  1. There are definitely days where I have started with a very subtle presentation and slowly move towards ones that create more and more of a racket until I start catching. It’s also somewhat frustration based, like if I’ve spent a couple hours trying to grind one out with no luck I will generally gravitate towards more “aggressive” presentations are the premise that if the bass are unwilling to bite I can at least ruin their quiet afternoon of knitting or whatever else the hell they’re doing down there.
  2. People keep them around to measure their personal-smallest microfishing records on.
  3. Hah. Man, if you want to do a little swap DM me, I think I am ready to let a few bags of Shellcrackers go.
  4. This has happened before and is why I have like ~2 dozen packs of SK Shellcrackers. I saw them on clearance and freaked out that they were being discontinued.
  5. This is good to hear, I have just started tying and was wondering what was going on with the marabou I had bought, it seemed like half of it was either super matted or has a spine so thick it's hard/impossible to palmer it.
  6. I had wondered if your small-frog fever had progressed this far. And yea, the hook gap is hilariously small and I am going to bend them up before I fish it.
  7. This is more or less where I have settled but I do use the T-mac for flik-shake as well. The T-Macs are softer and more buoyant, but also a good bit more fragile.
  8. I will third the "3 power Loomis MBR" in whatever blank/length you think will fit best. The 1/4-3/4oz range is what I fish the most and a 783c is about as versatile as they come. I don't think I would like the longer handle on the GLX when wading but ymmv.
  9. I went to Anglers today and found that they have really upped their bass tackle selection. Or rather, they have really upped their selection of bass tackle that can be used to target snakeheads. Lots of different topwater, chatters, and swimjigs. They even have a fair amount of JDM stuff as well, even some of the various JDM saltwater plastics. I walked out of there with some Perch Pounders and the smallest little frog I have ever seen. It weighs a little under 3/16oz so I think I can use it on my lightest popper combo.
  10. A t-rig is for dragging or swimming, a shakeyhead/neko is for hopping and shaking.
  11. I made similar statements and was informed that she would help me pack and keep the spare room for me in case I ever wanted to come back it up here and visit.
  12. Hah, I would like to see a side by side of a spinning reel and even an un-tuned finesse casting reel both dropping the same weight, if you don't run any spool tension I bet they end up being pretty close once you get up to heavier weights.
  13. I got mine from the Tackle Trap but I have got a few rods from Japan and I have never had an issue.
  14. It just gets worse from there. Once you learn to master/tolerate computer translated Japanese you can really start diving deep into tackle madness. I have a couple of Megabass rods while I like them amd I will continue to buy them, they’re not the end-all be-all of fancy fishing tackle. I have one of the XXX rods, the Black Themis. I like them a lot to the power/tape or a pretty much spot on to the ratings.
  15. They keep pushing the rain back and now I wish I had planned my day differently or I’d be out there with my fussy little casting rod!
  16. I would argue that the specific term "Bait Finesse System" is and was always a bass thing. Every JDM rod I have seen with "BFS" or "Bait Finesse" in the description or alphanumeric code has clearly been a bass rod or in a line of other bass rods. The lighter UL stuff is either labeled "stream" or "light game". I do agree the UL Abu tuning got it's start with stream fishing but I think that there has always been a clear divide between bass/BFS and UL or Light Game rods ment for trouts/small saltwater species.
  17. For me perch are predominantly a kayak species so I’ve never really looked into seeing how early I can catch them as I don’t like cold-water yaking. There’s a spot or two near me where I can fish for them from the bank/beach, I’ll give it a try once it warms up this week and see what’s happening.
  18. https://sickcustombaits.com/product/lite-wire-spinnerbait/ There it is, thanks! PM me your address and I will have the car towed tomorrow.
  19. An ‘06 RAV-4 with a bad transmission and a little (a lot) of mold inside? I can’t find the title but it’s a fine front-yard car……
  20. Fish didn't steal them, underwater wood did it. I even remember the exact moment I lost the last one, on the big sang on the upstream side of the Monocacy aqueduct. I got 3 bass in 4 casts, on the 5th I snagged the d**n thing. Maybe the light wire was part of the magic, but those were some of the best spinners I have ever fished, a great Goldilocks size and weight.
  21. Whenever I lovingly pose a combo on my woodpile right at the golden hour and take a dozen pictures of it, I very much like to tell myself that I am doing it for some very practical insurance reasons.
  22. Mid/late March is when it seems like I can start catching pond bass consistently, maybe another month for things to really pick up. It's also sadly when my work starts picking up so I never get to take full advantage. I will start "seriously" fishing creeks/small flows any week now, but things only seem to really kick off once we hit that awful period where the water is cold enough to call for waders but the air temps make the hike back to the car sweatier than I want.
  23. This year I forgot to look for more of these spinnerbaits that I got at the '18 show. I loved the hell out of them and if anyone hear happens to know who the maker was, please let me know!
  24. That is more or less how a lot of USDM lines are, the listed rating is often far far lower than the actual breaking strength.
  25. My wife has a heated jacket that uses Milliwake drill batteries and it's really great for the bench work that she does. It's very thick and isn't ideal for moving around it, but if you are standing still it's really worth checking out.
