  1. Another thought on this that might be more cost effective.... To me nothing compares to the original Senko in the 5in but the Berkley General might come close. It comes in a 5.25 size. It's just slightly bigger overall than the regular 5in Senko. I am not sure how they compare in weight but on the fall General is slightly slower.... so for shallow water it's not bad.
  2. Either the Plano Edge Deep 3700 or the Flambeau Zerust 5012. I have the Flambeau and it's not bad but both of them will fill up quick. I have seen one guy at local lake use a Christmas bulb box with desiccants inside but the box was really big. It was great for a boat but not something you want to lug around.
  3. I use both the 6in and 5in on a regular bases. I like the 6in wacky rigged better than I do the 5in but I like 5in better for a regular Texas rig. As far as cutting the 6in down, I have trimmed mine at the head on multiple occasions after they have ripped and they have worked great. I use either a 4/0 or 5/0 EWG and when I throw the 6in, it's usually weightless.
  4. The BB1 comes in a 6.2:1. I would ignore the ratio and look at the IPT. Compare that to what you are trying to use the reel for and decide what is best.
  5. I have 3 of them and only caught a few fish with them so far. I have had better success with the Megabass Vision 110. Not sure why? Both actions on the baits are excellent, colors are great from both, hooks might actually be better on the Stunna and both suspend pretty well. Also, to me, the Stunna casts better but I have caught more on the 110.
  6. Wacky rigged senko, fat ika, jigs with a beaver trailer, a beaver or flat fish equivalent.
  7. Sunline X-Plasma has been my favorite so far. I have 16lb on a finesse reel but for a 4000 Sustain 18lb. 30lb would be closer to 12lb mono. Also, like mentioned above, I would get a 2500 or 3000 size if possible. A 4000 is getting into the saltwater/big game fishing realm. It would work but it's not exactly the right tool for the job.
  8. I use 16lb Sunline Xplasma with 10lb Seaguar Gold Label leader. I have it on a Shimano Vanquish and a G. Loomis NRX 803S. I throw weightless wacky Senkos and a the occasional light T-rig on it. I will admit I am not the biggest fan of braid but this combo has me rethinking it all.
  9. I have the 2019 model. Is the 2021 model smother? The one I have is smoother than any Daiwa I have owned or touched. It will cast a 1/16 oz shakyhead jig and roboworm a country mile. I have paired mine with an NRX 802C.
  10. I have the Curado DC and 3 reels with the MGL spool. For casting into the wind the DC wins out but under normal conditions I can get almost as much distance out of the MGLs as I can the DC, sometimes more.
  11. He gets open soars on his hands, arms and bald head. His family tries to get involved but he covers them up when he is around them. When tournament season starts I'm going to put him in touch with a guy that fishes in a different league that is missing his nose. Maybe seeing it first hand will help.
  12. I too kind of have had some issues in the past few years. My job can be stressful, my wife has an illness, I lost my brother, a niece, father-in-law, both my father and mother, and an old girlfriend of mine committed suicide. For me, fishing and exercise help. Talking to friends helps more. I have tried a few RXs but some made me feel worse and others made me feel nothing at all. Believe it or not, the biggest help has been testosterone shots. Not for everyone but I am not as stressed, I sleep better, and it helps mellow me out. They have worked better than any antidepressant med they have ever given me.
  13. I use a sun shirt, sunglasses, ball cap and sunscreen. I were shorts and flip flops in the summer. One of the guys I fish with does nothing and refuses to. He has black spots on his skin and refuses to see the dermatologist his doctor has recommended. He says they are for women with dry skin. I wish he would listen. I worry he is in for a rude awaking.
  14. Agreed. I love being on boat and fishing but being on a kayak fills my need for serenity. If I could, I would be on the water daily. I can't explain it but catching a fish on a kayak is unique and somehow more rewarding.
  15. I hate to say it but it might be time to go shopping for a new reel. It may not be worth sending out for repair unless it has some sentimental value. If something is truly bent, getting it back to its original shape is next to impossible.
  16. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Steez models. I have the CT and SV. Both are fantastic but which one is more practical..... To me it's the SV. The CT is smoother but it's almost a BFS reel. The SV will do just about anything. The A to me, when I toyed around with one, is also great but it felt odd in hand and felt like a general purpose reel, just not as refined as the SV. The one that intrigues me is the HD model. I think it's made for bigger baits and big cranks. I have not put my hands on a new Zillion yet.
  17. I have a Met on the 904C MBR NRX+ and it doesn't feel tip heavy at all. I always read about people saying the NRX 894C being tip heavy but I think it stems from guys buying the Aldebaran. Which is like putting a finnese real on a power rod, not the ideal set up. I think the Met will be fine on the 894C . It's a great jack of all trades reel.
  18. I tried it and didn't care for it. I like Elite and Siege oddly enough. Both have been good lines for me.
  19. I like the Owner Blockhead. The ones from Zman are kind of a joke. You would think they would catch on to this and make some improvements. Their baits though are not bad. They last a long time and can catch fish. My only complaint is that they stick to some hook keepers like glue and slip on others.
  20. Good stuff. I have been preaching a few of these things for years. For instance, one of the guys I was fishing a tournament with (his boat) in clear water kept tossing a jig into a large flat filled with spawning bass. I could see the fish clear as day. He would toss his jig to one of them and he would fish that jig exactly the same way as always > bounce, bounce, retrieve and pitch again. He did this for hours, no bites. I just sat in the back of the boat and watched his mind implode. I couldn't get him to try anything else or move for that matter. The guy that fished the edge of the bed won the tournament fishing a Zoom lizard by dragging it across the bottom drop off.
  21. I have had this issue with Sniper years ago. I bought several spools when Gander Mountain went out of business. The line didn't last long, had tons of memory, and seemed brittle and rough right out of the box. It drove me away from Sunline for awhile. I have used Sniper a few time since then and it has been great but I prefer Invizx over Sniper. I have had great luck with all of the other lines I have tried from them...... Sniper Invisible, Natural, Defier, Defier Armilo, Shooter and X-Plasma Braid.
  22. That might work for both. I haven't held it but it if it follows suit with other LTB rods, it would be a beast of rod. Like most of St. Croix rods, it's sweet spot is in the middle to the upper end of the rod rating so if you think 1/2 oz baits will cast well, the rod may not load the way you want it to at that weight.
  23. I love the Avid rods but I think the ones you are looking at are for Inshore fishing. They will probably work but will have a different level of sensitivity and power than the freshwater bass versions. If they around $100 to $150, that would be a good deal. The regular Avids for bass run around, on average, $200 but the inshore run closer to $300.
