  1. I don't think I have or ever will tip my UPS driver. He still owes me a mail box and a post to put it on. Our postman on the other hand, gets cookies, coffee or whatever else the wife cooks up on the holidays. I do tip a little more when we go out to eat. The one that makes me steaming mad though, is our newspaper delivery guy. He has a normal job, nice house and a big SUV but delivers the paper to our neighborhood for extra cash. Every year we get a card in the mail from them saying how they need extra money for the holidays and to please inclose a check for one the following amounts: $20, $50, or $100. The amounts are even printed on the card with check boxes next them. Needless to say, I have never given to these people.
  2. Found this on the Fox News website. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,316501,00.html
  3. I'm sure it looked good on paper last year.
  4. I have to agree that organizations like Mongabay need money to exist and they are not the best example but they do research news and articles related to the environment. But don't environmental organizations such as one like this help us or do they hurt us? I can remember fishing for Brook Trout as kid in the Smokies and now isn't there a large enviromental effort going on in Tennessee and North Carolina to clean the waters that brook trout use too thrive in. As far as medications go from the rainforest, I can only think of one drug that has a direct effect on my life that is supposed to be derived from the rainforest and it is Tamoxifen. It is used by women to slow breast cancer. I am not sure this is the gold mine most pharmacuetical companies are aiming for but it has helped a few women in my life.
  5. Here is an article I found on medications from the rainforest plants. http://rainforests.mongabay.com/1007.htm I checked couple of sources and it seems only 5% of the plants have been identified in the rainforest, let alone tested for medical properties. As far as the ice sheets growing in the Antarctic......... The Antarctic is one of the most extreme deserts on the planet. As it warms, we would expect it to receive more snow. But even a whopping warming of 20 degrees -- say, from -50 degrees C to -30 degrees C -- would still leave it below freezing, so the snow wouldn't melt. Thus, an increase in ice mass. I don't think I will ever be visiting there but this makes sense. Maybe I will go salt water fishing in Glacier National Park. http://nsidc.org/data/glacier_photo/special_high_res.html
  6. I like the Loomis MBR 844C and a high speed daiwa Zillion for frogs. The MBR844C has plenty of backbone and can be used for multiple applications. The Zillion will pull the line in quickly, has plenty of power and is light compared to the Calcutta I use to use.
  7. Man, what a bunch of BS. ESPN/BASS have sunk to a new low. If you guys want to get to them don't email ESPN or BASS, email the sponsors. I have had experience watching funds for a Soccer and kids Basketball program get derailed and transfered to another program. Talking professionally to sponsors was the only way to get results.
  8. The biggest hit I took from the bait monkey was a Shimano Calais and a Loomis BCR803 GLX. But I have one to share from a retired guy I use to work with (sort of like Roberts joke). He went on vaction to Orlando, FL for a week then he called in sick for the next 4 days and on Friday he calls and says, "Guys, I am retiring. I bought a house on the water near Lake Whales. I got a great deal. I plan on fishing everyday for the rest of my life." I was jealous and happy for the guy at the same time. He retired to his dream home at the age of 54. Now the bad news. The lake he lived on dried up due to a water shortage last year and all that is left is a pile of mud. He and the other residents were stuck with things the way they were upto this year. I guess there is a big environment project going on in Florida that is trying to restore the Everglades to it's natural state. His lake is on the list for improvements. It make take years to fix but it will be fishable sometime in late 08'. The bait monkey never lets go sometimes. ;D
  9. The house starts off spotless then out of nowhere a tornado hits and the house is a wreck. The kids open their gifts and then we try to clean up. It is the greatest hour of the year because by the time the kids open their presents, we have to get them ready to go to the multiple homes of my wifes family. We will make at least 3 stops on Christmas for presents and food. I wish just for once we could have them all at our house so I don't have to tare my kids away from their toys. I am tired of rushing the kids to all these different places. By the end of the day I will have put about 150-200miles on my car. One of these days I am going to tell her family, "You know where I live. Come see the kids play with their toys. You are welcome to come and eat anytime on Christmas." and finally "It's about the kids not you." and "My family understands this, why can't you." I have been wanting to do this for years but I think my wife would kill me. Someday they will push my kids to the limit and I am going to explode.
