  1. Further confusing the issue are white perch, which are really a "bass". I live by the Chesepeak Bay and they are popular as both a game fish and as a table fish. We used to have a lot of yellow perch as well but over development created too much sediment runoff and the population crashed. Before I discovered freshwater bass (actualy a sunfish and iirc a "perch" as well) I was crazy for white perch fishing. With the right lures it's easy to catch a hundred in a day once they come up shallow.
  2. I have done a little fussing with lead wire wrapped on swimbait style hooks to get small plastics to sink a bit faster in current. It works and I have gotten small stickbaits to keep a horizontal fall, but it took some time at home with a bucket of water to find the right amount of lead for a specfic plastic.
  3. Bill, Look around your area for a disability rights lawyer. Most of them do a lot of pro bono work and it sounds like your problem could be solved by a polite letter informing the landowner of the law. If you are truly have the right to fish there a letter might be all it takes.
  4. Yea, I feel the same way. I paid for the MLF site for a while, but it was too much money and like 90% of the other content didn't interest me at all. I would love to (and would pay) to watch pro fishing of any sort, but I have no interest in other sports/hunting stuff and paying for said content.
  5. Yea, the lower weights seem more reasonable. I have a rod that will throw the 6.8 on a weighted hook, I might give them a try. Thanks for the info!
  6. Uh, what coupon is this? As stated above, I have a rod that needs a bit more weight than a Ci4+ 2500 on it.
  7. If it's a safty festure then how can I afford to not have one!
  8. I think a carp-chair could make that a non-issue, look at these things; I have had living room furniture that was less comfortable than this thing looks. This one is only 44 Euros too!
  9. I'm the opposite, I prefer to buy used for most stuff so I am less ticked at myself when I inevitably damage it.
  10. I have some of them in 1/32 but have never thrown them. In general, Decoy has some cool stuff in terms of lighter jigheads and finesse hooks.
  11. That is a good point about the grass, I admit that I rarely try to fight floating grass, most of my concern is over not snagging in the rocks. I feel like the vertical eye lets me keep the lure nose up better then the angled Owners and makes poping the lure free more effective. However, the Owners are a perfect fit for the Zman Finesse Shadz and give them a great "floating" swim action. They also give a far better hookest then the trds on those heads.
  12. Bushwhacking with two rods sounds like a nightmare, I would ditch the spinning combo if the casting one can handle a senko.
  13. That jig and plastic combo is a winner for sure. It was the first lure I ever had much luck catching bass with. These days I have mostly moved on to using the Decoy "Nail Bomb" head in 1/16oz - #1 hook size. It is very close to the Owner heads but imho stays weedless better and gives better hooksets. They are easy to find on ebay and are about the same price as the Owners.
  14. Hah, well some of them are still out there! http://www.ebay.com/itm/611m-HOOK-HONE-R-Fish-Hook-Sharpener-Power-Stone-Battery-Operated-/282665137811?_trksid=p2385738.m2548.l4275
  15. I can't tell if you are pulling my chain.
  16. Has anyone thrown the new Keitech 6.8 and 7.8 baits on a scale yet? Would love to know what they weigh.
  17. I met a carp guy the other day who looked like he had a $400 folding chair to sit in while fishing.
  18. I spent a little time yesterday fishing a Timberdoodle around a weeded up pond. I had a pair of solid hits, but both times the hook didnt clear the plastic all the way. I bought the Timberdoodle a year or two ago because I thought the name was funny, but yesterday was my first time seriously trying to fish it. I really like the action of a. spoon and fish a lot of spots where it would be a good lure, but even after trying to sharpen the hook myself I'm not convinced it's going to be terribly effective. Does anyone make a weedless spoon with a good hook?
  19. Got my first snakehead today! I was surprised he hit a Ned, I was way undergunned for the marsh I was fishing, I was pitching to open water right up next to the bank and he grabbed it.
  20. Yea, that specific use was what I was most interested in. I will have to give it another try.
  21. I bought one of those because I thought the name was funny and while I love the action, I have never even gotten a hit on it. The hook was also really dull and even after some time with a file I was not confident it was very sharp. I love the idea of weedless spoons though, I should give it another try.
  22. Because of this thread I took one of my MH/F rods out for some bank beating today. I threw a 1/2oz RES, a 3/8oz spinnerbait, 4.8" Keitech on an underspin, and a 10" Culprit t-rigged. The rod handled them all great. I have a K_oncept A on it and man that rod is such a pleasure to fish with a light reel, it has so much power for it's weight, it surprises me every time. The short butt takes me a dozen or so casts to get used to, but man does it make short range pitches so much easier vs a rod with a standard or long butt.
  23. I swear I miss 2/3 of the fish I see take the lure. It drives me insane it I am too jumpy to calm down and weight until I feel the hit.
  24. Hi, My wife will be working up that way next week and I was thinking of tagging along to do some fishing. Looking mainly to wade for smallies, but am open to any kind of bass action. I see the Latrobe Resevour a bit north and Ice Pond and the Loyalhanna Rive in town. I will have a car and about 9-10 hours a day to fish. Anyone willing to shove me in the right direction? thanks!
  25. I have a pair of the MH/F 6'8" rods that I grabbed when they were on sale at FFO. I got them to be general purpose kayak rods as the short butt section is perfect for seated casting while wearing a PFD. I have cast about everything on them, other than deep cranks, but only because I don't own any. I really like them a lot and when one eventually meets it's end I am going to have a custom built to match the survivor.
