  1. I don’t know what makes it fresh-water only, as far as I know it has an aluminum frame and plastic sideplates. Maybe the bearings?
  2. I think the ASC would be a perfect for for that rod. The tiny spool capacity is well suited to an ultra short rod.
  3. Hah, I was mowing my lawn and it was like 90f out. The buff is to keep my allergies from getting too bad and the bare chest is to make showering off after faster. I’ll roll the dice on 30 minutes of sun exposure every two weeks, mowing with a shirt on just seems absurd for some reason. For fishing I wear a long sleeve short with a very deep hood. I wear a ball cap and stretch the hood over it, that and the beard keep sun off my face most of the time. My screen name comes from my bro making fun of my “wizard cloak”, which is what he calls my sun shirt.
  4. Oh, well then check out Bone World rods then. They have a multi-piece light power casting rod that is apparently quite nice. It may not be light enough for what you’re looking for, but you should be able to get it quite easily down there. A lot of the Japanese trout rods are very short because they’re fishing some incredibly narrow waters. Definitely check out some of those videos that I liked, it will give you an idea of what these rods can do. I believe there is a longer model of the wise stream travel rod, somewhere around 6 feet I think.
  5. The best work boots/shoes I ever found were from Nautilus. http://www.nautilussteeltoeshoes.com/ They feel more like hiking boots with a safety toe then big clunky work boots. I tried a pair of Redwings and gave them away after a month. No matter what sock/insole combo I tried they would kill me after 5-6 hours.
  6. I am a big believer in wearing hiking/fishing clothing whenever I can get away with it and dressier clothing made of similar materials when I can't. Other then two pairs of “dressy” jeans, my collection of hankies, and maybe two older shirts, I don’t think I have any cotton left in my wardrobe. Breathable synthetics and wool/synthetic blends are 100% the way to go if you can afford it.
  7. Water looked great, like 1’ or so down from where I like it. I walked from Pennyfield to Riley’s and other then a shallow area in the middle, it looks like the canal is back. The bass, on the other hand, Were not cooperating. While I saw a couple small ones, 4-5 inches, cruising in the shallows, the only bass I managed to catch was in what is technically in the Potomac. I caught it on a jig that I had dropped into the debris mat just on the river side of Inlet Lock 2. There is a tremendous amount of flooded grass and other cover, and I honestly could’ve spent all six hours just fishing the first half mile from where I parked. I have another free week in the middle of the month and I’m going to head back there at least once more as soon as I can and really start picking some of it apart to see if the bass survived the drawdown.
  8. An mat in an industrial/restaurant kitchen will, aside from UV, see far far more abuse then one on a boat. There are a ton of options out there in various thickness, densities, and materials.
  9. The issue with “circle hooks” is that there are different styles all sharing that name, but they don't work the same. http://www.chesapeakelighttackle.com/2013/03/20/circle-hook-confusion/
  10. What I want is a face shield with a stitched slit to allow my beard to stick out. 3-4” of beard under there with me isn’t tolerable for more then 30-40min of fishing or lawn mowing.
  11. I know there are some multipart trout casting rods out of Japan, Diawa has one in their Wise Stream line.
  12. Look at Bone World Rods. They are an Australian company that make’s short, heavy rods for snakehead, those weird AUS cod, and inshore use. I was/am looking at them hard for a short frog/Toad rod. If you can go to 7’2”, the MB Hyurga 72H is a great rod for swimbaits up to 2oz.
  13. I bought a pack of Decoy Versatile Keepers on a whim last year and have really gotten to like them on straight shank hooks. For tougher plastics like Trickworms I use the small ones and bury it in the worm. For softer ones like Senkos I use the large ones and snug them up to the bottom of the worm. I think pegging the hook eye with heavy mono is the “best” solution but sometimes I want to leave the hook-eye exposed so the Decoy Keepers do have a place.
  14. I think I am going to hit the Canal this afternoon and fish until dark. I am going to start at Swains and head north until I find bass. I fear that is gong to be the first time I have to apply mosquito spray this year, had a few in my yard last night so I assume America’s Most Historic Ditch is going to be full of them.
  15. This for me too. I own so many lures, but I end most trips with a small plastic on a jig tied on.
  16. Funny, I found them again just this last weekend. They are from Eiron Jigs . It's a small scale manufacturer and you have to call your orders in, which explains why I never got anymore of them.
  17. Awesome to hear. I am thinking of heading up there in the afternoon on Friday and fishing until dusk.
  18. Ah. I love the idea of tiny hardbaits but trebles and light line is like playing roulette on a wheel with six zeros.
  19. Huh, there is a current JDM Destroyer rod like that I think. Is it meant for topwaters?
  20. What rod is that? I cant make out the writing on the back of the reel seat.
  21. I would agree 100%. Wanting to throw a Hudd68 and a BBZ 50 Rat was what got me looking at proper swimbait rods in the first place. I do throw 168 S-Wavers on my Fred’s and really like it for that.
  22. It will be fine. I cast and pitch Fat Ikas/Cover Craws with mine. They both weight right around 3/8oz w/ a hook and while the FMJ isn’t ideal for lures that light, it can do it. The 1/2oz Kietech Tubes are a better fit for the same application. A 3/8 jig will weigh almost 3/4oz once you factor in a trailer.
  23. I think these days that might be the third most-broken law in the US, after speeding and underage drinking.
  24. Is very weird that they kept the name, literally all I know about the brand is that they are orange and they broke a lot.
  25. Fred’s is an amazing rod, only the length/handle length keeps it from being 100% perfect for me, I would pay a lot for a rod with it’s exact power/taper but a good bit shorter. I lost 3 Hudd 68Specials this winter to snags on the 795sb and never felt a thing until the lure stopped moving. I was slow rolling them across the bottom and only on riprap could I feel anything. I went insane and bought a MB Super Red Demon to replace it and it’s amazing how much more engaged and attentive I am when I can feel the Hudd’s tail moving at a slow crawl.
