  1. I have the Steez SV and it will work for punching but it's not a winch. The reel has some flex to it which I don't care for when punching. The heaviest weight I have used was a 3/4oz punch weight with a beaver. It was ok but not my first choice. I prefer to use this reel for T-rigged plastic with up to a 1/4 oz bullet weight. As far as a reel that is the size of the Steez CT that can handle those heavier weights.... the Antares 70A. The only issue would be line capacity if you want to cast it any distance with line bigger than 17lb. I have had no issues casting both light bait and heavy baits with this reel. The key will be to find a punch rod that balances well with the reel you want to use.
  2. G. Loomis 783C NRX+ and an Aldebaran or a Steez CT.
  3. Typo on my part. I left out "too". I guess I should have said ...... I would take them for that price as well. Another bait came to mind that never hit home with me was the Swimming Senko. I have great luck with the regular version though.
  4. I caught 5 on one of them today. I'd take them for $20 but I bought 3 more earlier this week.
  5. I have a couple that I like but most recently it has been the NRX+ 904C. I have paired it the 8.X:1 Metanium and it works perfectly for jigs.
  6. That was the one I thinking of. This gives a little info on it but its pretty much what I thought of it when I held it in hand. You have to go to the end of the video. I also was looking at the NRX rods when I was hunting for a new spinning rod and ended up with NRX Ned Rig rod. It seemed to fit what I was looking for but I really liked pretty much all of the rods in the P5 line up, especially the Windbuster. The one I mentioned just wasn't what I needed but it was definitely unique. If you can get through, the guys in the video are great to deal with. Just let them know what you are looking for.
  7. There have been several hit and miss baits for me but this years disappointment has been the Berkley Stunna. I can't say why but it has not produced well for me. Pointers and Vision 110's have still been doing their thing but this bait just does't get bit as much. This surprises me. I have always caught fish on this bait. It's kind of become my "I ain't going to get skunked today" bait. My two issues with it are that it is a rock magnet and it's not that durable. What I do is I bounce it like a jig and the bass kill it. If I fish it like a little swimbait, it doesn't do well.
  8. I use to have a float tube and just fished my regular stuff for the most part. My favorite at that time was a Fenwick Elite Tech Walleye. It was 7'3'' and had a whip like tip. I broke 2 or maybe 3 of them. I would not recommend it but the action and feel of it were ideal. It had a longer handle and I could whip a light weight bait easily from a sitting position. So what I would look for is a 7' and under rod with a whip like tip, a stiff bottom and mid section that could drive a hook home, and it would need to handle a wide range of baits from about 1/8 - 1/2 oz. I think might already own the right rod, the St. Croix Mojo Yak. I would give it a shot and see if it works. Another suggestion, I have only held this rod in hand, and big difference in cost .....Megabass P5 Kameyama Special. It has a crazy whip like tip (stinger) and is pretty stout. It is definitely a weird rod. It almost feels like a rod made for crappie but it has all the attributes I mentioned, plus it's shorter. Also, I would be more worried about putting the reel in the water than the rod. It will happen more times than you think. I would get a kayak rod tether just in case.
  9. It's doable for both but the senko might give you some headaches depending on the reel. The fat ika won't be an issue. A 3 power would be better for a Senko.
  10. I used my bottle of it last weekend. It smells like nothing and kind feels like my wife's hair gel. All I know is 3 hours later and 12 fish in the boat, I was a believer. I tried all kinds of baits that day but it seemed like I was getting the best strikes on jigs.
  11. The Ebay Monkey got me. I was going to order the P5 Bait Finesse but came across a Evoluzion 30th Anniversary Super Diablo used but in mint condition. It's a work of art.
  12. A St.Croix Victory, there are a few that will work for jigs. Just choose the one that suits your needs and jig weight. For the reel, Daiwa Tatula SV from Asian Portal, around $150.
  13. This would explain why my Palomar knots are not worth two cents. I have struggled for awhile to figure it out. Thanks Captain Obvious.
  14. I use to get kinks in 832 and Power Pro on occasion after some of the more nastier backlashes. If I wasn't mindful of how hard I was casting, the line would break. It was one the many reasons I stopped using it as my main line.... with exception of spinning gear. I now have a love affair with Sunline Xplasma with FC leader.
  15. Any mono I have used has gotten kinks as well from backlashs. I'm glad Sunline made a statement regarding this. I would say it's just the nature fishing line in general and you would think it would be common sense knowledge that if you backlash, you run the risk of damaging your line.
  16. It should work just fine. By the time you add the trailer it will be around 1/2oz.
  17. Pearl, white back and Ayu.
  18. I have 844C IMX and the GLX and I have a 904C NRX. On a kayak the 844C would be my choice but for fishing a jig from a boat, the 904C is my favorite. I have tried all the baits mentioned above and the 844C will do them all well. The only things I didn't like were crankbaits and 1/2 oz or lighter jerkbaits. Crankbaits just didn't feel right and I think a 2 or 3 power is better for working a regular sized jerkbait.
  19. If Loomis will let you.... The last time I called they would only let me get the exact same rod. If upgrading is a possibility, I would go with the NRX.
  20. I have an Antares 70A. I believe it has the same size spool as the Curado 70. It will hold exactly 100 yards of 12lb Invizx which is the same size as 30lb Power Pro. Not sure what the OP has going on?
  21. I would remove the spool from the reel, take apart the drag stack and check for debris or a damaged drag washer. I would also check the roller bearing but I think it would be unlikely that it is causing this issue.
  22. In my original post on the sale I didn't mention the color on purpose. I was hoping it would give people a chance to order. The last time I saw them on line the Hook Up Tackle had them in stock and they sold out in minutes. They told me they were bought by bots that they can't control. As soon as the color showed up the orders started coming in.
  23. Scheels and part of an Omnia order came in. I don't need most of it but I am excited to finally get the Albino Pearl Magdrafts and the Bait Fuel. I also picked up some Sunline Shooter Finesse Special and some Depps soft plastic but it will be next week before they arrive.
  24. Once natural fabrics like the shirts above get wet with sweat, they will stick to your skin and you will stay hot.... This, of course, depends on your body type, age and how well you sweat. I would go with a regular fishing shirt or my personal favorite, a Patagonia Capilene hoody.
  25. Currently. I have a guess as well but I want to see what everyone thinks.