  10. Sounds like a good deal. I checked out the link for the warranty and that "Gold Star + Upgrade can't be beat. I wish Loomis would offer something like that.
  11. I had the dealership install mine on my old truck, cost about $300. It was not the Rino brand lining but somekind of other stuff that was supposed to be harder and tougher. I love it so far. It has looks like it will outlast the paint on the truck. The paint is starting to fade on the sides but the liner looks brand new.
  12. I am sure the planet will out last us but will we be able to enjoy in the same way we do now. I'd like to return to Florida someday and fish the same places I did as a kid, that are know contaminated with mercury. I'm sure the world could do without a few cow farts as well and I think kangaroo meat is tasty . As far as finding cures for diseases, the earth is where science is looking first for cures, for all different types of diseases. They don't synthisize a substacne with out a natural base first, just look at snake venom. On thing though, I have always wonder how gets to do the dirty work on these sort of things. Who sniffs the farts or milks the snake? Crazy stuff.
  13. Good. I hope he serves it all. I, also, thought I heard he faces state charges and that there will be another trial in April 2008. In anycase, I never liked the guy from the start, even though I tried. He has a chance to set an example for athletes and others whom follow a life style that operates above or outside the law. If he does his time and sets that good example, he may be one of the biggest turnarounds in sports history. But then again, he could come out jail like Mike Tyson, dumber and crazier than ever.
  14. Cool but I too will stay with Cavitron and Booyah for buzzbaits. They just seem to work for me.
  15. I didn't think about this but Muddy has a point. I have lost qutie a few of these and they do tend to get hung up on just about everything, including a pair of $$$ Gore-Tex pants I use to have.
  16. I like the DT Sure Set Series but I don't seem to get any better or different results than I do with the regular DT's. If you're picking colors, I like the Pearl Gray and the Bleeding Olive shiner.
  17. 1) 5in Senko in any dark color 2) Fat Ika Black with Blue Flake 3)Lucky Craft Flat Mini Crank Baits.
  18. I have been wanting one of those Lucky Craft Pointers with real fish skin. Hopefully, Santa (wife) will deliver . Ho, Ho, Ho.
  19. She is hot but I found something that might be fun..... Courtesy of Sports Illustrated http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/features/2007_swimsuit/3d/ PS. You'll need your 3-D Glasses.......
  20. Sorry to hear about it..... I hope they catch these guys. I'm sure they'll get what they deserve.
  21. Thanks for the links. I think the reel I am talking about is the Premier and there is a great review on a thread all ready running.
  22. It is Christmas season and I'm sure the mall was packed. It is a terrible feeling to witness something like that during a time that supposed about giving and happiness. I had a similar experience in 1995. I was working partime a retail store at Lafeyette Square Mall in Indianapolis when a teenage kid shot at another teenager for giving his girlfriend his phone number. He missed the kid but hit a shopper walking by. He got scared, put the gun away, and raised his hands to surrender. I am not sure how many people drew their guns next, because by that time I was hiding behind the cash register, but he was shot several times along with few other shoppers (I think six). Some of the shots came from mall police and others came from people just passing by while shopping. I'll never forget it. There were so many people shopping and there was just no place for them to go. That mall has slowly turned into a war zone. I don't get, why the mall?
  23. Here is a link from someone I work with. She uses it to keep up with her kids. I started to read some of these and my mind went numb. I am going to keep a copy, maybe I'll learn something . http://www.webopedia.com/quick_ref/textmessageabbreviations.asp
  24. I hate to say it but, I really like the Harry Potter series. I have read all the books a couple of times and I have even listened to them on CD. The guy, Jim Dale, who narrates the stories is fantastic. His translation of the characters' voices and personalities have influenced how the movies are made. Cool stuff.
  25. Man that's great. ;D Does it come in with a Shimano/G. Loomis setup?
