  1. Rage Menace on a 3/0 Owner Straight Shank. I like them a lot weightless but if I need to rip them through weeds or pads I add a 1/16oz steel weight infront. They are almost a perfect fit and act like a protective nose-cone and really prolongs the life of the plastic.
  2. I have already moved all my perch/panfish lures from trebels to single hooks and I think by this time next year I will have all my bass ones as well. I might end up just moving to barbless hooks on my jerkbaits if I can't get single hooks to suspend well enough, but I hope to make it work. This last fall I had a very bad moment when a very green stocker rainbow managed to pin himself, my hand, and my pant leg, all together in a snarl. "Fortunately" the trout gave a mighty thrash and ripped the hook out of my hand before it got too worked in there, but the treble was so worked into my pants that I had to cut the hooks past the barb to get them out. I am very willing to miss the odd fish to help lower the odds of this happening again.
  3. Flukes are about my favorite bait to fish, good to hear they are working already. Spent this afternoon farting around Northwest Branch near TP. The last two years I have been pleasantly surprised with the numbers of small bass I have managed to pull out of there. While I got a couple today, there was no where near the action I was getting last spring. If any of you all care, the white perch seem to be about to hit full swing. I am taking my bfs trout combo out tomorrow to see how it works for them.
  4. When out to a brackish pond by my house to test out some new lures. Kept getting bumped on like every retrieve so I hiked back to the car and retrieved the single inline spinner I had with me. Caught about 24 white perch, maybe eight of which were around this size. and maybe ten slightly smaller like him; The rest were super small dinks that I am always amazed can even get the hook in their mouths. There were a bunch of guys fishing for them with bait on the other side of the pond and having little luck. One of them wandered over after seeing me land like 3 in 4 casts with a 5 gallon bucket in one hand and two tallboys of Highlife in the other. A deal was struck and everyone walked away happy. While getting rid of the Highlife back in the woods, I ran across these guys; The pond is full of carp, so I assume that is what they are from? A buddy of mine is a biologist and always appreciates it when I bring him dead stuff from the woods, so they are now proudly on display in my yard until he picks them up.
  5. It was my first BFS rod and while I really liked it, I though something shorter and faster would suite my needs more, so I picked up the CR721 when they went on 33% off. I was dead wrong though, I can't do nearly as much with sub 5/16oz plastics with the loomis as I can with the Phenix. The Loomis seems to only really get great at like the 3/8oz level. I'm rambelng here, but BFS and light casting rigs in general are always on my mind of late.
  6. Oh man I cannot wait for the RH version to come out. I have one on preorder at Japantackle and am waiting for that email. I was going to put it on a Phenix Recon 682L, but I put a sv105 on it and really like the combo. I have a PX68 w/ some upgrades on a UL rod as well as a cr721 IMX that needs a reel, so I need to do a cast-off to see what reel works best on what rod. Please let let us know what rod you pick. Nice lookig combos, refreshing to see stuff posted with the handles on the correct side.
  7. I had never really noticed the Tiny Paca Chunk before. I really like the looks of it, both as a trailer and rigged alone on like a 1/8 Draggin head.
  8. If any of you guys have a source for some of those tiny swings heads, please shoot me a PM. Heck, I would take a lead on 1/16 shroom heads with #2-4 hooks as well. I have a bad feeling about how long my order from Gopher is taking and I have yet to find a good place to get smaller hooked heads from.
  9. Ah, got you. Thanks for the info, I can't stand the palomar, so I will skip getting a second spool.
  10. I wanted to try the X8 but for some dumb reason bought the 14lb, which is so thin I could sometimes close my eyes and not be able to tell if I had a strand of it between my fingers. It did cast a mile but I couldn't knot it in any sort of wind and my leader knots tended to break often enough that I scrapped it. I do still wanna give it a real go, what thickness did you go for?
  11. I want to like them, and have caught a few fish on them, but I seem to have more luck with spinnerbaits and swimjigs.
  12. Half a Zlinker, or one of the Zman leeches. I am also going to give the Producto Tournament Grub a try this year;
  13. Looks like it! Very nice! I have been the dink-master for the last few days, but hope springs eternal.
  14. I have been fishing this rig (but with a 1/0 stright shank) for the last two days, I must be young at heart. I think I am going to get some Slider heads to use next time though, the urge to start working it fast is too strong to resist when it is weightless.
