  1. Cool, thanks for the info. I am alone in the car like 90% of the time and the bacl seats would be down (or removed) about 100% of the time, so it sounds like it’s worth grabbing a long rod and heading to the dealership to give it a try. Thanks again.
  2. The Chicken was clearly invented by someone who sells plastics, it’s almost always a “one and done” in my experience. Sometimes I can get two bass on a Trickworm rigged this way but it’s not a sure thing. It’s a decent rig for throwing a really lightly weighted plastic into the gaps between pads though.
  3. Rod weight/balance is the same argument that is had across all hobbies that involve carried equipment. Backpacking is maybe the worst with some people obsessing over how short they can cut the handle of their toothbrush down to save a gram or three and others who like to carry three knives, an axe and a saw and don’t even think about weighting their pack. People get really personal about this and you have a lot of guys who still love their 20lb-empty exterior frame packs and cannot fathom why someone would care about lugging all that dead weight around.
  4. They hold well until the plastic softens up. They hold very very well with a drop of glue on the keeper. The hook is too large/thick for my taste but they are quality heads.
  5. C-rig and A-rig. I have tied on a C-Rig a few times but never fished it for long as the weight kept wegding in rocks. My state limits A-rigs to two jigheads so it never seemed worth the bother.
  6. I think the FMJ’s taper lets it work pretty well with most single hook moving lure and I have even used it for a BBZ Rat 40 to good success but it’s for sure not ideal with trebles. I do agree that it wants a heavier reel, I have a Steez SV TW on mine and while the entire combo feels very light, it is a bit tip heavy. I am still trying to decide if I like it that way.
  7. I use a small sling (Fishpond Summit) or a hiking daypack (Osprey Talon 11) depending on how far from my car I am going. I will take comfort over easy tackle-access for anything longer then a mile or three. I am looking for a hippack to replace the sling as I think my back would prefer it and I have realized that I should carry more water then I can with my sling.
  8. I once fished next to a guy who swore by foldong a few alka-seltzers into the chicken livers he was using as catfish bait. He would bind them up with thread and tie the gross little package to the hook eye. It seemed to work for him as he was getting more bites then anyone else I have ever seen at that spot.
  9. I have an FMJ and while it does do a lot better with a 1/2oz jig, it casts and pitches pretty well with a 1/4oz jig as well. The 1/4oz jigs I use come in at like 0.62-0.66oz depending on trailer. The lightest lure I use it for is a weightless Cover Craw/Fat Ika, which with a hook both come in at like 0.45-0.55oz. The difference in casting and pitching between them is noticeable so I think a 1/2oz really is about the lower limit for it.
  10. What? Solid tip rods are notoriously fragile. Was it a solid fiberglass tip?
  11. I will take food pictures to people’s hot takes about politics any day.
  12. I fish a lot of very small, I mean like *** acre, ponds and am often amazed at how many 2-3lb bass I can pull out of some of these tiny spots. Any bass over 3lb counts as “the biggest” unitl I catch a bigger one.
  13. I feel like states where fishing is a big tourist draw have far better sites then those that dont. I travel for work all the time and if there is a pond/lake/river/whatever within site of my hotel I will try to buy a license and fish.
  14. Plastics go into shoe-box sized plastic tubs sorted by type. Hard baits go into cardboard boxes placed in large rubbermaid bins very roughly sorted by type.
  15. Desktop/laptop, absolutely. Imgur mobile is like pulling teeth, I have to force-load the dekstop site to upload or post pics. Their apps/mobile site are both designed to “encourage” you to use their site as a social media platform and not just an image host.
  16. That’s pretty much where I stand on the issue. I have two of them, one of them which I still love and use all the time but the other one sits neglected because I made some poor component decisions and my tastes in how I grip a spinning rod have changed. I’m more or less stuck with the it so I just use it as a loaner I have friends who come along who aren’t as fussy as I.
  17. Today my muffler decided to declare it's independence from the rest of my exhaust system and given that my beloved 02' RAV4 is like 3k away from hitting 200k miles, I think it is time to get a new car. I think I have settled on getting a Subaru as everyone I know who has one loves it and they seem to consistently be able to hit 200k with little to no major system failures. They are also AWD, nice and low for easy kayak loading, and have reasonably good cargo space. I know an Outback will be able to fit a 7'-7'6" rod with little issue but I am wondering about the smaller (and cheaper) Crosstrek. I don't have time to hit up a dealership with a rod in hand to try it out myself due to a busy work project but I want to start looking at cars asap and though I would ask and see if anyone here has one and can speak to it's suitability as a rod-hauling vehicle.
  18. Jerkbaits. Does not matter the body of water, my jerkbaits will catch a floating leaf/twig/whatever maybe 1 cast in 3. It's maddening as it seems to happen during the first 25% of the retrieve most of the time and leaves me feeling like I am wasting a ton of fishing time on ruined casts.
  19. Nope, they are quite different spools.
  20. I use both shrink-tube and o-rings, can’t decide what I prefer. I don’t shrink the tubing most of the time due to wind and it still works great. Fyi you can buy shrink tubing with heat-activated glue pre-applied.
  21. It can, but again it’s hard to predict what NPS is doing with the water levels. Clopper Lake is near-ish the canal and could be a fallback if the canal isnt happening.
  22. I picked up a Fury 795 over the winter and while it will cast a 68 Special just fine, it still feels underpowered. Long lob casts work well but it’s hard to make short accurate casts. I ended up with a more powerful rod and the difference is noticeable, esp in how my shoulder feels after a few hours fishing one.
  23. Zoom Supers are plenty tough if you use a screw-lock hook. This is one that a little hammer handle pickerel turned inside out. Still fished it the rest of the afternoon.
  24. I’m the opposite, I dont understand why most USDM spinning reels have so much capacity, I usually end up filling most of my spinning reels 3/4 of the way up with plumbers tape before I spool line on.
  25. Tackle Tour does calculate balancing tourqe for their reviews.
