all of which get fished on a 7'6" h/mf bass pro bionic blade its rated 1-4oz and throws them well
  10. Phenix Canada makes some awesome tubes favourite size is the 3.5" colour is green black copper close second is camo
  11. sorry guys i've kind of disappeared for the last little bit no my baits didn't arrive correctly and the seller basically said it wasn't his fault and refused to put a claim through (i was told i was not allowed to by both post offices). i've also been having some health issues i need to sort out my knees have been bugging me lately as well as one of my feet from trying not to use my knee
  12. my thinking is there are 2 ways to do it you could use soft plastic paint and paint the skin or depending on the colour or the skin you could paint the body underneath as far as the 2nd question i would go with carp that sounds cool what is the colour you're looking at
  13. 10.43 caught in 76 on a jitterbug
  14. definitely agree the shine glide is the best sub $50 bait close second would be the s-waver i have seen a few jointed claws that have holes somewhere so i don't trust them i do like the i-slide though
  15. Little pickup today with the gift card my girl got me for Valentine's day. Cannot wait to start the setup on the boat this year
  16. the dt line is a killer up here, specifically the dt10 and 16. also take a look at some spro little john deep cranks
  17. test out the jackall kaera too im a spro frog guy and there are a very close second. They're small but a nice frog for just outside the slop or getting into tight spaces
  18. agreed i dont understand the waiting to set the hook, to me it sounds similar to the 3 tap rule with t-rigs and jigs
  19. i wouldn't disagree with that just seems pretty stout
  20. care to elaborate on that choice?
  21. i have had issues with fish pulling off in the past as well, the thing i have done to change this is use a moderate rod. i personally use 2 rods for this my 7' MH/M daiwa ballistic and my 7'3" M/M abu garcia Ike rod. i feel these rods do a couple things for me. 1) it allows you to better feel the vibration of the bait, which helps with feeling for bites and grass 2) it helps with not ripping a huge hole in the fishes mouth (this in itself keeps more fish on) 3) it helps with something bluebasser just mentioned, when a fish surges at the side of the boat it allows more flex in the rod, this means the hook is less likely to tear out and cause a fish to be lost. to me the general idea that its a jig and needs a fast action rod is wrong, the bait has an exposed hook, you are already reeling when the fish eats it so the bait and fish are already moving so stopping to make a big hookset like you would on a jig makes no sense. think about an a-rig, most of the time they are fished on a rod that has a decent amount of "tip" to it, meaning more moderate because you can almost just reel into the fish and sweep the rod. a bladed jig has the same exposed hook as the head you would put on an a-rig so why would you change rods.
  22. walking frogs can be a little harder, the best way is to lighten up on the action. try not to put too much action into the rod give it less of a twitch then you do with a spook
  23. thanks guys as soon as i ge the new ones i will get them done asap
  24. cedar run outdoors. my previous 3 transactions with him were fine so i don't really blame him im just thinking something fell on it in the truck
