  1. I went on a road trip with my wife and we came across an upscale, and I mean expensive, custom candy shop. I couldn't tell you the name but a box chocolates can cost $100 easy. So while my wife drained a few dollars from our account, I found, sitting on a shelf all by themselves, a box of Reggie Bars. They were $4 each. I remember them being a quarter. I bought one just for the heck of it. And to my surprise, it was exactly how I remembered it as a kid. For a few minutes I was 10 years old again. It couldn't have been a better thing to find. I am not sure I could bring myself to buy another one for $4 but it sure brought back some good memories. What have you guys found that takes you back to being a kid?
  2. Stealing this from Lemmy..... I'm not afraid of death. How can you be afraid of something that's inevitable?
  3. To do all that, I would look at the Megabass Valkyrie line. The 6'11'' MH wouldn't be bad. The two I have (7'1''H and the 7'4" H+) have been great. They can do just about whatever. I have used the 7'1'' for all of the things mentioned above but all in the 1/2oz to 1.5oz range.
  4. Check out Gomexus. I have them on 4 reels now. I love how they feel. They do add a little weight just based on the size but cranking with them is a pleasure. You can also check out Plat. They may have the bigger handles that are OEM for the Exsence DC (96mm).
  5. If I know I am going to fish braid and will need to retie, I use blue painters tape on my fingers. Cheap and reusable.
  6. I some how posted this below in the wrong thread so if you see it twice, that's why... Even though I feel new to BFS gear, in the modern sense, I totally forgot I had one of these as a kid. There were different versions. Some came in a violin style case with a 5 piece rod, an extra rod tip that was stiffer, and a few baits and lures (all geared towards "micro" fishing). In my day, they were meant for crappie and panfish and if you caught a bass on it, it was strictly by accident but that accident happened a lot. They were fun to fish but the concept didn't seem to catch on with bass fisherman. It seemed at that time that the old adage "Small baits equals small fish" kept anglers away. All I know is that it was fun.
  7. Cool. Thanks for the tip. I have heard the term "sticky" with fly rods but again didn't know the the context. Thanks
  8. I can't explain it but what I posted above somehow got to this thread. It was supposed to go to the BFS=UL thread you started but no big deal. Always love the old Abu reels though.
  9. I jumped on the JDM PE rated braids band wagon last year. I have tried a couple of lines from Varivas and a couple from YGK. They have all been great so far. I don't think I will ever go back to the US braids again. They are so thin that I think the key is finding the right diameter for the spool you have (spinning or casting). My only complaint is that wind can definitely throw these thin braids all over the place.
  10. I tried multiple hooks over the years and my default answer usually is a Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG. Also, I don't recall really ever loosing fish on it but I can see where it has the potential. I have since switched to the Ryugi Infini. I order them from a JDM site anytime place an order. They are far cheaper and better made for senkos, in my opinion, than the Gamakatsu's. I do like the Gamakatsu G-Finesse hooks but not for the price compared to the Ryugi's . Below for comparison is what I use on a regular basis (there are others not pictured) in a 4/0 hook but not all for the same soft plastics (some I do swap around with more baits so this is just a general guideline). Ryugi Infini -Senkos and creature baits Owner Jungle Wide - General Purpose HD hook, Ikas, Cover Scat Owner Offset Worm Wide Gap - Curly Tail Worms, Lizards Gamakatsu EWG - Senkos (still), General Soft Plastic Owner Cover Shot - Roboworms, Smaller Curly Tail Worms, Flat worms, Worms I skin hook Owner G-Finesse - Also a good general purpose worm hook (lighter wire) Here is just my opinion on why I use what for a Senko. The pics below show the Infini, the Cover Shot, and Offset Wide Gap. Notice the difference in the gap when the bait is bunched down. I want as much gap as possible to penetrate without giving the fish an opportunity to jump off, which is why I choose the Infini over the others. Also for me, the Jungle has too much gap, the Gamakatsu EWG has too small of a gap between the eye and the point and the eye bend is turned down, the G-finesse is too expensive, the Cover Shot regular and HD for me do not pull through as easy, and the Offset just doesn't hook up as well. Of course I say all this but all will catch fish on a Senko. It's just comes down to what you have the most confidence in.
  11. Straight to the point ?

  12. If that is one from Creme, it weighs 1/4oz and is pretty easy to cast on just about anything.
  13. Enjoy. It's a great reel. Let us know how it pairs up on the water with the X-Bites.
  14. It's good stuff. I have gone almost exclusively to using this as leader. It's a little softer than some, has excellent knot strength, and brings in the fish. Its also good for lakes with toothy critters. My only complaint would be that I wish it was more abrasion resistant. I have used 6, 8, 10 and 12 pound without issue.
  15. Welcome to the forum. As you can tell, line becomes a personal topic and the opinions will be all over the place. To me each type of line is it's own tool. With that said, and I can't believe no one has asked, what do you intend to use this setup for?
  16. If it's the same company that makes Mach Lures, it's Rather Outdoors which also owns Lews. It probably another spin off of a Doyo factory reel.
  17. I have two. The 6.x:1 is used for crankbaits and the 7.x:1 is used for Texas rigged soft plastic. I like both but as others have stated it is marginally better than the Zillion. It does, to me, cast further and is a bit smoother but I might actually like how the Zillion palms better.
  18. Megabass Jamaica Boa, 1st and 2nd.
  19. I have an older version of that rod and I have the Chronarch MGL in a 6.x:1. Both are great. The reel is fine for Texas rigged soft plastic but I like the Metanium better for jigs and at the JDM price, it would be my pick.
  20. I know guys do it but I'm not a big fan of hair jigs on BFS gear. They tend to go all over the place, even in a light breeze. Most of time I still like to use spinning gear so I can feather the cast but with the wind to my back BFS gear isn't so bad.
  21. I have been using the Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse and have caught tons of fish on it. For the money, it's not bad. The cork is starting to look a little beat up but otherwise it performs great. It has a pretty fast tip and soft mid section, which, believe it or not, is great for treble hook baits when landing some bigger fish. The fast tip sets the hook and the soft middle keeps them pinned without bending the hooks completely out. If you get the JDM version....I also like the Megabass P5 Siglett. It's just a fun rod to fish.
  22. I out fished my buddy last week 24 to 1. All of my fish except one were caught on BFS gear, 5lb test FC, and 4-5g lures. I caught these two this week at my local pond, also on BFS gear with the same lures. This "trend" has been around a lot longer than people think and it's here to stay.
  23. I have the 7'2'' Med Mod. Legend Glass and love it. It handles about 50% of my cranking but the 7'11'' is a beast of a rod. I have only held it and for most of the 1/2oz cranks I thought it was too heavy. I would guess that 3/4-1oz is the sweet spot for this rod.
  24. No limit. I think it's still $30 for the year. You get free shipping on anything, exclusive sales, and 10% back in credit (sometimes 20%). The only catch is if a coupon is above 19% off, you don't get store credit. Say you buy a rod and reel for a total of $300, that's $30 in credit you can use towards line, lures, etc. that will ship for free.
