  1. In Indiana we are required to were one when your in a kayak. We are also required to have a throwable pfd on board all water vessels. In a kayak, you should wear it at all times. I heard and read too many horror stories.
  2. I think I'm good. When I looked at their new stuff, I thought it was cool but too much for what it was. I do like the Edge boxes though. But if I need a new bag, the ones from BPS have done well for me. Makes me wonder how Fin Nor is? They use to make great salt water reels. One things for sure, Berkley doesn't seem to be slowing down.
  3. I have been a fan of Smith Sunglasses for quite some time. If you look at their website, they have the frame dimensions with the descriptions. Some frames made for men are also made for women. Only difference is the size of the frame. They also have a great guarantee and warranty as well.
  4. I am not sure of the year but this generation and the next were about the last good Pflueger reels I remember. They seemed to go down hill after that. I owned a couple of the President reels years ago and they just developed one issue after another. The one with the wood handle was, like the one below, a good reel and a great value. It seems Pure Fishing has done this to a few of their lines. I have noticed it with Fenwick, Penn, and Abu Garcia (a little bit). Something about them just isn't the same.
  5. I felt like the James Bond of fishing when I carried the briefcase around that had the rod and reel in it. It was cool but I liked the gold spin cast reel set up better as a kid. Not for sure why but I would bet that it casted further or it was easier for me to use.
  6. I had one as a kid. I caught a few fish with it but I believe it fell apart at some point. My favorites back then were the Daiwa Travel Set and the Mini-Cast Gold kit. Both were a lot of fun.
  7. Plat in Japan often has a lot of parts for JDM reels. Great service but difficult website to navigate. Depending on the reel, a lot of parts crossover to US parts. Downside to JDM is no warranty but I have seen both Shimano and Daiwa try to help where they can.
  8. I looked at them last year and saw a few on the water but I haven't been in one. The people I have talked to like them but not on small ponds or on open water. A trolling motor is a must and they do not track well just based on size alone. I would look at an Old Towne too if possible.
  9. 3 or 4 on and the tension knob is loose. I use my thumb to control the spool.
  10. Invizx would be my pick. But for the most stretch in FC, I would look at Trilene 100% FC and also Sunline Crank. Both are very stretchy.
  11. Not an expert at fishing spoons but I fish them when they are deep. I pop it off the bottom really hard, let it drop and repeat. It usually gets hit on the pop up rather than the fall.
  12. Dropshot, wacky senko, and roboworm on a shaky head.
  13. Spoons. I don't know a soul that uses them.
  14. I have the same rod in the Premier line and its a pool cue. It will cast most things well up to about 2oz total weight. For flipping and pitching, you should be fine with a 1.5 oz weight and the bait.
  15. 3 smaller lakes I fish in Indiana have gotten strict on boat safety over the years. One is limited to a 9.9 or under. Fines start at $2500. I have seen a series of tickets written to one guy for just shy of $5000. Another has gone to idle only or trolling motor. One other is going to counter clockwise near bank fishing only. You basically get in line and go around the lake at slow pace and try your best to avoid each other.
  16. Guilty too except I clipped my buddy's engine with a jointed Spro swimbait. Luckily the bait exploded into pieces and not the engine cover.
  17. I haven't rigged it awhile but I use to set mine up with a rubber core sinker, a round ticker, glass bead, then a swivel, followed by the lead and the bait.
  18. No chance on a bait like that. The action would never be the same. One option is to leave it as is and see what happens or add some lead tape.
  19. After using it for a few years, I decided I didn't care for it. The real cleaner is pretty good but the oil and grease were not the best. I like TSI 321 for bearings and Shimano Bantam oil for everything else. For grease I use either Cals or Shimano drag grease.
  20. We have a couple of wake boarding boats at both of lakes I fish and have seen this happen a few times. The wakes from those boats makes going over 20 to 25 mph almost impossible. The danger from larger boats impacts everyone. I've seen whole families flipped in their kayaks. We did talk to the lady driving one of the boats. She said her son was a professional and ranked in the top 5 in the nation and their boat with a twin turbo Ford Raptor engine was paid for by sponsors.
  21. Not exactly BFS but I have a Daiwa Steez CT. I use 8lb Sunline Sniper Invisible.
  22. I have one of the old Quantum KVD glass rods as well. I don't like it for chatterbaits. It's too soft and there is something about the handle that's just off for chatterbaits. This rod does work well for deep cranks though. As far as other rods go, I have tried several that are all over the place in cost, technique and design. I have used rods between a G. Loomis NRX 853 X-Fast down to the Quantum KVD Mod. glass and found the rod I like best so far is a G. Loomis IMX Crankbait rod (not the deep flex version). It is a composite that feels more like a Mod-Fast than a true Mod. With that said, the Fast and X-fast rods I have tried, that I might typically use for spinnerbaits, just didn't do it for me when it comes to chatterbaits. So my thought/opinion would be that a 7' to 7'4'' Mod-Fast M or MH would be ideal.
  23. G. Loomis 844C IMX. It's a heavy fast but it is a little softer at the tip.
  24. Probably material and maybe since it is a crankbait rod. It's pretty much a heavy noodle with a slow taper that can cast 1.25oz cranks.
