For bass fishing, 8' is the longest I have. It s a crankbait rod and it takes some getting use to. I can't see using anything longer to fish for bass especially from a boat.

Sorry I made the assumption that you had just the one rod or just a few. So I have the 873CCR, 802C, and 853C NRX and depending on what you fish all three of these work great as a bottom contact rod. With that said, I wouldn't do the Super Destroyer I mentioned above. All though it's fantastic, it's not the best bottom contact rod for jigs. It is great at Texas rigged soft plastic though and can be used for just about anything. In the Megabass line, the X-bites would be the ticket. I have not fished it, only held it in hand. It does feel amazing. I would have purchased it instead of the SD but it would had the same purpose as the 873CCR and I wanted a rod that could throw small swimbaits like the 6in Magdraft and Dark Sleepers.

Bummer. I would think it's a scam site. And what's odd and sort of funny, people use to think (and this has changed) that Kastking in general was a scam company but yet they have taken their place among other reel companies. I would, in the future, look to legit sites for equipment or if it sounds too good to be true, ask the guys here. We can, generally, point people in the right direction before buying.

It looks like you are going from the sort of lower level of the rod spectrum to the high end. I am not saying that the Sierra is a bad rod, just pointing out its price point. I have a couple of NRX rods and they are amazing but once you go that far, it's hard to turn back. I would also hold on to the Sierra. It's about $100 rod when they are on sale, which means trade in is about $50 on the high end. I would find a rod to complement it and if you are looking at the NRX, I would also look at the GLX and the Megabass Destroyer P5 line up. Finally, look for one that is going to suit your needs. If it's a do all rod, the MBR 843C GLX or NRX from Loomis and the Megabass Super Destroyer (if you can find it).

That should work. I believe the old style with the shorter reel seat should fit. It took me a minute to find it but...... There is one of these on Ebay.

If I am going for strictly recreational fishing (which to me means fishing pleasure), I am picking a G. Loomis NRX 802C and a Daiwa Steez CT SV. Just pure fishing fun. It makes a 2lb feel like a monster. If I am fishing a tournament and want a do all rod for everything, I like the St. Croix Avid MH Fast with a Shimano Curado K.

Has anyone seen a coupon floating around for Siebert's Outdoors? Thinking of stocking up on some jigs. I have yet to find an equal to these guys.

More than likely it was built for the old spincast reels.

I always get bit by bouncing it off the bottom. I don't think I have ever caught one on a straight retrieve. I have caught a few draging it around points.

Is this the rig you are talking about when you say California Rig? I have seen it but not used it. Saltwater fishing? There are different versions but it's something like a Carolina Rig. I don't think 12lb or 15lb is going to make a big difference. I would like at what cover you are throwing it into. If it's thick, go with the 15lb. If not 12lb would be fine but I think if it was me for a Carolina rig I would use 15lb.

Most of the ones in Indy are pretty sparse. I just got lucky on a few essentials. The one closest to me is 5 minutes from a large reservoir and they do get business but most of the customers that go in there leave scratching their heads. You would think DSG would see the trend in tackle and do something. Anyway, they are more expensive than any online store and their selection is 50% Googan Squad, 25% Ned Rig and the rest is just weird odds and ends but they do get a few good things from time to time.

Stopped by local DSG and they had tons of clearance tackle buy 5 get 5 free. I picked several packs of Trokar hooks, some misc terminal tackle and some packs of soft plastic (senkos, zoom lizards, and zoom finesse worms). All told, I payed $33. I added up what I got based on Tackle Warehouse's prices and it was over $120 worth of stuff. I think I'm good for the rest of the year and next year on a lot of stuff.

Fished some of the lunch worm on the kayak last week and after being left out in the sun all day, they dried out but the other bags I had in the tackle bag were fine. All of the bags I have were purchased in 2019. So if guess if you keep them out direct sunlight, you'll be fine. Also, I have noticed that the older these get the easier they tare, worse than senkos.

Nice. How does the DC version compare to the regular? Also, I noticed you have a Aldebaran MGL 31. How do you like it? I almost ordered one but picked up a Steez CT. I was looking for a reel that was not quite BFS.

They are only 1 once heavier than the Steez A. If a 7oz reel is causing some concerns, I would start looking at lighter rods and lures as well. I too have had shoulder issues, broken hands and forearms and a surgery or two on each so I get having lighter equipment. In my experience, the weight of lure and how you load the rod can be the most fatiguing. Throwing a heavy topwater bait all day can wear down the old injuries.

I have the Steez SV and the Steez CT but not the A. I love the two I have but do not use them for frogs or heavy topwater. The A would probably work best in the Steez lineup, especially the new HLC. But with that said, my choice for a topwater reel would be the Shimano Bantam. It's just better suited for the task.

Just curious...... What reel? And is it readily available from other sources? If it is one of the knock off brands on Ali Express, I would pass.

I think the recoil guides add a little bit of sensitivity but the biggest thing they are supposed to bring is a reduction in weight. The GLX 803C I had was just as perfect as it could get and the new rod they sent me sort of seemed like a down grade but still a great rod. It was at the time my favorite rod and it was just not the same.

In the NRX I have the 803S, 853C, 802C and the 873CCR and I like the recoil guides. I have not had an issue yet. I also had the old 803C GLX with recoil guides but I broke it and had it replaced under Loomis's Xpeditor Service. The new rod does not have the recoil guides and it, unfortunately, is not the same rod. I kind of preferred the recoil guides. The only issue I can see with the recoil guides is if you try to pull a heavy snag or some heavy cabbage with braid and it cuts the guides but I have never seen this by anyone that has them.

G. Loomis 822DSR in either a GLX or NRX has been a go to for many anglers. You can find tons of reviews out there on both. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewgloomisnrxdsr.html

Jerkbaits especially the Megabass Vision 110's..... I seem to be drawn to them. Not sure why but you only really need to fish with about 4 colors to cover most everything. I seem to buy one or two every year and now I have two 3700 boxes full.

If it is a clear lake with spooky fish, I like to throw a shaky head with an 1/8oz jig head, senkos weightless, and fat ika. All fished slow. Another thing, I use light line 6lb to 10lb FC, no braid, and the longest cast I can manage. Another piece of advice, use the trolling motor as little as possible and try to spot up (on occasion) in an area where you are sure the fish are (let them come to you).

I haven't had the greatest of luck with Gami octopus hooks but the G-finesse hooks and the wide gap finesse hooks have been better. It seems the wider the gap on circle (distance between the tie and hook point) the better hook ups I have but I tend to like the 1/0 and 2/0 sizes for wacky rigs.
