1. Ordered the 904c also from TW, so that I had both rods next to one another. Some observations: 1. The Conquest is heavier but feels quite a bit better balanced. 2. The Conquest's longer handle is noticable 3. Suprising: the tip of the NRX+ 904c is much more powerful than the one from the Conquest. The Conquest feels super light in comparison. The tip feels also much faster on the Conquest than on the NRX+
2. I got the 904c today. Not sure if I like it. The handle feels even shorter than what the description would indicate and the rod is too heavy, even with my CC 201hg. Thinking of returning it to get a conquest 904c instead.
3. Just called. They said that they can't give out that info. Lame!!
4. Does anyone have a weight of the 904c? About to pull the trigger on one but would like to make sure I have all the details. Thanks in advance!
5. Copperstate tackle has 20% off
6. Appreciate your opinion! I actually like a bit more power in my moving bait rods (currently use a Poison adren 7'4 heavy , moderate that is on its last legs) for chatterbaits, single hook paddle tail's and larger cranks.
7. What did you not like about it for moving baits?
8. How heavy of a lure can you comfortably fish with it? I have some 3/4oz blades jigs that way over an ounce with trailer. Wdyt?
9. I am looking at the rod as a hybrid rod to throw mostly moving baits (1/2-3/4oz jackhammers and spinnerbaits) but should also be able to serve as a jig rod when I need it. Thoughts? Thanks a lot y'all!
10. The hookup has a 24% off sale.
11. Any sales on megabass lures anywhere?
12. Back in the days I had a couple of the dobyns extremes. Honestly it's a solid rod that is well balanced and has a decent visual appearance. What always bugged me with the dobyns was that it's rating was completely off. A Dobyns rated 'heavy' was a 'medium-heavy' at best. That's why I run the dobyns extremes 704c as my cranbait combo. 😉 Sensitivity on these rods is good, but quite a bit off from a Steez or a NRx imo.
13. Code doesn't work for me. Sale already over?
14. If its is not black and gold, its the previous model. But even there I did not know that they had this specific model.
15. Interesting! I did not know that there was a 902c in split grip! Is that an older version?
16. Received my GLX 902c on Friday and took it out for a spin on Saturday. Wanted to share my early thoughts on the rod to help others in their possible decision making process. Reminder: My (old) GLX 892c snapped on me (the rod probably did not like that it was foul hooked and casted into the lake some time before it snapped.. ;D), so I used the Xpeditor program to replace it. First impressions out of the rod tube: * Rod weight 3.73oz, the 892c came in at 4.31oz, which is great deal of weight reduction given the additional length and its full cork handle!! * Weight reduction would not mean nothing, if balance was off. I am happy to report that the rod balances really well. I am using a Calcutta Conquest Shollow Edition on it and the rod balances perfectly with the reel. Looks: well, let's put it this way: the black and gold takes a bit of time to get used to. While the Conquest SE's blue tone perfectly matched the old GLX's color tone, it looks a bit displaced on the new GLX. The golden Conquest would look probably perfect on it though. I am not thaaat particular about my gear, so dont think I will change that any time soon. Fit and finish: typical Gloomis. It's okay but no where near a Megabass or even a Steez. We all know that.. The blank has little to no epoxy on it (similar to the NRX, is it the same blank?) which I would think is a main contributor to the reduced weight. It feels a bit more fragile in comparison to the old GLX. Time will tell.. Power and action: Here I was a bit (positively) surprised. While I expected the mag taper, to me the taper turned out to be much faster than expected. Since I am planning to use the rod mostly for finesse bottom contact activities, this was taper is definitely welcomed. The taper is definitely (as one would expect) very light, but gets into a rather powerful backbone about 1/4 of the rod in. Intended use: 1/8oz texas rigs, micro jigs, small paddle tails and small cranks and lipless Fishing experience: I had the Conquest spooled with 18.5lb braid to 7lb FC leader. On the water the combo felt very well balanced and was a joy to fish. It is hard to objectively compare sensitivity here against my other high end rods (Conquest, NRX, Steez, Megabass P5), but I think it was comparable to an NRX (maybe slightly below it). With braid to leader it is more splitting hairs at this level anyways... Threw a range of lures: Lowes was a 1/16oz jig head with plastic (1/8oz total weight), that I was able to cast somewhat comfortably for 20-25m. Not sure if that was more contributed to the reel than the rod though. Maybe its the combination of the two! 😉 Highest weight was a 1/4oz swimbait jig head with a 3.8oz keitech, which probably got close to 1/2oz). I was able to bomb cast this lure out like there was no morning. While it was quite windy, I still got more than 60m out of it. I had only one bite on the combo, but it was the right kind of bite. A 5.6lb largie decided to give my 1/8oz T-rig a try. The fight was a lot of fun and took me almost 3mins to safely land her. *rant on* I really would love to upload pictures of the balance point and the action of the rod, but it is just such a PIA to upload pictures on this forum (we have the year 2024 where we have very capable out of the box forum templates that can do that easily and more..) that I just did not want to spend my Sunday on resizing pictures to make them hopefully work... *rant off* Overall, I would think that the rod is promising and is fairly versatile in its applications. I just do not think that it is worth $600 (with taxes). For $350-400 it would get a recommendation from me. At this price point its a meh.
17. Hi all, Need to replace my 892c that snapped this past weekend. I have been throwing anything from a 5inch Senko to a 1/4oz (total weight) ned rig to a 3.8'' keitech with it. Since the rod is no longer in the new line up I am not sure which rod to pick. I am curious about the 902c MBR, which seems to be more of a moving baits only kind of rod. Wondering if anybody has experience with it and can provide an opinion on how it would do as a bottom contact rod. Other than that the 852c looks like the right choice, no? Thanks all!
18. I castes a 1/2oz lipless with quite some power. Should not break the rod (was my 3rd outing with it), so must either got a ding on the blank from me transporting it somehow or already flawed when I got it (in February).
19. Well, there is no 892c either in the NRX or Conquest line up. So, it will be a 2024 GLX, I assume. I am aware of the differences in length. Was just cuirous if anyone had any of the 2024 GLXs that I listed in order to provide an opinion. As of right now, the 852c seems like the right pick.
20. Hi all! My GLX 892c broke today.. 😕 Looking to replace it. A bit of a bummer that they did drop the 892c from the line up. Which would be the natural replacement? * 852c * 902c * 893c I was throwing anything from a 1/8oz ned rig to a 5inch senko on the 892c. Thanks!
21. There are usually 15% off coupons available.
22. Does this work with the additional coupon?
23. Check the final receipt. I think some companies (such as Daiwa) do not allow retailers to give 'official' discounts. But in my experience TW has honored the discounts on Daiwa (and others) in the past. They might have changed though. They changed their website, which was not for the best either, imo. Me as somebody that works in tech and has designed and build some web applications in the past, I have to say that their new website design makes the search and buying experience soo much worse. Wish they had a way to return to the old website design... 😕
24. I had used the NRX 804c with great success for skipping activities from the kayak! If the GLX shares the same rod characteristics, I would definitely recommend it!
25. I agree with the previous comments that this reel is an absolute gem! You can get these for well below $200 through various Japanese websites. It is smooth, cast anything from 1/8- 1 oz pretty well and also palms pretty nicely! Line capacity is the only downside to the reel that I can see, which can partially be overcome through braid to leader adjustments. .I have mine on the NRX 852c and it is well balanced, capable combo!!
