  1. considering i just started fishing jigs and cranks a lot more i'm setting the hook whenever i notice something different or abnormal and i would say 50% of the time there is no fish but it's helping me learn
  2. on the word of a fellow member i ran to canadian tire tonight and picked up a daiwa revros combo 6'6" ml with a 2500 size revros reel total cost of this purchase was $39.93 i bought it for my gf so i spooled her up with 8lb big game for now
  3. My late 60's Mirrocraft f3614 i think this is the last time she will go out like this i am planning a major overhaul this winter
  4. drop shot and jerkbait i have zero confidence in a drop shot and i dont have a rod besides spinning that i can throw a jerkbait on right now so i dont have a very good feel for it
  5. time on the water will basically help you know more. a smallie will pull a lot differently than a largemouth will, a pike will feel different than a bass and so on and so on
  6. flip a beaver and throw a frog those are the two best approaches i have found
  7. i would be curious what the first boat was framed with. pressure treated lumber acts very badly with aluminum and can potentially eat through the hull.
  8. i would go with a 7.3:1 and spool it with braid for the fog rod
  9. i've started paying more attention to the location of the fish and what i can effectively present to that fish. say a fish is sitting on bottom in 20' of water. you aren't going to effectively present a spinnerbait, you are better with a jig or a texas rigged ribbon tail worm or something that is a bottom contact lure. so i guess to answer the question i switch more so for effectiveness, not so much because what i'm throwing isn't getting bit but because if i know they are in that area then i try to pick the most effective presentation i can depending on where they may be in the water column
  10. i did i just forgot that in my reply. you will get multiple opinions on this so they only way to know is to try for yourself, i know that probably isn't the answer you're looking for but from my personal experience i have found no issues fishing a spinnerbait or a bladed jig on a glass rod it's actually quite the opposite i have had a better hookup ratio because of it. an added bonus is a moderate action glass rod should have no issue handling crankbaits either. i think most people fish blade jigs like a jig which i can't blame them for. In saying that myself as well as a few others like @Bluebasser86 fish bladed jigs like a squarebill more than a jig, now i'm not sure if he agrees with my thinking of a moderate action glass rod maybe he can speak to that himself.
  11. i would be looking at something more moderate for cranks a fast action rod generally isn't the best. something in the 7'-7'3" range is good then you can test both of your rods for whatever baits you want.
  12. i use a glass rod for both my bladed jigs and spinnerbaits and absolutely love it i caught 4 fish on spinnerbaits this weekend and had no problem with the hook penetrating. i feel with an open hook they should be thrown on a more moderate rod so you don't rip a huge hole in the fishes mouth. it also helps with feeling the vibration of the bait a lot more. spinnerbaits and squarebills are on a 7'0" mh/m daiwa ballistic bladed jigs and lipless cranks are on a 7'3" m/m abu garcia ike
  13. Caught a nice 5.5 on a jig this morning
  14. do you have the water body classification and the seasonal calendar periods?
  15. i hook into muscles all the time when throwing a crank, had multiple seagulls try to eat my spook, but the strangest was a tool box
  16. i've been using 50 lb sufix 832 which is the same diameter as 12 lb mono i was using 30 but it casued some backlash problems with my tournament mg that i really didn't want to tinker with to sort out maybe i will in the late season again
  17. i have been considering this as well and im going to do a plywood casting deck that is removable. it still allows the most use of the boat i feel a full conversion is too much and far too pricey. from what i have figured doing a deck for the front 2 seats would be roughly $200 but that includes a seat and seat post
  18. okay but you are going to have to turn the handle to pick up slack it wont always be pointing upwards
  19. just curious but why are you trying to walk the dog with your reel instead of the rod? and how exactly are you doing that?
  20. i've been thinking about doing this too but i can't get myself to spend $50 on a tackle tray
  21. if they do have a party it would be hard to beat this
  22. just grab some new eyes that you would put on a crankbait
  23. i fish the 168 and the biggest fish i've seen in my lake is 6.5 lbs the product is good i would just up size if i were you
  24. something boiling on my frog then jumping with it still suck down it's throat
