  1. I would take it back. I'm not trying to be mean, or offend you, so please don't take it that way, but it doesn't sound like your mechanically inclined enough to try and figure out the problem on your own, beyond some very simple things, which isn't a bad thing or a negative on you as a person, it's just that you could potentially do more damage than good. A couple of things you can check are Battery connections- make sure they are tight and clean Fuel filter/s- If your boat is equipped with them, you may have a clogged one fuses, if your boat has any In general, a motor needs gas and spark/electrical to run. If it turns over but does not start it's missing something in that equation. Now, it could be something as simple as a fuse or relay, but that kind of thing needs to be traced out. You said that the mechanic set the timing and fixed the starter. If the engine turns over I would say the starter is ok. If you just hear a whining sound and the motor doesn't turn over, then it's a starter problem. The fact that he changed the timing could be the problem if he didn't get everything tightened down or something changed with it. The problem could be related to what the mechanic did, or it could be something else. Unless you want to try and trace the problem down yourself, I don;t think you have a choice but to take it back. It might turn out that the problem is something they did while they had it the first time.
  2. Well, there's certainly no bias or speculation in that link
  3. Thank you for the welcome. I will definitely try to hunt that thread down.
  4. Thank you for the response Bruce, it did indeed help me.
  5. A Tatula is right around $100 on the auction site.
  6. I heard there was a 20 pound bass, in that lake by your house. Still want to take a break? Just kidding, sometimes a break is good for the soul.
  7. I like casting with my right hand, reeling with my right hand, and manipulating the rod with my left. If it was as easy as learning to just reel with my left hand I could probably do that, but I would also have to learn to manipulate the rod with my right hand. I'm not saying I couldn't learn it, just don't know if I want to try. I have experimented with two hand right hand low, baseball grip casting, with the spinning setup with marginal success.
  8. So, I'm starting to get some gear together and get back into fishing. So far I have a 6'10" h2o xtreme ethos MH and a 7'3" extreme ethos ML, both bought for less than $40 total on clearance at Academy. I have a Pflueger President 6930B. I will probably get another president and am looking at a baitcasting set up as well. What will those two rods cover? I want to be able to throw as many techniques as possible with a three rod set up. If I went with a 7' MH baitcasting set up, would there be any glaring holes in my gear?
  9. THAT is what i'm afraid of I have so much other stuff to buy LOL!!!
  10. I live in Wichita. I haven't fished for years, but I hope to change that soon. I would probably check out some stuff in and around town. I go camping at El Dorado a lot, so I'm hoping to do some stuff there. I don't have a boat so I mostly would bank fish in the beginning. I'm looking at picking up a Kayak as soon as possible though, pretty excited about that LOL!!!
  11. Hello all: I'm really green here, so I hope I put this topic in the correct forum and didn't bring up a topic that has been discussed ad nauseam. My apologies if I did. I'm interested in your opinion on how you would go about spending $150, if that's all you had to spend. I picked $150 because it seems to be a price that some feel like they can get a good setup, while others think not so much. If you were buying the components separate, would you: Spend about the same on the rod and reel? Spend more on a rod ? Spend more on a reel ? Here are some examples: $110 Tatula or equal and a $40 Lightning strike shock or equal $100 rod and a $50 ProMax or equal $75 rod and a $75 reel maybe something like a pflueger supreme ( I think they're going for $80 ish ) I don't know if this is coming across the way I want it to or not I guess i'm interested in knowing how many of you would buy one good component at the expense of the other, knowing that if you decide to upgrade later on, you would only have to buy one component as opposed to two.
  12. Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm getting back into fishing after a long hiatus. Looking forward to interacting with all of you fine folks.
