  1. Ahh, then I was wrong, sorry about that.
  2. I'm assuming, possibly wrongly, you're talking about my post since you used the word "proper" in quotation marks. If you are referring to me, i'm not understanding what you mean. What I meant by "proper" was throwing to specific targets, as opposed to randomly throwing to nothing as the OP suggests is happening.
  3. I don't doubt that, but do they care? Meaning, are beginners, or people that have been doing it for years, legitimately trying to catch fish, know the proper way, and just go out of their way to defy it?
  4. Not sure where you live, but you might want to make a trip to an Academy sports and see if they have any Ethos rods still on clearance. I bought my last one for less than $20, marked down from $80. Ethos rods get a lot of love around here.
  5. It has character. I like it, and hope you catch many lunkers with it.
  6. If we're truly talking about "beginners", is it possible that they just don't know any better, especially if no one is helping them or they're not researching it? I have a hard time believing that these beginners are just randomly casting to nothing, while still wanting to legitimately try to catch something.
  7. My favorite part is when he asked his son "wanna kiss him, give him a lick?"
  8. Nothing like getting those precious moments on video. Might be the next Van Dam in the making there.
  9. Personally, I don't think SirSnook is wrong in what he's saying. He's just as right as someone that wants 25 different combo's. One thing I do think is rather off, as far as a comparison, is this golf analogy that i've seen a few times. No one on the planet can hit their pitching wedge as far as they can their driver, and so on down the line. The correct comparison IMO, would be someone saying that one needs multiple sets of clubs for multiple conditions to have a chance at playing golf well. Or in other random comparisons, it would be like someone asking on a truck forum, what is the best truck to get, and having members say, you should get 3, a 1/2 ton for the light stuff, a 3/4 ton for the slightly heavier stuff, and a 1 ton for towing. Or someone asking about getting a pair of hiking shoes and getting responses saying they should save their money and get 15 pairs, all with different sole compounds and support structures for different dirt make ups and rock densities. Having said that, I don't have a problem with anyone who wants to have all the greatest gear, I just don't think it's completely necessary. JMO of course.
  10. It's easier to become a pro fisherman than it is to become a pro golfer IMO. If you're good enough at golf to get a scholarship, you could use that as a springboard for a good education in case neither one works out, and you have something to fall back on.
  11. Agree. I have 2 Ethos poles that I got on clearance and saved a lot of money. They're great poles, even if you can't find them as cheap as clearance. they usually go on sale quite often around here. Assuming you're up to looking at a different brand other than what you mentioned of course.
  12. I think Hank Hill is the only one on the other side of that potential debate.
  13. Wouldn't be surprised to see gas go up rather fast from the last 3 days of trading increases.
  14. Your pops looks extremely happy in those pics. Well done!!
  15. Why, I autta
  16. If they've actually used the product the OP is referring to, then yes I would agree, otherwise how would they know? How do we know the Op hasn't tried Megastrike? He says been using scents for years.
  17. I thought the OP asked about a specific brand, not what brand he should get.
  18. Here, here. Until someone wants to pay for my gear, i'll stay within my budget and enjoy fishing, no matter what that budget is, or how many people tell me I need to use *insert brand* or my budget isn't sufficient enough to enjoy fishing.
  19. One more reason why I like Swindle. Skip to 2;20 if you don't want to watch the whole video.
  20. Haven't tried the product, but try saying the title of this thread 10 times, as fast as you can LOL
  21. They're certainly not short on excuses are they LOL? $2.26 here today.
  22. Only you know how the conversation went in regards to getting your wife on board with the kayak. If your budget is flexible, then you have some options as to getting a boat that's going to eat up your entire original budget. If it's not, then in my opinion, you should try to get the best all around set up you can. Just like boats, all paddles aren't the same, and that goes for pfd's as well, especially when it comes to kayaks and comfort. Or, to put it into rod and reel terms, if my budget for a set up was $200 and I bought a custom $225 rod, only to put a $10 plastic reel on it, I probably could have found a better way to spend the money to get a better all around set up. The flip side to that is, buying used opens up a door to having better stuff for cheaper prices as well.
  23. Is your $1000 budget just for the boat, or do you need a pfd, paddle, rigging, supplies, etc.
  24. I'm guessing that they just used the mono diameter for all of the numbers, although that doesn't pan out either. I don't know why they would do that, or what possible marketing advantage would be gained by it, but I don't build reels for a living.
  25. You'll be buying a Hobie in no time LOL!! In all seriousness, I'm in the same position as you, with roughly the same budget. I'm leaning more towards the cheaper boat and better accessories, but I haven't bought anything yet. Looking forward to hearing others opinions.
