  1. Getting old to me is.... Finding things you never knew you lost.
  2. The older Booyah spinnerbaits are my favorite. My rod and reel of choice are, G. Loomis 783 GLX and Shimano Core.
  3. I always have good luck with Mepps inline spinnerbaits and creature looking baits. I also have done well on crank baits this year, go figure.
  4. Awesome deal. They are out of the 51 but they have an Antares for $385 in a left hand model. This web site appears to have some great prices. Are they legit?
  5. The Fat Ika works for me with a punching weight if needed.
  6. Another vote for the Pop-X and Pop-Max.
  7. If you can find them, either the Shimano Core 100mg or the Chronarch 50. Both have worked great for me. I would not recommend the Zillion for this application. Great reel but not best for this technique.
  8. Depending on the size of spinning reel, I would say it would be overkill for the average size bass reel. I prefer 15-20lb braid when I use it on a spinning reel. I like 30-50 lb for casting reels.
  9. This is a tuff one. Both are great reels. I have the Supreme but not the Saros. I do, however, have 2 older Shimano Stradics. I have never had an issue with either of the Stradics and Supreme is an awesome reel. The only down side to the Supreme is that, in hand, it feels like a cheaper reel but this does not effect the performance. I would put both on a rod and see which one balances best for you.
  10. A 5.x to 1 ratio works for me. I have a Shimano Calcutta that works great but I am still searching for that big reel with a slow gear ratio that has a low profile. I have been thinking of a Revo Toro. It's on next years list.....
  11. I love FC. I use it almost all of my setups. I have only had one bad spool of Seagur Invisix (returned it and got the same line, no issues). The ones I like are Trilene 100% FC, Seguar Abrazx, Seagur Invizx, Seagur Red Label, Seagur Tatzu (not worth the money but great line) and BPS FC. Ones I have tried that did not like, Gamma, PLine FC (like Fluoroclear though), Spiderwire UltraCast, and Vanish (worst line I have ever used, IMHO). My overall favorite is Invizx. This would be the line I would suggest, if you are just looking to try FC. I would also recommend some KVD line conditioner.
  12. Great line. I have had some 600 yard spools of 6 lb and 10 lb for years and it is still great line. I picked them up cheap. At $4 for 600 yards, I couldn't say no. It has taken me 6 years to use it all. I would say it is one of the best bangs for the buck out there when it comes to line.
  13. GYCB Kreature, Fat Ika's, and Zoom Lizards. Nothing that is too much a secret or scientific.
  14. They are not to bad. As others have said, the ugly otter is great bait. I can never get use to the smell. Garlic, I think.
  15. The fenwick hmx if it is on sale is a great rod. I would also give a vote to Gander Mountains house rods. A friend of mine has been using the the Vortex and the Elite series rods and has nothing but positives things to say. I tried out both and was really impressed. Seemed like a great rod for the money.
  16. I have the 6'8" Med x-fast avid and it has plenty of power. Overall, it is a great. It might be the best bang for the buck rod I have ever used. I have never had an issue with it and it handles just about anything I throw at it.
  17. I like to fish it weightless with a 4/0 hook. I like to use spinning tackle and 6 lb test line for this application.
  18. Buzzbait or topwater walking bait (Zara Spook). When the water is calm, I like the megabass pop max for topwater.
  19. I have been using a Core 101MG and a Chronarch 51e for light weight stuff. But the 1/8oz stuff, the right rod also needs to be involved. I have tried it and it was to light for my needs but St. Croix has one in the Avid series that is a ML x-fast that will cast light lures with easy. It did not feel balanced with any reel I tried on it, IMHO. I almost purchased it but instead went with spinning gear (pflueger supreme and a 7'3" Elite Tech ML) for the application I wanted to use it for.
  20. I like Zoom Lizards the best out of the ones I have tried. As far as color goes, any dark color works for me but my favorite is black with blue flakes and a blue tail and legs (candy bug). They have so many that look similar but the pic below is close.
  21. Nice. Can compare the Scorpion to anything else you have fished? I have been thinking of getting JDM reel and this looks like one I can afford.
  22. Don't care about them matching by color, brand or anything else. Just as long as the rod and reel balance well. They only time I care about color though, is when I have a black rod and a black reel setting out in the sun. I then pick it up and scorch my hand.
  23. I really don't start using a C-Rig until late spring. I have never had much luck prior to that. My bait of choice are zoom lizards, going from lighter colors to darker colors as the season moves on (any dark color will work though). As far as the bite goes, to me it isn't a strike type feel but more of a gulp. I try to keep the line tight and drag it with short light jerks. When you get a bite the line seems to go up as though the weight of the C-Rig is lifted off the bottom. Once you feel the dragging feeling go away, set the hook.
  24. Anything but country and hard core (hateful) rap. I mostly like classic hard rock. AC/DC, Rush, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, and the occasional R & B song. I try to always appreciate a good musician or singer no matter what type of music it is.
