  1. Good stuff. I don't mind the wind but my fishing buddy fishes so close to the bank that it can be difficult to get quality casts in. I prefer to fish into the wind if it's 10-15 mph. It's easier to deal with than getting blown around. Having good skill with a trolling motor is a plus. On the kayak though, high winds can be dangerous. Planning each fishing spot and each cast for the matter is a challenge. Landing fish and getting them to the kayak without getting smashed on rocks or somebody's dock is another problem.
  2. The Angler in Hudson, IN and ALF in Evansville, IN. Unfortunately, we really don't have a good one near Indianapolis any more. My favorite use to be Angler's World on the Indy's east side but it went out of business. They had all the best stuff and good prices. They would sometimes run sales on stuff that they probably weren't supposed to for their frequent customers. I sure do miss them.
  3. Exactly.... That's the thing that bugs me. I know you don't exactly need 15-20 set ups for one person at a time. 5 or 6 quality set ups will do it. Why the expensive boat, truck, and other misc stuff but cheap budget gear? If you can afford a lavish boat, why not get some decent gear and leave me be? Sorry for the rant but this has bugged me for years.
  4. I keep running into someone like this and I'm going to sound like a snob but..... These individuals keep coming over to my kayak or my buddy's boat and have something to say about me fishing with high end gear (especially if we beat them in a tournament), only to see they have a $70,000 boat, a $50,000 truck, $10,000 in electronics and about 15-20 budget friendly set ups scattered around their deck. Its at this point they usually declare themselves a budget fisherman and say I'm crazy for paying that much for rods and reels. I ablige them by telling them in great detail about how much I didn't pay for my gear and the story behind each one. I could care less what these guys fish with but I tend to kill them with kindness and compliments anyway. All I want to know is how their fishing day went. Also, I don't tell these guys I have other budget gear either. I sometimes like to see how deep they will go into this discussion.... So there is my bias against the "more money than I got" budget fisherman.
  5. No white rods. They are bad luck.
  6. Outstanding fish. That's the kind you spend your whole life hunting for.
  7. I haven’t heard of the frame material or design but here you go. Zaion frame.... after some further reading.
  8. To me it depends on how the kayak seat is and also how you are personally built. If you are a big guy sitting in a seat that is lower to the water, your options are limited as to how you can set the hook and get the fish in the boat. A higher positioned seat will allow you to lean into a hook set and you will have better control over the fish. As far as rods go, I personally like 7' and under fast rods, that are either a Med or MH with a soft tip. This covers 90% of my fishing from a kayak. If you can stand in kayak comfortably, I don't see why you couldn't use whatever.
  9. Anybody seen one of these? Own one? I am looking for a light spinning reel from Daiwa this time and this one caught my eye. I like the weight and the specs. I was considering going with a Certate LT or the Luvias LT. I will be putting this on a G. Loomis NRX+ 821S NRR and I wanted something made for finesse. I also looked at the Exist but it is a little out of my price range for this set up, even the JDM version if you can find one. Thanks for any advice.
  10. My two biggest fish were caught on 6lb test line and light spinning gear. I caught a 40lb blue catfish and a 10lb+ large mouth. Setting the drag and using it to bring the fish in was essential. I set the drag by hand. There are many ways to do this but I do it by feel. Once you get it set you know how to handle the fish and set the hook. Getting too excited and tightening down the drag is a good way to loose fish (depending on the line).
  11. I have used it and have no issues with FC but I like Sunline Defier the best for crankbaits. There is one instance that does come in handy with FC and crankbaits and that is cold water. I am not sure why but I always have a hard time getting a crankbait down to the depth I want in cold water conditions with mono. With FC, it seems to be better. It could all be in my head though..... I never use braid for crankbaits. It's too sensitive to me for this application. I want the fish to take the bait and then I want to set the hook. If you feel the bite too soon, no fish or.... you bring in some fish lips instead.
  12. I have 2 of the four, the Legend Glass M Mod. and the 873 CRR. Both of these rods are amazing. At the time I couldn't get a Mag Bass NRX+ so I ended up with the CCR. It's weird how it bridges the gap between the JWR and the MBR line. The Legend Glass though, is one of my favorite rods. It's like the perfect crankbait rod. Nice choices. Enjoy.
  13. I have a few guys that will, when they can, get me a good deal on them but this last one I got at the Indy Boat Sport and Travel show. I got if for $475. It's not a second, brand new with tags. At that price, I am sort of OK with it. At full price, it keeps getting harder to convince myself that I need it (or at least that's what I keep telling myself).
  14. Nice. I have yet to fish an NRX rod that wasn't a pleasure. On a side note, I just picked up the NRX+ NRR 821S. That makes 6 NRX's. It gets addictive.
  15. I have the 853c NRX and have no issues landing fish. If you are fishing 1/4 to 3/8 jigs with a trailer you should be fine. I fish mine with 1/2oz jigs and it seems to shine here. I also use it for 1/2 Dark Sleepers as well. If you want a softer tip with a fast taper, look at the MBR series. The 843c would be great. I also have the 873c mentioned above. It too is a great rod. A little heavier than the 853c but not much.
  16. Went to the Indy Boat Sport and Travel Show. The Bait Monkey came with me.
  17. I haven't fished my usual creeks in a long time but when I was teenager I was wading in about two feet of water, fishing for whatever would bite. I had swim trucks and flip flops on, my usual summer clothes. I was standing on what I thought was firm ground and the next thing I know, the bottom gives way in the water. I was sucked into an under water cavern. Luckily walking the path next to me was a group of college kids, one them was a lifeguard. He jumped in and pulled me out. Saved my life. Crazy but lucky once again.
  18. I feel ya. I have been sort of lucky...... I recently had all three of my accounts compromised but the banks caught all of them. I believe it was part of the Tackle Warehouse hack. I received a letter from them about 2 of the 3 accounts. One was ran at a terminal in a ghost town and the other was used at a Nascar drivers private charge machine (no joke). Each charge was pretty small. The thing that is creepy and incredible is how does the bank know it's not me.
  19. No kidding. I am working on some outside projects and had some wood delivered. I needed some true 1×6's, 2×4's, and 1×12's. They sat in the driveway for two days. People kept pulling into my driveway and looking at them but once they noticed I had them wrapped in heavy chains, they would take off.
  20. There's something going on. I have noticed at home and at work. Someone has once again figured out how to get past spam blockers. Our reported spam at work has gone up 7 to 8 times its usual amount which brings it to a threat level. It's crazy how people will try to steal a buck from you or even your identity like it's a legal, ok thing to do. Almost like it's a job.
  21. I will use up to 4 (5 if you count a bladed jig rod), three casting and one spinning. Each have a different reel, line and situational purpose but I can use most these setups for T-rigged soft plastic as well.
  22. I will second that. I love the bait but I lose one almost every time I use it. I do like that I can swim it as well as bounce of the bottom. I have great luck with the bright colors in stained water.
  23. I use braid for topwater, heavy cover, and on spinning gear with a leader for some finesse applications. But as general purpose line, I don't care for it. I look at as another tool to use for specific jobs.
  24. Lucky Craft Pointer in Ghost Minnow. I haven't used the ones I bought yet but the new Berkley Stunna looks like a winner as well.
