  1. Really clear water, or if you want the line to sink vs. float. I don't do it anymore, but when I only fished one rod and reel I would use fluoro leaders for jerkbaits. I like the jerkbait to be slightly head down when it's sitting still, and I found that fluoro made that easier. Most of my leaders were/are mono or copoly now.
  2. I mostly use 15# Big Game (on 50# braid), unless I really need to use Fluoro.
  3. I only trim my chatterbait skirts if it interferes with my trailers ability to move freely. A trailer hook would be more effective with short strikes than trimming the skirt IMO.
  4. According to this video, that seems to be rather recent, Mr. Yamamoto is still in the beef business. Starts around the 2:00 mark.
  5. I am too, but it seems that every time single hook replacement of trebles comes up responses are hard to come by. It's either one of the bigger secrets in bass fishing, or hardly anyone does it IMO.
  6. I like your list. I would add a chatterbait and a Keitech, or chatterbait with a keitech trailer.
  7. Now might be a good time to take a chance. They had all of their fluoro on clearance at my store. Picked up a 200 yd. spool for $7.98.
  8. Have a blast!! Let us know how you do.
  9. No. I loosened the screw, pushed the front of the cover down and out, then reversed it on a completely loose spool tension knob setting. It went right on. Are you the member who started a thread on the side plate? Did you not get it to work?
  10. Ahhhhhh. Thank you guys!!! I was lost. Another quick question, it seems pretty tight where the star drag and handle nut are. Is that fairly normal? It seems like it's going to wear through the neoprene rather quickly.
  11. 6' will "git er done".
  12. I got a couple Tatula CT's in the mail. They came with Diawa steez neoprene reel covers. I've never used a reel cover before and can't figure out how to use them. Can someone help me, possibly with a pic?
  13. I just downloaded Tapatalk, but I'm having trouble (probably don't know what I'm doing) getting BR to come up in a search. Thanks for any help!
  14. Those of us that can reel with both our right and left hands are just better than those of you that can't. (just kidding) For me personally, I like to palm the reel on baitcasters. In order to do that I have to change my hand position no matter what side the handle is on. So, for me, casting with my right hand is more comfortable and accurate. Casting right hand and reeling left hand would still require me to change the position of my right hand on the reel. I would have to throw the bait out, grab the handle, or something with my left hand, then reposition my right hand in the palming position. It would be a fairly awkward thing when my entire reel and rod is supported by just my left hand on one paddle of a handle. Now, when I use a right hand retrieve, I cast out with my right hand, then grab the reel in the position I want with my left hand producing a hand to hand transfer and not a hand to handle transfer, which is much more secure for me. With spinning gear, I don't need to palm the reel, so I cast with my right and reel with my left. I've never had any problem setting hooks with either hand on the rod, but I prefer casting everything with my right hand.
  15. Never heard of one breaking on it's own. But Diawa's customer service would make it right if it ever did IMO. Buy with confidence. There are a ton of T-Wing reels out there, and I've never heard of it being a problem.
  16. I find that slowing down is less taxing than speeding up. I'd go with the 8 to 1. That way you could slow down and get close to a 7 to 1, or speed up on the 6.4 to 1 to get towards the 7 to 1. I used to only fish a 7 to 1. I went to fishing two baitcasters in 6.4 to 1 and 8 to 1 and don't regret it at all.
  17. I do the same thing. If I can pull it fairly tight before ever casting it, I've never had one break.
  18. That is one cute kiddo!! Awesome catches!!
  19. I use an FG knot when tying a leader to braid and *knock on wood* have never had a knot failure.
  20. I think a Diawa Fuego $75-80 ish on Ebay, would be a great reel. As for rods, I think you will get some good options from members. Personally, I have an Academy brand ethos composite cranking rod that I really like. I found it on clearance for $20 and it's a fantastic rod for the price. I also have a Berkely lightning rod shock (bought from Walmart for $30) in MH for my froggin/jig/carolina set up that I like as well. A medium Lightning rod shock might be a good option for cranking, but I don't have any first hand experience with it.
  21. It looks like the auxiliary spillway potentially collapsing is the most important thing to shore up first. The erosion looks to be less severe in the part where the concrete collapsed in the main spillway. I hope they're able to control it enough to give them time to fix it.
  22. I never go anywhere thinking I will need my gun, just as I can't remember ever consciously thinking *today is the day I will need my seat belt*. You're right it's insurance whether it's a gun, seat belt, etc. The only way it serves as insurance is if one has the belt on, or the firearm on them when it's needed.
  23. Couldn't one also make the argument that if you knew you would need your seat belt, you would just not drive?
  24. The advantage of a knife is it's good At contact range. The disadvantage of a knife is it's only good at contact range. Given the choice of a knife or firearm only I'd still take the firearm, fortunately I don't have to choose.