  15. You are like 2 hours from Susquehanna Fishing Tackle, which is like a little slice of bass-heaven. They should carry what you need. It's a long drive, but you will pass a lot of great water on the way there and back. Exactly. I think people get hung up on exact definitions. I fish the "Ned" on a weedless Owner Ultra/Decoy Nail Bomb head most of the time. Does it work as well as a short, open hooked head? Nope, but it works well enough and saves me time, money, and keeps more litter out of the water. While I know and believe this, I get all fussy if it isnt straight. Well, you gotta ask them quickly as once they peddle past you, they can't turn around to come back and answer!
  16. I use the 3" ones the most for creek fishing and 5" ones for more normal stuff. I have never had any luck with the 4" ones, I can't seem to find a hook that gives them any action on a t-rig and for wacky, I have found that the 4" Ocho worm works a lot better.
  17. Man, I have caught a pile of bass while dead sticking a Ned and they were all hooked on the side of the mouth, or just inside it. It makes sense that they could easily swallow such a small lure, but I have never seen it happen.
  18. Do you know which model it is? I got it a year or two ago from some huge lot on eBay, and I don't remember the manufacturer and model. I think it's a Strike King maybe?
  19. I was fishing a small pond the other day the only thing they would bite was a pink colored roboworm. I was fishing them on a Neko rig and a slider head. The neko was wining, I believe due to the tail having more action and being higher up In the water when retrieved quickly. As each worm became a little too ripped to hold Neko style, I would switch to a chicken rig, using the hook to bridge the weak spot where the Neko hook had pulled out a few times. It got hit pretty often, but the plastic would be ruined after a single good hit.
  20. I am heading out to fish the canal for a day or so. Going to start at Swains and keep going north until I find fish. I have caught like ten bass in the last two days, but they were all under 12". The big ones have to be around somewhere, right?
  21. Had a long, almost fruitless day yesterday in Charles county. Hit a few spots, everywhere was muddy and there was little signs of grass or pads. Managed a single dink on a WP 90 right at dusk in Myrtle Grove. Today I went to get my reservoir pass and fished the bank at Rocky Gorge for a bit. I was walking the bank throwing a lipless crank when I saw this dead shad. I thought "man, I have a lure that looks just like that" and tied it on. About three casts later, I got this fella; If I am only going to get one, this is it's a bad one to get.
  22. Yea, I am regretting not picking one up. I want a heavy-ish reel with an SV spool for a 7'5" frog rod, an Alphas 150H at 8.11oz is too heavy (and too big for me to plam) and a Zillion SV feels too light at like 6.8oz.
  23. I started looking at them the other day as well, but I can not find righty sv103 reels for anywhere near $200. I think I missed the boat.
  24. Cant speak to 1, but as for 2, I have had some luck stepping up to like a 12-15lb floro leader on windy days and still caught fish. You want to use a loop knot to maximize the lure's action and I use a very short leader to keep the knot out of as many guides as possible, as the knot will be chunky.
  25. Got you, I was thinking of someone with outdoor space. I went out this morning to try them out. Both are pretty hard for me to cast with any real accuracy, but after an hour or so I could at least hit a weed line at 40-50'. The 68 has an amazing action on a super slow retrieve, I really wish I had made it out to this spot within a few days of the last trout stocking. It runs through sparse pads very well, but I think less expensive lure like a RI Big Dipper might be a more practical option for that presentation. I think it's real value is going to be running open areas, once I get more skilled in casting it. I didn't get any attention from fish on it, but had a rather large turtle follow it for a few retrieves. I have a bad feeling that this lure is going to meet it's end to a snapper. The gill was less impressive at first, with little action at low speed and only a very subtle one at a quick retrieve. But after running it through a group of actual gills and scattering them, it does like very very much like a scared gill just hauling butt away. It also skips very well and I quickly improved my close range accuracy with it. It seems much less weedless then the 68, both the actual hook and the more prominent fins. I think this one will see more use than the 68, as sunfish of that size are very common in most of the spots I fish. Because I use my frog rod to throw these, I am going to need to get a second spool so I can swap out while fishing. I can see carrying it to use when I find a spot of clear water in the summer while out frogging. Now I just need to think up a way to carry them when hiking. I can only carry a single 3600 box in my pack, and that gill is big. I am thinking something like a thick and semi rigid plastic envelope maybe?
