  1. 110's in Pro Blue, French Pearl, Elegy Bone, Sexy Shad and Perch.
  2. Amazing reel. Thanks for sharing. Definitely a work of art.
  3. I really wouldn't recommend I either one, especially from a kayak. I would think salt will get everywhere, even in a DC reel and all of Shimano's MGL reels are not rated for saltwater. Out of what is a available, the Chronarch G and the Tranx 200 would work for salt on a regular basis.
  4. I thought some 20lb braid and some FC leader would be killer for the Ned rig but that was not the case for me. I went back to 6lb Trilene XL 100% FC and have had much better luck. The braid and leader combo just felt off, like the bait had less feel on the bottom> Which does seem right to me but that was the case. So sticking with 6lb FC moving forward. I also have used Tatsu 10lb on a baitcaster with a 7' M Fast rod and it this has been my favorite set up for the Ned Rig.
  5. I tend to try at least one new line a year. This year is Seaguar Gold Label leader and Daiwa J-Fluoro as main line. I tried Sufix Advance and it was not to my liking. I tried 2 spools and no luck.
  6. Tried 30lb and 20lb. 30lb was ok but 20lb was a mistake. 40lb is now the lowest I will go.
  7. My initial thought is that this is a scam. They do have a number you can call and an email address. There is a ton of fishing equipment that is made in Malaysia but I don't think some of the vendors would be OK with their pricing. Also, the website is pretty extensive and I find it hard to believe a scam site would go to that level. I could find little info on it but it does have a secure signature. I would contact them and see what they have to say. As far as shipping goes, it's not uncommon for something from that area to take 2-3 months.
  8. Just a strange coincidence, I called Quantum about several issues I had with a Vapor PT and I talked to a Margret (same as the card in the box). She was great and she did all she could to help with my reel. On another side note, I just bought another Quantum today, a KVD Smoke S3. I picked it up for $60. For the price, I couldn't pass it up. I hope it is as good as my other Smoke.
  9. I looked at getting this reel last year and decided against it. I ended up going with the Antares 70A. I do have the Curado DC and the DC system does just fine with a weightless senkos but the rod is going to be the key. I believe the 70A will cast a bit further but the casting is effortless (similar to my old Core). I have tried a 4in senko weightless with 10lb line on a 7' M Fast rod and the 70A was amazing. Other reels I have tried this on have not been that great, except my Steez SV TWS. It will cast a 4in Senko almost as well but not as far.
  10. I have a Steez SV TWS that did the same thing but just did a normal clean and lube and it was fine. With mine it was the spool bearings and the spool making contact with the frame. Overall, the reel was dry out of the box.
  11. I think I have tried them all and still go back to GYCB 5in Senko in Black with Blue Flake.
  12. I wouldn't run a swim jig through the grass but just over top of it which may mean moving it fast. If the water is shallow, less than two or three feet, I would try a different jig, like a punch jig or a grass jig.
  13. The Lucky Craft LC SSR. I have bought at least 3 or 4 in ghost minnow over the years and they flat out catch fish. I always have one tied on when I am fishing shallow water.
  14. Both are good reels. If I were choosing, it would depend on what I was going to use it for. If I were new to baitcasters, and was looking for a good general purpose reel> the SLX DC. If you have some experience with baitcasters and a DC reel is not a big deal, then definitely the Tatula.
  15. I would think so. The only thing I could see being an issue is if the rod tip is soft for a fast rod. Most flippin rods are pretty stiff so it should be good to go. It would help more if we knew which rod it was specifically.
  16. Shipping everywhere has been compromised. I have a package of fishing stuff that has been sitting in Portland for a month. USPS says they are down to less than 1/3 of the staff at that hub. Covid and a workers' dispute has done a number out there.
  17. Yes. I picked up the 6.x:1 earlier this year for the same price from Asian Fishing Portal. I had a few questions about it before I ordered and they were great through the whole thing. I fished it hard every weekend. It is a fantastic reel, if not the best I have ever fished. I used 12lb Invizx and later 12lb Tatsu on it. I paired it with a G. Loomis 853C NRX. Match made in heaven.
  18. I have the Curado DC and it has been a great reel. I find it to do just whatever I need it to do. It does cast far but not the farthest, the DC system is easy to figure out and gets better the more you use it, the reel is smooth, and is overall a pleasure to fish, especially in adverse conditions. Why get this reel over a conventional reel?> Well, I also have the Curado K and also a great reel. I think it depends on what you are intending to use it for. I like the DC for spinner baits, topwater, jigs, crankbaits and any condition that would increase my chances of a backlash but not so much for soft plastic (I have other reels I like better). Also, if baitcasters are new to you, then this reel could help improve your casting but it will not make you better at learning how to use a baitcaster.
  19. Hi, welcome to the forum.... Things like this are always hard to diagnose without seeing the reel first hand but I have a few guesses.... If I understand it correctly, you took the handle off, drag star, and washers but did not open up the reel? First, it could be the sleeve on the main drive shaft is not set correctly. Generally these have a notch that inserts into a plate and a washer that sits on top of it. Once the tension is off of it when it is removed it can get out of place. Next, the drag star has to match up correctly on the shaft. There's usually a lip on it that the drag star has to rest on. If these get out of whack, it can cause the reel to bind up. Again just guesses but you can find the schematic here under the 2019 tab. Good luck... Also, DVT will probably have an expert opinion as well. https://strikeking.app.box.com/s/ibijnxfhtyggviik0wkj6ey09ngjl0yp/folder/87314225008
  20. Based on the link. It may be ok. It just depends on how stout the tip is. Getting out of some heavy vegetation my be an issue. On the other side, I think this rod may be better for lighter jigs (1/4 and 3/8oz with trailer) and some t-rigged soft plastic.
  21. I have had quite a few Shimano's over the years..... Curado CU-201 Curado 201 BSF Calais 201A Sustain 2500 Sarah 2500 Symetre 2500 3 different Stradics Curado D Curado E Curado G Citica G Calcutta 251 Core 101MG Chronarch 51E Bantam MGL Curado K Curado DC Antares (12) x 2 Antares 70 Vanquish 3000 So are the new ones better than the old.... Not necessarily. The Core still, to me, is a reel that separates itself from all the rest. It's just a special reel. It excels at doing all things, simply. Now, there is one exception here..... The Antares 70. It does all things well except it isn't a simple reel and it's pricey. Another old reel, is the Calcutta 251. I think it will last past my lifetime and it's next owner.
  22. Definitely. It is one of my favorite reels. I sold the ones I had and picked up the BSF versions and sold those as well years ago. I wish I would have held onto one of them. It's just a classic. There is also a love affair with these reels in pretty much any condition.
  23. Smith has been my favorite. I have found them at either Sierra Trading Post or Ebay for $100 or less. I can't see paying retail for these. I like the blue mirror for bright days and the brown/copper mirror for over cast days. My favorite frame is the Guides Choice.
  24. Holly cow... I haven't seen those in years, like 40+. My father use to fish them. It was one of his favorites. It brings back some great memories. Thanks for sharing.
  25. It isn't necessarily the retailers, it's the manufactures. They have restricted pricing and it is a requirement of theirs in order for retailers to carry their products. There are ways around it... Like how Tackle Warehouse offers gift cards at a 10% off or if the retailer offers a community day discount.
