  1. My brother has been catching bass with Zoom trick worms recently. Motor oil w/ green tail/tip. 4 inch. He's out-fished me in the last 3-4 outings and recently took 3rd in a Kayak bass tournament. And believe me, the lakes around where I'm at are not productive at all and he's been hooking up.
  2. Well, I thought I was alone but I'm glad to hear others are as crazy as I am. I'm re-organizing soft plastics by color and then I change my mind and do it by type. Then I'll move to swimbaits, then re-arrange the cranks, etc. My wife thinks I'm losing it but she just doesn't understand.
  3. Just wondering if anyone has used the Supersmooth Monotex. If so, any increase in casting distance, as advertised by the line?
  4. Anyone ever fished the Northland Buck-A-Roo hair jig? I've usually fished Spro bucktail jigs but they're just getting too pricey for me. The Buck-a-roo is a bit cheaper but I'd hate to order a dozen and the hair falls off rather easily. What about Wahoo bucktail jigs? Thanks everyone.
  5. What differentiates the two, if there is a difference?
  6. You guys think it's a must to have a trailer hook? I put one on a spinnerbait recently and it just looks funny to me.
  7. Is Rapala still making the Glindin Rap? I can't seem to locate one anywhere.
  8. I haven't fished them personally but I frequently fish with my bro-in-law and he has two, a crankbait and a rattle-trap like one, and he hasn't caught a thing on them in 4 outings. They look kind of creepy to me.
  9. Oh goodness Atlanta. Bless you dearly. Hahaha.
  10. I know Lake Adger has a 60HP limit on bass boats. Is that enforced heavily? I'm not trying to be a jerk and break rules but I don't know about buying another boat w/ 60HP just to fish that lake. Will they let you slide if you just don't go full speed? Thanks.
  11. The Okuma SLV is under $100, if you want to look into that. I'm not trying to sound like a "know it all" nor am I the best angler but I would suggest going up to a higher weight if you're looking to do bass fishing w/ the fly rod. To me, I consider weights 6-7 like a "no man's land" of fly rods. It's too big for stream trout and it's too small to throw decent sized bass flies. You can use your 5 weight for stream trout and get an 8 or 9 weight for bass. That way, you can fish for stripers on the 9 weight and, if you really want to get crazy, you can also fish for smaller muskies with a 9 weight as well. A 6 weight is going to be too small to throw nice sized bass flies (striped bass flies too) but too big to have any fun w/ stream trout. Just my two cents, buddy.
  12. Hi guys, I noticed Academy's crankbaits are pretty inexpensive. Has anyone used them? Cheers.
  13. I have a Mojo rod for cranks/jerks and I would suggest not getting one. For that price, I have cheaper rods that are more sensitive. I think if you end up getting the Mojo, you'll be dis-appointed like I was. Plus, it's purple. Yuck.
  14. I was just curious. The rod didn't break. However, where the start/top of the cork handle meets the blank, there is a sealant around the girth of the rod. That could just be for support but for some reason, I started thinking that the rod really didn't extend all the way to the butt because visually, that area looks finished (for the lack of a better way to explain it). I would take more rod visibility and less handle any day. I guess I'm just going to have to start fishing those new ABu style rods with the small, minimal foam handles.
  15. I'm starting to think that rod power rating is a lot like buying infant clothing. In one brand it's listed for 6-9 months and appears too big and in other brands, it appears too small. I have a Gander Mtn. rod listed as H and rated for 1oz to 5oz lures but the girth of my St. Croix MH is bigger than that heavy rated rod. The St. Croix is rated for lures up to 1oz. My Musky rod is rated for 3/4 oz to 4oz, which isn't even as heavy as my Gander Mtn. bass rod. I wish these rod makers would come to consensus.
  16. Does the rod blank actually go all the way to the butt of the rod? I was just curious because I ordered an 8ft. Musky rod from Gander Mtn. but the visible blank is only a few inches longer than a St. Croix 7ft. rod that I have. I think I'm just going to start buying rods with minimal handle so I can see that the blank indeed comes all the way to the butt and is true to the rod length that is labeled on the rod. Are some rod makers advertising a certain length but part of that length is just cork handle? That would be messed up.
  17. It's so good it makes me yell YO-ZURI!
  18. I'm thinking about the Bomber Badonk a Donk. Anyone use it w/ success? How easy does it walk? What about the LC Sammy?
  19. I do think it makes a little difference. I've noticed that w/ regular Power Pro, it's not that smooth and i don't like the idea of it eating into my guides. I do think it helps casting distance a bit as well.
  20. Just wondering what your thoughts are, if you've tried the line. I've always been a Sufix braid guy but I was considering trying the Super 8 in 50lb test. Sufix braid is pretty smooth. How smooth is the Super 8 compared to Sufix braid?
  21. Bass Pro's White River fly reels are a good value. If you're not fishing saltwater, a reel is just a place to hold line. If you know how to tie a blood knot, you can save some money by getting your bass fishing lines and tying your own leaders (15 lb test to 12 to 10 to 8). Bass fly fishing doesn't need to be as pretty as trout fly fishing. I know some guys who use a straight 12 or 15 lb test line tied directly onto the fly line for bass. For the rod, i would recommend getting a two piece. The ones that break down to 3-4 pieces can be annoying.
  22. Yeap. The reel I'm talking about is a Shimano Cardiff 300. I too have an old, old Quantum Energy which has been neglected in the garage and yesterday, I picked it up and it was silent and still very smooth.
  23. I hear some, what I assume, to be gear noise on my baitcasters. It's not screeching, grinding or doing anything funky. It just makes noise. Not anything I think is a malfunction. Not anything alarming but in a way, just kind of annoying when you want total silence at the crank of the handle. Is this normal?
  24. I like your Avatar picture DTF. That was me a few days ago. Cheers.
  25. I know this sounds like a kid question but ya'll bear with me. I was going through some of my old fishing stuff and noticed a few slip bobbers. I never got around to using them but I was thinking about it today and I wonder how much more effective they really are. As we all know, the clip bobber restricts you to a certain depth based upon where you place the bobber on the line. Isn't the slip bobber basically the same thing because it's stopped by the bobber stop? You still have to move the bobber stopper up and down the line based upon what depth you want to fish so basically, isn't it just the same thing? Even if you release more of your line through the slip bobber into the water, it won't indicate a strike because the bobber stopper isn't there? Am I misunderstanding something fellas?
