  1. I have the Super Destroyer and it's NRX sensitive, if not more so. The reviews that I have seen say the X-bites is more sensitive than the Super Destroyer. I have been looking for one as well. When I find one I'm going to pair it with a Steez SV TW.
  2. I tried this line before. I found it on clearance somewhere. I had the same issue. It was one in a series of braided lines that I had issues with. I would consider it the worst I have tried so far. On a side note, I had the same thing happen today with some 16lb Sunline X-plasma on spinning gear. I needed to make a long cast. I guess I over loaded my rod and it snapped like I was cracking a whip. I had been running it over some sharp slate rock though, there is a chance it could have been damaged.
  3. Well this one was on me and not the Monkey..... This was to replace the Core 101MG. Love this limited edition Metanium MG7 so far but it's not the same reel unfortunately.
  4. I tend to give up on the power schemes and pay attention to the line and lure ratings. Case in point, I picked up a Megabass P5 Super Destroyer. It feels no different than a Med or MH but it is rated as a Heavy (1/4 -1 1/4 oz) and it is true to those ratings. Another example but this one feels like a Heavy > the G. Loomis 844C. It can go 1/4-1oz and feels stiff and powerful in hand but it is not as powerful as the much thinner and lighter Super Destroyer. Weird...
  5. I did a tear down of the 70A and 2 of the 12's over winter, the E-clip on the worm gear was a pain to deal with on those reels. I am still not sure why they use a bushing instead of bearing but those reels are as smooth as silk.
  6. Beautiful reel. Like the knobs too.
  7. Where to start...... 5 maybe 6.... Shimano Curado BSF's for $30 each at DSG many years ago. Sold them all 2 St. Croix Avid rods for about $60 a piece when Gander Mountain went out A bunch of GYCB Senkos for $2 a pack Abu Garcia Revo ALX for $120 Shimano Antares 2012 for $240
  8. I would contact them directly. If it's a JDM Megabass rod, I wish you luck.
  9. I have the original version of this bait and have only caught a few fish on it but I have not given it a fair chance as of yet. I need to fish it more. A similar bait killed it for me last weekend..... The Megabass Vatalion.
  10. The most productive jerk bait I have ever used...... Megabass Vision 110 in Pro Blue. I have had it for about 15 years or longer. Still works great.....
  11. Whatever is big enough to eat that lure is too big to fit in the boat.....
  12. For a cloudy day, black with blue flake or junebug. On sunny days with clear water, there is one color of senko that has been great for me..... 927
  13. I have always liked the Yamamato Kreature for docks and light cover. For the heavy stuff, Beavers are still king.
  14. The one I have is fine. The cast control knob works out of the box as it should but I always set mine a little loose and stop the spool with my thumb.
  15. I have the ALX and have had a few odd issues but overall it's fun to fish and actually one of my favorites after I worked out a few things. So here is what I found with this reel...... Braid and anything above 12lb FC> not a good idea Windy Days > not the best time for this reel 8lb or 10lb FC (Invizx or Trilene XL 100% FC)> Perfection.... I can cast a weightless Senko forever on this line Drag> Not as much as it states but good enough Parts> Same as many Lew's reels Ideal Rod> Med. Fast and definitely not a heavy rod Ideal Baits > Senkos and Ned Rig Ideal Break Setting> 3-4 clicks down from max breaking and really no more. This is were I set it and forget it. I would consider this reel sort of a "Not Quite" bait finesse reel. Also, I have the same love and hate relationship with Abu reels. I have had 2 (maybe 3) STX's, a Premier, and a Rocket (fished it 15min) that got returned but I also have a Revo Wench and a Revo Toro Beast and have enjoyed them.
  16. If you look at a line of reels that has spanned years.... The Shimano Curado hands down. I own or have owned reels from pretty much each major manufacture and the Curado line up has out lasted them all. There are better reels but each rendition has its own special feel to it. I would also throw the Calcutta and Stradic in the same category.
  17. I have the same breaking system on an Abu Garcia reel and it works great. It does take awhile to figure out. But once you get the idea, it can help land a bait softly in the water. It sounds like with some practice you'll get the bugs worked out.
  18. I had the previous version of this reel. It seemed fine at first and I was actually surprised at how smooth and well it performed but only after a few long outings the breaking become questionable. It wasn't line or other parts for that matter, just the breaking system was flakey. Since I only payed a few bucks for it, I donated it at the Cabela's trade in sale. I would look to the reel before the line. I used Invizx for years in 6lb, 12lb, 15lb, and this year 20lb with no issues.
  19. Wind, clear water and light finesse ~1/4oz or less > spinning gear. Everything else is on casting gear, which is 90% of the time.
  20. Best bang for the buck..... St. Croix Avid. I do like all of the St. Croix rods I have though. Favorite over all...... G. Loomis NRX or GLX Fun to fish..... Megabass Destroyer P5
  21. In all my years of fishing, I have fished plenty of lakes with pike and musky but only tied into one. And yes, I did loose my lure (senko). It was fun while it lasted though.
  22. This is the type I use when I peg the bait. It just screws in. I do like this technique but prefer a standard T-Rig setup with a regular bullet weight and a 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG.
  23. Noticed it. One of the guys I fish with has a Crestliner that was $11,000 new 3 years ago. Same boat today is $16,000. Sales on boats, RV's and outdoor equipment are at an all time high. Where I work, we make a particular outdoor piece of equipment and we are know a year out (maybe more) on delivery. This year our sales have doubled and then some.
