  1. I like something in between so a mod-fast but the closest I have now is a G. Loomis 844C. I have had this rod for a long time and the tip is a little softer than a new one would be. I also have a Megabass p5 Super Destroyer and it too works great for topwater. I think it's rated as a regular taper in Megabass's line up.
  2. Sometimes I use a G. Loomis GLX 783C for soft plastic but it is my primary jerkbait rod. It works great for both.
  3. Lucky Craft Flat CB MR in just about any color.
  4. I'm up to 22 setups, not counting the three I bought for my wife and kids. I started about the same time as the op. I had two spinning setups and a spincast. Since then I have added what I like and have been fortunate enough to have some friends that are into gear so I get to see a variety rods and reels. I have come to find out that I like the good stuff at a bargain price but also just like a bargain on whatever, if it's going to fit a need or purpose and it's going to hold up.
  5. I hate to say it but to have someone split the rod and finish it will probably cost more than the rod itself. I would just buy a new one that fits your needs.
  6. This what I use to use for years.
  7. Kids craft scissors work great. Just put a rubber band around the tip and your good to go. Also, some kids scissors come with a plastic cover, then no need for the rubber band.
  8. Not exactly reasonable but well worth it. It has saved me more times than I can count. Leatherman Signal Another option for a good somewhat inexpensive knife is Opinel.
  9. If you like it, then why not? I just got to see a bunch of vendors and shoppers get busted and PowerPro (along with other fishing gear for that matter) was one of those products. https://www.wthr.com/article/news/local/indiana/24-arrested-for-selling-counterfeit-items-at-parke-countys-covered-bridge-festival/531-aededbb3-6dc1-4923-8b6b-4c2f6eb4d3e7
  10. Just a piece of advice, PowerPro is very protective and selective of who sells their product. There are tons of counterfeit versions of it. Selling it a flea market is usually the very definition of where to find a "counterfeit" product. Here is a link to an older visual guide..... https://www.stripersonline.com/surftalk/topic/568560-is-there-such-a-thing-as-counterfeit-power-pro/
  11. These charts are helpful but I think they are also proof that you can way over think it.
  12. How much are going to spend on braid? There are other alternatives to Tatsu. It's great line and tends to last me at least twice as long, if not longer, than most other FC and way longer than most mono lines so in the end based on it's longevity its worth the cost. I would not buy it at regular price though. Some other lines to consider..... Seaguar Invizx, Sunline FC Sniper, and Daiwa Samurai.
  13. Forget the Honey-Do-List. My wife puts me under House Arrest sometimes. Lifetime sentence without parol.
  14. I have been using this guy for a few years now and it has worked out great. Only down side is I have more plastic than I can fit in the box so I also have a Plano Deep Box just for Senkos.
  15. MH Fast with 12lb Tatsu.
  16. I went out as well. The crappie were biting but no bass. It didn't matter. It was an awesome day on the water.
  17. Have the same reel and noticed something odd with it.... Like the new Bantam, the more I fish it the smoother it gets. At first it didn't seem as smooth as my other Shimano's but after fishing it as my main reel in a few tournaments, it casted and retrieved smoothly.
  18. I think I am going to give one a try. I have been ordering from another site as of late and have had fantastic service. I am waiting to hear back from them to see if they will price match it.
  19. Is it the new one? If so, very nice..... I took one of these apart over break. I guy clean reels for, once in a blue moon, bought one at BPS and wanted me to look it over. I was really impressed. I am not the biggest Lew's fan but this reel fixed a few minor things that I find annoying> knobs, drag star assembly, cast control knob, spool polish, etc.. One thing I didn't care for is the pull pin on side plate. Push and pull the wrong way and the side plate will bounce off. The breaks are also a little different than the other centrifugal brake systems. I am not sure how to feel about them just yet but it looks like they improved it from the previous generation and I really can't say yet what makes it different. All in all, I think this reel is the best one I have seen from Lew's yet and for $160, its a steal. Enjoy and I hope the Covid goes away soon. I have had several family members and coworkers deal with it and it is no fun.
  20. Cabela's and Bass Pro Shop. It's the 7'1'' model (MH Fast) you are looking for. Like above, not on sale but still not bad at $119.
  21. For spinning gear, I would go up to 10lb in FC and 8lb in mono but my favorite is 6lb FC.
  22. When I first started using baitcasters, I bought a right handed reel and just couldn't get the hang of it. Somebody handed me a left handed one and problems solved even though I'm right handed. I have been using left handed reels ever since. I can use both now but prefer lefties.
  23. Help me out here..... I thought Abu Garcia offshore manufacturing went to Omoto in Tawain. I knew that some of the parts made for Daiwa's lower end stuff (blister pack reels) were brought in from Doyo.... but what have they done for Shimano? I have heard from more than one rep and a designer/engineer from Shimano that there are no more ties to Lew's other than the technology that is shared by all low profile manufactures. Also, there was an issue with importing Shimano products to Brazil which included parts. I have seen reels from Doyo under the "Marine" name that are again exactly like Lew's. So for me the question remains, who designs Lew's reels. Doyo or someone from Lew's? Or is the Lew's name just a store front name like Browning and Field and Strem, etc.
  24. For crankbaits and chatterbaits the 6.X:1 would be my choice. If you need to bring a lure in quicker, just reel faster.
